Hello, Write Edge readers! First, for those of you who missed it yesterday, check out the gorgeous cover of my upcoming debut novella, The Truth About Elves now on my author website!
Now, for this week’s book review. I’m sharing my thoughts on My Sweet Girl by debut author Amanda Jayatissa. Here’s the opening to my post:
A young woman finds her roommate murdered. Plagued by memories of her troubled childhood, she tries to figure out what happened to her roommate while also fighting her personal demons. Author Amanda Jayatissa puts in place several thriller elements but ultimately disappoints in her debut novel My Sweet Girl.

Cover reveal tomorrow!!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’m thrilled about the cover reveal tomorrow for The Truth About Elves. You’ll get to see the gorgeous front of my book, the one that made my mother cry happy tears. Less than 24 hours to go!
Also, if you’re a writer or know a writer who would like to attend a free workshop, I’m presenting one this week through the library on the topic of theme and how to go about choosing one and working on one. You can sign up for that here.
In the meantime, we’re moving ahead with our regular content here on The Write Edge. First up, this week’s short fiction. I found the prompt this morning and let my brain noodle over it all day. As I worked on this story, my heart lifted — I could feel that magic of storytelling flow through my fingers as I typed. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. Here’s an excerpt:
Keira blinked; then she blinked again. And again. And again. Suddenly, she couldn’t see and blinked even harder. That’s when she realized tears clouded her eyes, and she kept blinking.
Again.

Tomorrow, as I said, I’ll reveal the cover to my first ever book-length work. It releases from Atmosphere Press in a little more than a month, but you’ll be able to pre-order it well before then. Come back tomorrow to see it and get details on pre-orders!
On Wednesday, I’ll share my latest book review. This week I’ll let you know what I thought of My Sweet Girl by Amanda Jayatissa. Keep an eye out for the post in the middle of the week on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
Then on Thursday we go back to the Bookshelf for my newest installment of Thursday R.E.A.D.s. This week I share my thoughts on The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris as an Author myself.
Lastly, on Friday, Instagram posts! I’ll share what’s going on in my corner of the writing world as well as my non-writing/editing life. Check out older posts with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or take a peek at the thumbnails here on the home page of The Write Edge.

Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! First, an exciting announcement: next Tuesday is the cover reveal for my upcoming debut, The Truth About Elves! Keep an eye out for it, but be prepared: you might fall in love with the cover faster than I did!
Now, on to this week’s review. I’m so proud of my writing friend Jaime Dill and her partner, Lizzie Thornton, co-founders of Cardigan Press for their debut anthology that released last week! Today you’ll find my official review. Here’s the opening to that post:
A writer’s bio stating his ability to time travel “as shown by his out-of-date headshot.” A poem dedicated to all the poems left unwritten. A conversation between a protagonist and an author after the collapse of a publisher. These and more pieces make up the robust debut collection from Cardigan Press called Byline Legacies.

Happy Labor Day!
Hello, Write Edge readers! Contrary to its name, I hope those of you who live in the U.S. are enjoying this long weekend and getting to do something relaxing. I’ve done a bit of it all — relaxing; working; reading; socializing (with our one bubble family); and planning for my upcoming book release.
To that end, yes, The Truth About Elves releases October 19 from Atmosphere Press everywhere books are sold! Pre-orders open September 21, and next week I’ll do a cover reveal of the incredible cover that designer Kevin Stone created and hand-lettered just for my story. I can’t wait!
In the meantime, lots of fun content here on the blog to keep you entertained. First up, this week’s short story, and you get a bonus. I wrote some micro fiction, which you know means it’s too short to preview here, but I wrote two pieces. That’s right, today you get two pieces for the reading experience of one! Check them both out now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
On Wednesday you’ll get my review of Byline Legacies, the debut anthology from the new Cardigan Press. A writing friend of mine, the lovely Jaime Dill, and her partner have teamed up to bring you this group of pieces — fiction, nonfiction, and poetry — to encapsulate the writing experience. Find out what I thought about it on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
This Thursday I’m continuing my R.E.A.D.s analysis of The Other Black Girl. I’m diving deeper this week on what I thought of the book as an editor and how I might have handled the manuscript differently. Find out more on Thursday, also on The Write Edge Bookshelf.
Then Friday it’s back to Instagram and more fun pictures of what I’m up to writing-wise and not. Use my handle, @EktaRGarg, to see previous posts, and come say hello.

New book review up!
Good morning, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on the brand new release Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche by Nancy Springer. Here’s the opening to my review:
A teenager follows in her famous big brother’s footsteps and turns sleuth when a woman goes missing. Undaunted by society’s expectations of her gender or her age, the teen uses her wits and her resources to work on the case. Author Nancy Springer continues the wonderful adventures of her spunky, refreshing young heroine in her newest book Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche.
