Most Affordable Business Law / Legal Environment / Immigration Law Textbooks?

Since 1993 I’ve published eight textbooks and new textbook editions with Irwin/McGraw Hill, Prentice Hall and Textbook Media Press. One of the major considerations for me then and now was to provide an alternative to the high price of textbooks that placed them out of reach for too many students. I also needed an alternative to textbooks that were simply too long, overly complicated and featured too many pedagogical devices (sidebars, case studies, key terms, definitions, and many other “learnin...

Earth Mother (Short story preview)

She awoke in the throes of a mind numbing panic. Her eardrums sympathetically vibrated with the subliminal hum of an unseen, unheard yet very palpable force just below the threshold of audible frequencies. Her heartbeat sloshed in her ears as though she were under water, desperately trying to escape a powerful predator.
The adrenaline in her veins and the irrational fear that paralyzed her made every joint in her body ache and yielded spasmodic pains as though her muscles were tightly coiling...

What Price to Live the Dream? (Short story preview)

WHAT PRICE TO LIVE THE DREAM?
(C) 1990, 2011 Victor D. Lopez

Ken was tired, despondent and none too sober. He’d learnt only a few hours before that the Phoenix Project of which he was the lead scientist was about to be scrapped, that funding would not be renewed by Congress for the current fiscal year to the intelligence agency for which he worked. He saw the last 15 years of his life, years in which he’d been entirely absorbed in working on this most carefully guarded project and which had bo...

Islands of Wonder

Islands of wonder
Like a broken string of pearls
Scattered in velvet

Glorious artwork
These worlds that are not our own
Sculpted by nature

Interstellar space,
Nebulas coalescing
That will form new stars

Stars die, are reborn,
The Phoenix rising always
From its own ashes

The cycle of life,
Played out on a macro scale,
To the end of time

Every one of us,
Individual artworks,
From those selfsame stars

No matter which pearl
Of our endless universe
Has given us life

We are all but one
In commun...

The Wise Speak Softly / Los Sabios Hablan en Voz Baja

The Wise Speak Softly

The wise speak softly,
Fools yell out their every thought,
That all may know them.

Los Sabios Hablan en Voz Baja

Los sabios hablan en voz baja,
Los tontos gritan cada pensamiento,
Para que todos puedan conocerlos.

Free Copyright Lecture

The link below is to a a 50-minute YouTube introductory lecture to copyright law that I created not for my law classes but rather as a general reference for the public at large. It should be of particular interest to authors, artists, musicians, photographers, bloggers, librarians and anyone who would like to know more about the creation and protection offered by copyright law to works of authorship. the lecture itself is loosely based on the introductory chapters from two of my general interest...

The Heart Sculpts Us

The heart sculpts us
From within
With neither chisel nor hammer
But with white-hot fire
That burns away
The weak facades
We build
Hoping for
Shelter from the
Storm

It melts away
Reason
Logic
Sense
Leaving behind ashes
From which a Phoenix
May yet rise again
Revealing the
True nature
Of our
souls

We are not what we
Seem
Nor are we what we
Say
Not even what we
Do
We are only what we
Feel
And how we
Love

In the darkness
And the cold
And the loneliness
That is our life
It is our only true source
Of
Light
Heat
Comfort
And our o...
