NaNo Buddies
Well wow! The first week of November is coming to a close. I haven’t grown a mustache or a beard, but I have completed 10k words for NaNoWriMo. In case you don’t know what that means, it’s an annual program where writers pull their hair out over the course of a month trying to complete a novel. National Novel Writing Month, although it is clearly International and the 50k words necessary to win tends to be my average per month rate of writing.
Honestly, as November got closer, I wasn’t compl...

That Feeling

You don’t get to see the cover … yet!
This morning I got to see proofs of the cover art for the Galaxy Chroniclesand it looks pretty darn good. Even better, it feels pretty darn amazing to see your name on a collection like this.
I’m proud of my contribution to this anthology. I done wrote good words. It’s a good story, in good company. Pre-orders will be available soon.

Getting Shit Together
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
Something like an enormous weight coupled with an inescapable cabin fever has consumed me. Lately, I find myself spent before I even get to the start line. At the end of every day, I’m left feeling exhausted, behind, yet unable to sleep for fear that the wave of responsibility and incomplete chores might decide to crash down on me at any moment.
Some of this I know is that I have a four-year-old (nearly five) in my charge.Whether it’s the constant and...

Grey Knight by hammk
This is a perfectly random find from DivArt, just popped up in my undiscovered feed this morning. It moves me in several ways. First, I love how he’s used square brush strokes to compose the smoke and fire. From a distance, it fools my eye into imagining it’s almost on fire, even though it’s static.
Next, the hammkhas re-imagined an old idea. I dig the power armored paladin marching into the field with his vibrating polearm at the ready. It’s something that seems to draw...

Team Ukzn – Hulamin on day three
A wild guess, if you’re a sports fan you’re likely bubbling enthusiastic about your favorite football team’s most recent exploits. I know, it’s that time of year, and pretty much anyone you might meet has a favorite team and color they’re rooting for. Go Bears! Go Broncos! Go, go, go!
Well, not me. It’s October of an odd-numbered year, which means one thing to me. The World Solar Challenge is keeping me up late at night so I can catch the latests news from Dow...

I suspect that very few, if any, of you need this. I do. Sometimes we all need a little Ookla the Mok to growl us to sleep.

Walk to School: New Wattpad short

Zeo Ranger 3: Blue by DavidFernandezArt
I just published a new piece of short fiction to my Wattpad collection Dispatches from the Future (B-list). It’s free and early indications are that you’ll likely enjoy it.
I am the eldest member of three brothers, consequently much of my childhood memory is gendered male. Added to this, both of my children are also boys. The vicarious nature of being a parent, for me at least, has been colored with boy Crayola. Walk to Schoolis a brief examination of a...
Unexplained Cravings

비빔밥 (bibimbop) fuck yeah!
I’m sitting the coffee shop, trying to write, and suddenly — inexplicably— I am overcome with a desire for bibimbop (비빔밥). Maybe with a small bottle of soju and some tea, but really this overpowering desire is all about that bowl of rice and stuff from Korea.
It’s random stuff like this which leads me to believe that I don’t brain the right way. I’m trying, like hell, to focus and write some more steampunk. This story is set in aplace not unlike India and so you’d th...
