I think maybe Twoflower and Rincewind in Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. They are such opposites, with Twoflower being endearingly naive and seeing the good in everyone whereas Rincewind is so wonderfully cynical. And yet they get on, and through all their adventures come to a mutual respect and, dare I say it, affection!(less)

If so, the US publishers decided to make Josh a year older than he was in the original UK version. The sequels were only published in the UK so follow the first UK book - if that makes sense! Thanks for the feedback, so nice to know books are being enjoyed :-) Best Jackie(less)

OK, so here we are at that lovely time of year when the weather suddenly gets really sunny and hot and everyone not aged 16 – 21 is out and about having fun, i.e. exam time :-(

I have my first exam tomorrow and I have done 0 hours revision. At least that’s what I’m telling everyone. I can’t tell them the truth, that I’ve made so many notes my mum had to forcibly prise my pen from my hideously de...

"This book was an okay read - but then again I can't judge too harshly because I'm not a teenage boy. I suspect that there's plenty that teens with angst could relate to in this novel, especially if they keep a journal. At times I wasn't really sur..." Read more of this review »

Absolutely beautiful. Made me smile and brought tears to my eyes. Having a mother-in-law with Alzheimers I can relate to the main character and say that, for me, the subject was handled with great skill and authenticity. Fantastic job Emma

“Life in this world,” he said, “is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say, humbly, ‘Go on, do Deformed Rabbit . . . it’s my favorite.’ ”
