Not-Sasquan
Jim C. Hines just posted his WorldCon 2015 schedule; it looks a lot like mine. It turns out his schedule looks a lot like a lot of people’s. My off-hand joke, “Hey, who wants to do a reading from not-Sasquan?” is getting traction in the comments section, which is no joke.
Thus, to make it official, let me propose that those of us not going to Sasquan this year hold the first ever not-Sasquan online convention. Those of you at the actual convention are invited, but we understand if you’re too...

“Volcanic Area” – AKIRAwrong
Almost like walking in Yellowstone, but with the added benefit that something scary and unknown is likely lurking behind those steam vents. Safety off, weapon up — you’re being hunted.

Sent Him Off to School
Bitter-sweet morning here at my house. My eldest son, with whom I am proud of beyond words, loaded his things into his rig and headed off to college this morning. This makes me feel at once a little older and perhaps happier. So much potential wrapped into such a smart package.
I say this to all parents, but especially to those parents that are new to this game: Cherish all the moments you get with your kids because they will leave home well before you’re ready to see them go. Justin, you ar...

“Pinching the Bubble” – Steve Montalto
Considering what I’ve been writing about of late, this one has some special significance to me. The short story “Ser Pan Comido,” which is in copy edit with the publisher, is largely about possibility shifting across space-time with the use of the Shadow Drive and the pilots who accomplish this feat while ensconced within a timeless volume known as Pinch Space.
During my pre-writing warm up I’ve been spending a lot of time browsing DivArtlately. Sometime...

Strange Light on the Sound
We’ve had one thunderhead move over ourlittle bit of paradise today. It sprinkled some rain, sent a few bolts into trees, then dumped a whole lot more rain, and then it really made up its mind to pressure wash the house. But all day long this smoke has been hanging around casting the sunshine that’s making it through in this red-ish-blue-brown ennui. It’s like living under a perpetual eclipse.

Can’t Stop Listening to This
It’s no secretWalk Off The Earthis one of my favorite new bands. These guys are probably the most musical family I’ve ever seen and they rock their covers as well as kicking out a steady stream of new tunes.
Today “Can’t Feel My Face” features Toronto’s very ownScott Helmanand I’m digging this groove baby all while pumping out the words.
What are you listening to? Link a youtube video to the tunes that carry you through the workday.

Why I’m Not Likely to go to WorldCon
We’re a couple of weeks out still, but my mind is pretty much made up. Sasquan/WorldCon 2015is likely off the list for me. The reasons are complicated and I’m going to use this blog post to explore them in a little more detail.
First, while I own a ticket for the whole long-weekend I have no obligations to show up. I’m not on any panels. I’m unlikely to see something I’ve never seen before. And while I’d really love to spend time with my friends and acquaintancesfrom the SFF community there...
