Happy New Year 2024!
Someone mentioned in passing the other day that 2030 is now just six years away, and that can't be right at all because the year 2000 was just yesterday! LOL (Obviously, I'm an old.) But seriously, time is really weird and I can't believe we're nearly a quarter of the way into the first century of the 2000. I might catch up to all that by the time we hit the 2050s. *grin*
But in the meantime, I've been writing a lot of stories, and I have some fun stuff coming up this year which I'm really excited about!
For January, I have a brand new Joan of Kerry story out today! And at the end of the month, I have one of the stories from the last HAUNTS AND HOWLS collection (Haunts and Howls and Jesters Bells) releasing as a standalone eBook.
Then next month, I'm starting an all new series, novella length stories released every other month (for this year) in a whole new urban fantasy world, heavy on the romance side of things.
But more about the new series later. Here's the details for the new releases this month:

NEWS AND UPDATES
So 2024 is going to be another big year for me, and I'm really excited about it all, even the things that I'm frankly terrified of doing.
I'm starting a new paranormal romance/urban fantasy series called THE DRAGON THIEF series. I talked a little about this last month as well. The first book will be out in February and I'll be doing a cover reveal for Book 1 and 2 on my newsletter this month! I'll roll out those covers to the general public at the end of January. These novellas will come out every other month in eBook for all of 2024. For my print readers, I'm looking into the feasibility of putting them into standalone print editions, but at the very least, I'll collect the whole first year into an omnibus print edition at the end of the year (look out for that in December).
Lots more on that series next month!
I'm also going to be running my very first Kickstarter to launch the brand new Cary Redmond novel that is out this year. The Kickstarter will allow readers to get the novel a whole two months before it's released wide and a month before it's available in my store! More on that next month as I get things set up.
Look out for Cary's Book 8 Cover Reveal later in February (or on my newsletter by mid-February), too. My cover artist gave me a really fantastic cover for this one!
The fourth novel in the Angie Jordan DEMON WITCH series is still on the schedule for September 2024. And I have three of the stories already written for the next HAUNTS AND HOWLS collection , coming in October 2024. I'll also have a couple of more short story collections in the mystery genre, and a new contemporary romance release this summer.
So LOTS of good stories coming out, in a variety of genres, to suit your mood and reading preferences.
2024 will also be the year of expanding and prioritizing my store, KatSimonsBooks . There will be more paperbacks added (hopefully all of them), and I'll be starting to add products to the store very soon, with those rolling out over the year. As with the newest Cary Redmond novel, I'm also going to start releasing some of the bigger books early from the story. And 2025 might see everything released in the store first and then wide (if I can get that organized!). So watch for that if you're the impatient type.
I'd like to start moving the Isabo Kelly books over to the store, too. They're a lower priority move for me, but I'm hopefully I can have them there by the end of the year.
So that's the overview of what 2024 will bring. It's a lot. So long as things don't get turned upside down, it should be a fun year with some new ventures. That said, of course, keep watching this space every month for updates on all of this (especially if life intervenes and my plans have to change).
Or, if you want the news delivered directly to your inbox, consider joining my free author newsletter . It comes out monthly, I occasionally give away free reads, or coupons to the store, as well as include excerpts, cover reveals, and other fun stuff, depending on what's going on. I do write long newsletters most of the time, but I include links at the top so you can jump to what you're interested in if you have limited time to read.
As we roll into this brand new year, I hope it brings you good health, peace, kindness, and lots of good reading!
Happy New Year!~Kat
December 12, 2023
Happy End of 2023!
Happy December! I hope the season is treating you well and that if you celebrate any of the various holidays this month, those have been joyous and festive.
I have two things out this month, and then a little news and update below about what to expect for next year.
First, this month, I have the digital box set for the first three novels in the Seven Families series. WOLF IN STONE gets you all three eBooks in this spooky paranormal romance trilogy for the price of two! All in one file. This is an eBook box set only. As soon as someone enables me to put together a physical books box set, I will jump into that. (Wouldn't that be fun!?)
The second release is one of the short stories from HAUNTS AND HOWLS WHERE DEMONS DWELL. Burning Inside a Stone Circle slides right into this month as it takes place on Winter Solstice! (Okay winter solstice up here in the Northern Hemisphere, but you get the idea.)
This is the last story from the collection to get its individual eBook release. So if you're interested in some of the stories, but don't want to buy the entire collection, they are all available as standalones in eBook now. For my print readers, the full collection is still the best way to go.

News and Updates
As December brings the year to its end, I'm setting up my schedule for next year. And I'll have two new things happening in 2024 that should be exciting--and terrifyingly scary for me in one case!
First, I have a novella paranormal romance series releasing over the course of next year that should be very fun. Unlike most of my paranormal romance and urban fantasy stories, this one takes place in a completely different story "universe" It's set in New York City, mostly, but the world in this story is aware of the more magical side of things. So this isn't something that could cross over into the Cary Redmond or Tiger Shifters world, for example.
I do like good crossovers, but this one came to me as a standalone originally, and I like it that way.
The series is called the DRAGON THIEF series, featuring a magical thief and a dragon shifter prince. And boy are they fun together! The first novella will release in February 2024. For regular readers, this story is actually already published in WHO STEALS A DRAGON. The standalone version may have a few tweaks to it to accommodate the expanded world building I'm doing for the series, though.
My vision for this series is to make it a bit like a TV series. Shorter books, released frequently (every other month in 2024 as a start), and an ongoing story arc, though each individual story will be a complete story itself. No cliffhangers! The romance will be slow burn over the course of several books, so be prepared for that. But the chemistry between these two is pretty hot, so I think the burn will be worth it. (Burn. Dragon shifters. Ha! Unintentional pun, but I'm amused by it.)
If you'd like more about the series, I'm giving all my newsletter subscribers a sneak peak at a short story in the series that won't be released until closer to the end of 2024. This was written as a standalone, and by the time it's published will probably have some tweaks for worldbuilding purposes as well, but it can be read on its own now, without even having read the first story from WHO STEALS A DRAGON.
Any new subscribers between now and the end of the year will get the story. If you subscribe in January, I'm afraid you'll have to wait until the end of this year for this one. BUT don't worry, I'll have other fun stuff for you. (And also, already, I have two exclusive stories for new subscribers that you get when joining the newsletter, so there's that. *grin*)
~~
The next big thing for next year, the thing that terrifies me, is I'll be running my first Kickstarter!
I'm still in the planning stages, but I'm looking to run this during March 2024, and it will be for the newest Cary Redmond novel, book 8 in the series! Kickstarter backers will get the book two months before it releases wide, and a month before it releases in my store. So if you've been jonesing (ha! another pun--Deacon Jones, get it? I may be watching too much Black Adder these days.) for more Cary and Deacon, this will be something to look out for.
Book 8 is a super fun novel, too, that takes Cary and Deacon to Scotland on a very interesting adventure where we get to see a little more of Deacon's family history. And we meet his grandmother! Oh boy is that interesting. *grin*
There will be much more about this in January, including a link to the campaign prepage where readers can sign up for notification when the project launches, but it's one of the big scary things I'm trying in the new year, and I wanted to give readers a heads up.
~~
The rest of 2024 will also bring a bunch of fun reads, including a new Joan of Kerry novella in January, so please drop by next month for more news.
Until then, I hope 2023 treated you kindly, and if it didn't, I hope 2024 is gentler with you. If you had a great year, I hope next year is even better. And for all of us, I hope 2024 brings good things.

November Coziness
Technically, my release this month isn't a "cozy mystery" because it's set in New York City, which is not small town enough to be a small town. *grin* But I feel like the Percy James Mysteries have a bit of a cozy vibe to them. And they are definitely a love letter to New York City.
This month, the latest Percy James adventure at the Azur Regent sees our intrepid heroine working in the days leading up to New Years Eve when some mysterious shenanigans ensue at the hotel. Diamonds Do Damage is out now in eBook everywhere. Don't miss it!

NEWS

I'm working my way through uploading my catalogue, and I need to work out some details, but within the next month you will start to see the first trade paperbacks appearing in the store.
At the moment, I've just managed to get the regular trade sized books uploaded. It will take a little more time to get all the large print editions up, but they're in the schedule now. So very soon all the paperbacks will be available through the store, too.
Now, that said, it looks so far like the books can only be delivered in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe. Those are some details I'm still working out. Fingers crossed they will be available in more places in the near future (especially for my Australian and New Zealand readers! I am thinking about you with all this.) I'll keep the information at the store updated and posts updates here as I have more information.
Pickles is also hiding on the site again this month with a present for anyone who finds her. *grin*

Finally, I just wanted to remind you all about the Holiday Spectacular, which officially starts in a little over a week. This is a super cool calendar of winter holiday stories. You'll receive one a day from US Thanksgiving through New Years day. It's so much fun, I really hope you'll consider subscribing. The various authors that Kris Rusch (the editor of the Spectacular) gets into the collection every year are so good. (I'm incredibly flattered to have a story in this this year's Spectacular because of how awesome the other authors are!)
Even if you missed the Kickstarter (or aren't big into doing Kickstarters), you can still subscribe to the calendar at WMG Publishing . There's also a fantastic and adorable Holiday Spectacular Store with all the gorgeous holiday merchandise as well as ways to subscribe to the current calendar or pick up any of the past calendars in their various collections.
Until next month, Happy Reading!
October 24, 2023
October October and it's almost Halloween!
Yes, I'm full of excitement this month. It's finally started to cool off here in New York, which means I'm into cozy season--sweaters and hoodies and snuggling under blankets. Perfect crisp days that haven't gotten too cold yet, and weather that only mildly irritates my allergies. *grin* Also, there was a Friday the 13th this month that coincided with a new moon and the next day there was a solar eclipse.
That's some brilliant Octobering right there.
Since it is October and one of my favorite times of year, I ended up with three different releases this month! Also, there's a reminder on the Kickstarter I mentioned in that last post below the release info. And, in case you were looking, I have most of the print links now for STORM SHADOW WITCH. They're below too.
Two of the releases this month are the standalone eBook releases for stories from last year's Haunts and Howls Collection--the two spookiest stories in the collection (in my opinion). Friday's Curious Shop is out now. And The Museum of Small Art's Everyman will be out on Halloween!! I've got a story out on Halloween! I don't know why, I find that very exciting. LOL.
The new book for this month, out today, is another Haunts and Howls collection! HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND JESTERS BELLS. This one is a little different because some of the stories are funny (or at least humorous. In my opinion. Which, you know, might not be funny to a reader at all. But my mom liked them.)
Not all of the stories are funny, though, because jesters are like clowns and clowns are scary (I discuss this more in the introduction to the collection). So some of the stories are spooky. Case in point, there's another Friday's Curious Shop story in this collection, which is pretty spooky.
And for readers who've been enjoying the Haunts and Howls collections, there's also a sequel to Destiny Through the Cats Eyes, from HAUNTS AND HOWLS AND GUARDIAN SPELLS, in this collection.
Lots of fun reading for Halloween.

KICKSTARTERThis is reposted from last week:
So, every year, a writer I love, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, edits this very cool thing called the HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR with her publishing company, WMG Publishing. It's basically an advent calendar of short stories! It runs from US Thanksgiving until New Years day, and every day, subscribers to the calendar get a new short story in their email.
There are usually three themes each year with three different moods. Kris does an introduction to each story in her email, which helps readers know what the mood of the story is, so if you're not in the mood for something hardboiled, for example, you can always save that day's story for a better mood. Ditto something sweet and romantic. The stories encompass a lot of winter holidays, and since some of the writers that Kris includes are from Australia, there are often stories set around a Christmas that takes place in the middle of summer.
It's super fun. I've gotten the Spectacular every year since she started doing it. This will be the fifth year. And I can't recommend it enough. I've read some really excellent fiction and it gives me something fun to look forward to every day of the holidays.
And to my absolute delight, I have a story in the Spectacular this year!
I have no idea when it will be delivered during the event--none of the writers know until their story shows up in their inboxes--but it will be there! And I'm pretty excited about it, because I really loved this story, and I really really love the short story advent calendar concept of this project.
To get the Spectacular going every year, Kris and the WMG crew run a Kickstarter for it . That Kickstarter is going on now! It's a great way to get the Spectacular, and if you'd like the collections in paperback form, or other fun holiday related swag, it's a really fun Kickstarter to back.
If you're not a Kickstarter person, the Spectacular will still be available for sale separately. All the information about it all will be at the Kickstarter and at WMG's website.
I hope you'll consider backing the project and/or getting the Holiday Spectacular! It's so much fun.

But if you prefer to pick up the individual story on its own as an eBook, this is your chance.For those reading the Cary Redmond series, or the Demon Witch series, this novella features the demon hunter Aidan in yet another appearance where we see her through someone else's eyes. Second Half of the Year
And I can't believe it's July already! This year is just flying past. I didn't mind that so much in my youth, but now, I'd be happier if things slowed down. *grin*
This month, I have a fun experiment out. A collection of stories, all starting with the same line, all six of them in completely different genres! And they all start with the line (and the question), Who steals a dragon?
Which, when you think about it, is a really good question.
This is what I'm calling a Pick Your Genre collection. A collection for the eclectic reader. The person who reads all kinds of genres, but what they read at any give point really depends on their mood. Well, in this collection, you get to pick the genre you're in the mood for! You can read the collection from start to finish or jump around. No rules! Just a lot of fun stories in different genres about different dragons.
WHO STEALS A DRAGON is out now in eBook, Trade paperback, and Large Print paperback editions!

I have to say, I think this is one of the coolest interiors I've ever had for a book. And the eBook edition has everything linked to make it easy to jump around to the different genre stories. I hope readers will have as much with the collection as I had fun writing it!
Sales alert
For my Smashwords readers, this month, Smashwords is having their annual Summer/Winter sale and just about everything in my catalogue is 50% off! Be sure to check it out!

~~~
I also have two books in the Kobo BOGO sale this month, Designed for You and The Trouble with Black Cats and Demons . If you’re a Kobo reader, be sure to check out the sale!
Next month
I start releasing individual stories from last year's Haunts and Howls collection as individual eBooks. I'm starting with Anger Management because we're coming up to a new Demon Witch novel in September, and Anger Management features the demon hunter Aidan, so it just felt like the right time.
I'll also have the next story in the Percy James series out toward the end of August. This one is a little more appropriate for November, so if you want to hoard it until then, that would work!
More on both stories next month.
Don't Miss Last Month's Releases!
Happy Reading!~Kat
Two Releases and I'm really bad at post titles...
Every month, I find myself trying for something either descriptive or even a little pithy for the titles of these posts. And every month, I fail miserably. Just so you know. I am bad at titles. And that includes website page titles. LOL.
Anyway, happy June! This month, I have two novella eBook releases.
The first is the standalone release of a Cary Redmond novella, previously published in the A Very Cary Holiday collection. The second is a new short novella in a soft-boiled, amateur sleuth mystery series I've been playing in!
Welcome to the Azur Regent
Percy James rarely trudges through a dull day at her job asa front desk clerk of a small boutique hotel on the Upper East Side. New YorkCity draws all kinds, and a lot of the more interesting people end up at theAzur Regent. Percy loves the variety. Always a story to tell. Always somethinginteresting happening.
But sometimes things can get maybe a little too interesting.
Because even small boutique hotels turn up occasionaltrouble. Like the guest room covered in blood.
Uncovering the culprit and keeping the other guests safe,all while not getting reprimanded by her boss… Percy will count that as a goodday at work.
So long as no one dies.
Quick note about paperback prices: Amazon has had to raise their printing costs this month and that has necessitated raising some of my print book prices. This mostly affects the Large Print paperback editions. I have tried to keep the prices as reasonable as possible. And where I can, I've kept the prices the same (this is essentially true across the board with the Trade paperback editions). There might be some hardback price increases as well. Just a heads-up if you notice a price increase.
Next month: I have an sort of experimental thing releasing. I don't want to say too much about it yet until I have it put together, but it's a collection of stories, and there are dragons... More in July!
Until then, enjoy the start of summer, or winter depending on your hemisphere.
