An Amazing Article

Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?: Larry Norman, Christian Rock, and Evangelical Identity

I don’t agree with his lambasting of Janis Joplin, though his words may have been true, but he had some great qualities and some amazing music.      -Brendan Shea

Please Sign Petition to Save Solar in California

If you’d like to help save the California solar industry from potential harm, please consider signing this petition to Governor Newsom:

The CPUC’s own commissioner is on the side of PG&E, so there is a need to assert your opinion, if this is something you care about.

A Bona-Fide Solution

I am the bottle-washer in my home; my better-half hates cleaning, but I was rewarded for doing cleaning as a child, with an allowance for music, movies, stamps and comic books, obtained on the weekends. I guess it makes sense that cleaning doesn’t bother me much.

Periodically, I’m tasked with a chore beyond the everyday, and at those times, I need to get the work done immediately, so that I can ‘play’ afterwards – going out, writing, reading, movies, etcetera. While I want to do the fun stuff first, things seem to go a bit better if I apply myself to the task and nothing else, until done.

Recently, my wife purchased a new dust-mop, and a new wet mop. The dust mop is effective for our faux-hardwood floors, but the wet mop is extraordinary, and I am singing it’s praises already. My new ‘best friend’ is the BonaⓇ Premium Spray Mop for Hardwood Floors, and it works like a dream.

After dusting the house with a Swiffer (don’t let the earring fool you!), I dismantled everything that wasn’t a piece of heavy furniture or weighing more than 100 lbs, vacuumed the rug, shook all the floor mats out and left them on the porch, and proceeded to dust mop the entire house.

We’d had a cheap, ‘strap the soggy Velcro strapped mop pad over the plastic mop head’ apparatus for years, but as I wondered why my wife is crazy about Bed, Bath & Beyond, I broke out the Bona mop and went to town. It mopped solidly, smoothly, thoroughly, around corners, and the thick, Velcroed cleaning pad stayed on perfectly.

The Bona sprayer never missed, never clogged and never spit beyond its targeted area. In a word, it worked great. The physical feel of the mop is, no-joke, like a solidly engineered vehicle whose doors go, “CHUNK”, when you close them; the weight is perfect, and the handles are comfortable. I’d like it to extend a little taller, but that’s it.

I hope if you’re the chief bottle washer, or just get stuck with the task of, ‘swabbing the deck’, that you have a BonaⓇ Premium Spray Mop on hand; it’s a pleasure to use.

Power Bowls r Us?

They say you are what you eat, and if that’s so, then yesterday, I was a legumed chicken a la vitamin A with garlic powder and a touch of butter.

I sometimes get to have a Powerbowl for lunch on workdays. Powerbowls are delicious, nutritious and reasonably priced.

I am all about variety, and had a few extra steamed carrot wedges, so I microwaved my powerbowl for the requisite five minutes, and set to work.

After warming up the carrots, I stirred in a touch of olive oil and a 1/2 teaspoon of butter, I diced the wedges as I folded them into the bowl.

To save energy, I ate the meal in its paper bowl container, sprinkling in some garlic powder. I was going to use salt, but am trying to cut down.

The bowl may have had enough salt already, but whatever the case, I didn’t need to add any salt; the dish tasted great, and the carrots also made the portion just right.

Pasta Romano Please

Or the pasta parmigiano, said Louie to Linguine…as the cheese went enviably around the lazy Susan…

My wife and I missed out on some recent festivities we’d planned to enjoy in the Monterey area, but last weekend managed to make it for a day trip.

Lalla’s Grill has a nice heated courtyard inside a pub across the street from their main restaurant, where refuge may be found from cold temperatures and sore feet.

I mention the pub because one of us later was in sore need of immediate water, and the pub hostess kindly obliged.

Some time earlier, after a trek through gridlock of epic proportions, considering the era of COVID, we found our usual parking lot and walked to our planned luncheon destination.

The wait time was an hour and a half, and while I’d ‘comestibled’ some smokehouse almonds for the occasion, my better half indicated our appetite for lunch was to remain unbesmirched.

Good fortune smiled upon us as we were able to relax on the only nearby bench, whilst my wife with utmost practicality summoned up delectable steaming clam chowder cups with liquid refreshment to boot.

I harangued a bit, wanting to check in with our host, now and again, but my M-r-s insisted I be patient, and in the allotted time, we were seated.

The bay winds blew icily through us, as we ordered, ate and drank. My salad was okay; the weather was part to blame, but chiefly shy on bléu and the greens a tad dry.

The pastas arrived, and they were both farfalle… she had artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes. I had a creamy sauce with bacon, chicken, peas, and tomatoes.

I asked our server to hold the bacon, as I’m transitioning to a more vegan lifestyle, but didn’t go so far as to hold off the pollo, not wanting to be high maintenance.

The pastas were made to order, so redacting the chicken probably would have been easy, but when the dishes arrived, they were fresh, hot, and the chicken thankfully not in the least bit fleshy.

Thus far, I seem to be more motivated towards veganism by taste, health and texture than by philosophy, so I was okay with the meal, not that the philosophical aspect might not assert itself in the future.

The food at this restaurant was excellent, and while the server didn’t offer to refresh our drinks, offer us bread, nor ask if we needed water, in the end, we seemed to get exactly what we needed.

The restaurant nearby had a two and a half hour wait, many foods we didn’t want, and a very pricey menu; all in all, I was very satisfied with our choice: Louie Linguini’s.

Aprés Dix Ans

Si jamais des années

Pour que les deux fusionnent

Vivre aux mieux

Mis à l’épreuve

Moins devraient-ils plaisanter

Trouver ce bon accord

Si ça passe

Quand ça arrive

Ill vont grok juste quoi ooh

Sentir la même chose

Enroulement dans le cadre

Comme personages de Jean Anouilh

Si ça arrive

Quand ça arrive

Vous n’êtes peut-être arrivé

La broche frappe

Toujours la ventilateur

Mais parfois, la liberté est là

Alors continue d’essayer

N’abandonne pas

Jamais dans la mêlée

Bien que l’enfer lui-même vous fasse face

Celui qu’il est là avec toi

La lutte est dure

Cette ténacité ne joue pas

L’humour seul ne fera pas de bruit

Ceignez votre esprit

Et votre cœur

Et un jour

La liberté régnera

Nous sommes à lui

Et il est à nous

Dieu prendra

Soin

De Vous
