Mirenda #1
The Kickstarter for the first issue of my comic Mirenda has launched!
If you’re interested in buying the comic or original artwork, this is the place to do it.
This looks cool. Check it out:
I second the motion.
Show Grim some love! Mirenda is a beautiful comic!

I talked to Robin “Inkstuds” McConnell, Brandon “Multiple Warheads” Graham, and Chris “TCAF” Butcher about going to conventions and stuff for like two hours. We recorded this a few weeks back but it’s impeccably timed since SDCC just went by.
I don’t remember what I said exactly but probably something about how talking to shows makes me believe in comics, how bad I wanna go to TCAF, avoiding social climbers, doing panels and stuff, the pointlessness of pitching me, and my weird perspective on con experiences, being a guy who generally prefers to play the background but is pretty good at working a room of five hunnid people after all. Probably some ol’ diversity junk too. One Piece being dope. You know how I do.
Give me and Butcher the keys to the industry and a few get out of jail cards and we’ll fix comics forever.
And that’s all well and good, but you should probably listen just for the fact that I got Robin to use the Fist of the North Star theme song as intro music because I believe in biting the hand that feeds. The only difference between a friend and an enemy is time, sucker, so get your licks in while you can

How long does it take to color an issue? I feel like a colorist's job is usually downplayed (ie. last in credits) and seems like it would be time consuming. True or no?
I think it depends for each colorist, (maybe a week?) but yeah it’s a huge part of how a comic reads. I color all my own drawing for that reason. Plus the way I color is so flat & fast.
I’ve worked with Joseph B3 a lot of Prophet. I’m so impressed by how much thought he puts into the color as part of the storytelling. Often times I’ll do my rough layouts in color and then we’ll talk over story/color ideas he has and rework it from there.
I always think about the 2nd Farel issue where Joseph came up with the idea to take the color out of the pages when Prophet’s mind is dulled by brain control.
Everything that ends up on the page is vital to how it reads. Letterers get even more downplayed – although a lot of what they do might be classified as more craft than art.–but I guess that also depends on each book.

Here are some production shots of the wonky way I draw stuff. Yeah that is two A3 sheets taped together. Also I only used pencils I don’t use ink.
mind you since then I have moved onto using a Cintiq for drawing.
Also don’t forget to check out the kickstarter we are almost there!

This is a study of Delacroix’s “The Combat of the Giaour and Hassan”. I’m sure I could have done it much better justice (so I’m telling myself) if I hadn’t been all exhausted and burnt out, but alas, that is not how deadlines work!
But now I can take at least a whole week off. I’m going to slaughter so many fictional dragons, and all my drinks are going to have so many fictional tiny umbrellas, you don’t even know.
MTCEEEEEEeeeee!!
