Parables of Success: Persistence

Path to SuccessRecently, I was asked "What is the one most important thing that makes a person successful?”

This got me thinking, and I asked many people around me, including high-level corporate executives, politicians, bankers, accountants, teachers, lawyers and even trainees who just started their careers. In this and the following posts, I will bring out my points of vi...

Pytho's Lesson

Be the best at whatever you do!
Pytho was an inspiring teacher. "Be the best at whatever you do!" he told his students. His students followed his advice, and many became  well-known in their respective fields. Pytho felt proud when his students mentioned him as a contributor to their success.

Every day, Pytho received many notes of appreciation. One day, he received a summon from the court instead.

Surprised, Pytho hurried to the court, and appeared before the judge.

"Your student Dimbi is b...

The Lion and The Rat

One day, a small rat, while roaming through the jungle, came across a lion.
When he saw the lion, he got scared. The rat had heard terrifying stories about the lion. He immediately hid behind a rock.

The lion saw the rat, but didn’t  move. The rat gathered courage, and  moved  closer to the lion. Still, the lion didn’t  move. Coming closer, the rat slowly bit the lion with his tiny teeth.

Lion opened his eyes, stared at the rat, and then closed his eyes again.

The rat was now...

The waited and waited. The storm lasted for three days.

How Did the Elephant Die?

There was a garden. It was full of beautiful flowers and beautiful birds.

One day, a king was passing by. Seeing the rare birds, he told his men to lay a trap. His servants laid the trap. Next day, they found no bird — but the king's elephant dead in the trap.

The king was surprised. He asked his men to find out how his favorite elephant got caught in the trap laid for the birds.

Sojuk & Brima

Shonmehta
In a monastery, there were many student monks. Sojuk was the most pious of them all. Every day, he would get up early, and meditate. Whenever he saw or heard someone in trouble, he prayed for them. Everybody respected him for his compassion. All the students joined Sojuk in his prayers, except one -- Brima. Many times, students asked Brima to join in the prayers for troubled people, but he would refuse and go away.
One year, the head monk decided to declare the name of the "most compassionate...

In those times, there lived a girl. She was a little different. She always had  lots of questions in her mind.
When she was little, her mother wanted her to learn cooking.

The girl asked her mother, “Why should I learn to cook?”

Mother said, “So that you...

Two Stones

Koboa was a very smart young man. So when his village wanted to send somebody to visit the famous school in the capital and learn about new ways of life, they picked him.
Today, the whole tribe was gathered on the river bank to see off Koboa. Though many from the capital had visited his tribal village in the past, Koboa was the first one from his tiny village to visit the capital town. His father, Gilot, looked at Koboa. Ti Li’s Help

Ti Li was proud of his helpful nature. He helped people, whenever he felt they needed any. It didn't matter for Ti Li, if they asked for the help or not. As Ti Li was a wealthy man, he could afford doing so.

One day, while travelling through the village, Ti Li saw a curious sight.

A man was swimming across a water stream, to get to the small island with fruit trees. The man reached the island and collected the fruits from one of the trees in a bag. Then, he swam back with the bag. Ti Li watched...
