Book review posted!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on Caroline Louise Walker’s new book Man of the Year. Here’s the opening to my post:
A man suspects his wife of cheating on him and decides to put a stop to it. What begins as one small lie to get rid of his rival escalates into a tower of falsehoods that threatens to destroy everything in. Author Caroline Louise Walker strings readers along with a plot that feels a little excessive but saves her story with a twist in her brand new book Man of the Year.

More words in the bank :D
Hello, Write Edge readers! Yes, I’m up late working on stuff for the blog because I put more words in the bank for my novel today. I’m past 72,000 words and counting! It’s only a first draft, but I’m having so much fun that it’s a challenge staying away from my computer during the day. I think, when we’re pursuing a life passion in this way, it sort of envelops us. I think that’s the way it’s supposed to be, in fact, as this week’s motivational quote reminds us:
“I think all writing is a disease. You can’t stop it.” — William Carlos Williams, American poet and physician
Because I spent the bulk of my day on the novel, I’ve only just gotten to this week’s short story. Here’s a quick excerpt:
Once again the picture reached him before the sounds did. He threw the curtain back to a blue sky, brilliant in its color, and two lazy clouds eking their way across it. The sun shone with bravado. He saw his father from his second-story window in the yard pulling a branch across the grass, but no other sign of the storm appeared.

In the middle of the week, I’ll share a new book review with you. This one is for a book releasing next week. The novel is titled Man of the Year and is by Caroline Louise Walker. Come back in the middle of the week to The Write Edge Bookshelf find out what I thought about it!
And this Friday you get a bonus set of Instagram pics. Be sure to check out the ones I’ve already posted by using my handle @EktaRGarg or going to my author page on Facebook.
Have a fantastic week, readers!

Book review up!
Good evening, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly. It serves as a prequel to her debut novel, Lilac Girls. Here’s the opening to my review:
Three women tied by their circumstances face personal challenges and the horrors of war. As each one fights her battle, their trials and goals bring them together and drive them apart. Author Martha Hall Kelly gives readers a prequel to her smash hit debut novel in the well-intentioned book Lost Roses.

Words in the bank
Hello, Write Edge readers! For those of you in and around my time zone, a very good, late, evening to you all! I’ve put in my hours today on my novel and have words in the bank — 5100-plus — and it feels great! I feel energized that I contributed so much to my first draft today. I’ve set myself an incredibly ambitious deadline, and I have no way of knowing whether I’ll meet it. Still, I have to try. High goals encourage us to reach higher and eventually accomplish our dreams.
Part of accomplishing a dream is to remain true to it. I don’t mean this in a generic, “follow-your-heart” sort of way that makes a great meme on Facebook. More in the “be-honest-to-what-you’re-trying-to-do” sort of way. When we are — honest, that is — that honesty will touch someone’s heart, always. That’s what this week’s motivational quote is all about :
“If the book is true, it will find an audience that is meant to read it.” — Wally Lamb
It’s the last Monday of the month, which means featuring other writers! I usually don’t read poetry, and I haven’t written much of it ever, but I found a couple of poems to share this month. Find them and two short stories, including an award winner, in this week’s writers showcase on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
On Wednesday I’ll bring you a new book review. Martha Hall Kelly, author of the incredible Lilac Girls, has a new book out. Lost Roses takes readers back to World War I and brings to its pages some of the characters from her previous book as well as several new ones. I’ll share my thoughts on the book this Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
At the end of the week, I’ll bring you new Instagram pics! If you haven’t checked out my previous ones, find me via my handle @EktaRGarg. If you’re not on Instagram, visit my Facebook author page to see my latest pictures every other Friday.
Have a fantastic week, readers!

Parenting adventures posted!
Good evening, Write Edge readers! It’s finally summer vacation — yay! We kick things off with my latest adventures in parenting. Here’s an excerpt:
“N., I love watching you sleep at night,” Twelve said in a sickly sweet voice. “I just come right up to your bedroom window.”
We all laughed, open-hearted and open-mouthed, with me doubling over the steering wheel as we waited at a stoplight.

New book review!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood. Here’s the opening of my post:
After his son’s unexpected death, a man decides to complete the boy’s community service work. He meets someone special in his son’s life and learns to love him all over again, even though it’s too late to tell him so. Author Monica Wood reels readers in with exquisite descriptions but lets the plot flounder in her novel The One-in-a-Million Boy.

Summer’s almost here!
Hello, Write Edge readers! We’re almost to summer — can you believe it? The weather here in Central Illinois tried to cheat today and go back to the 60s, but we’ve got warmer temperatures barreling back into town. And school’s almost out, which means a slower schedule.
Not around here, though! As always, I’m reviewing, editing, writing, beta reading, and (the newest addition to my resume) judging stories for various writing contests. My days are flipping by fast and furious, and I’m enjoying every minute. Everything I do contributes to storytelling, my life’s passion. Speaking of which, here is this week’s motivational quote. As always, you can apply it to whatever dream you’re chasing. The point is to let out that creativity:
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” ― Maya Angelou
I couldn’t post my short story last week, so I’m bringing it to you tonight. I took a shot at some micro fiction (100 words or less,) which means I won’t post an excerpt, but you can find the story now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
In the middle of the week, I’ll share a new book review with you. This Wednesday you’ll find out what I thought of The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood. Check out the review on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
At the end of the week, I’ll go back to my parenting adventures. I’ll be posting some brand new Growth Spurts. See them this Friday on Growth Chart!
Have a fantastic day and week, readers!
