Kawasan Canyoneering Review, Cebu, Philippines

This post is a Kawasan Canyoneering review.

Kawasan Canyoneering Review - waterhole - Survive Travel

Kawasan Canyoneering (or canyoning) is hiking through the canyon area around Kawasan Falls in southern Cebu (Cebu Island, not the Cebu City) in the Philippines. You trek through water and jump of stuff. I really like canyoneering and although we had some mishaps on this journey I had a really good time.

This Kawasan Canyoneering review includes personal opinions and useful information including directions, pictures, costs, etc.

5 Awesome Things to do in Krabi, Thailand

Discover 5 awesome things to do in Krabi.

Things to do in Krabi - Wat Kaew Temple - Survive Travel

Krabi is in the southern province of Changwat in Thailand. The Krabi coastline is the Andaman Sea.

This overview of things to do in Krabi gives a short review of each of the “things to do” as well as links to more detailed reviews (where applicable) which include directions, pictures and other useful information.

Right Picture: Wat Kaew Temple in Krabi Town.

Featured Picture: Just one of the many beaches along the coast.

Things to do in Krabi

This list of things to do in Krabi could have been much longer than five but during my time in Krabi i was not feeling very well which meant a) I didn’t want to do too much, and b) I did not want to write too many posts. So I have crammed everything into this short list.

1. Walk Along the Riverside

The Krabi riverside is a nice stroll along, especially in the early evening when it is not too hot. You get a great scenery of these two “rocks” which has a proper name but I just don’t know it.

View from the riverside.

2. Ao Nang

Ao Nang is less than a half hour drive from Krabi Town and is probably the place where most tourists will immediately head to. It is nice in its typical “tourist beach area” way. Tourist shops, food, money changers, etc.

Ao Nang Beach.

3. Markets

There are a few different night markets in Krabi. One in the middle of town, one just south of the riverfront, one just up the road of the Diamond Home Resort (every other day) and one one the weekend also called the pedestrian walking street. They are mainly food related which suited me great.

Just on of the many markets in Krabi Town.

There are also a number of day markets dotted around the place.

4. Temples

Wat Kaew temple is smack bang in the middle of Krabi Town. Next to this is also an art museum.

Wat Kaew Temple.

About 8 or so km’s out of town is another temple called the Tiger Temple. I did not actually go there although I definitely would have if I was feeling better or realised it was there on the day I hired a motorbike. You can easily catch a bus there from town outside Vogue which is a small but well known department store in town.

5. Coastal Ride

Once again my favorite thing to do makes the list even though it is not really any significant attraction, and that is to hire a motorbike and go for a ride. The coast line of Krabi actually holds a few great attractions. Even though they didn’t each get a point on this list they actually each deserve their own post. Unfortunately I was not feeling very well during my stay in Krabi so i just skimmed past each of them.

Without going into great detail there are a number of semi-secluded beaches, a shell fossil site, a nature trail and waterfall (which I did attempt to do properly but it closes at 3pm, i.e., I rocked up too late) a hot spring, an “emerald pool”, “lover’s road” and more.

There are a number fo nice beaches along the coast other than Ao Nang.

Getting To Krabi

I came in from Khao Lak which has no direct bus to Krabi. From out the front of the Riverside Guesthouse I caught the bus to Khok Kloi. It took about 2 hours and costs 100THB. From there I caught another bus to Krabi which cost 120THT and took about 2.5 hours.

When leaving I flew out of Krabi to Cebu. I took the free shuttle from the Diamond Guest House to town (10 minutes) and then the shuttle bus to the airport. It cost 120THB and took under half an hour.

Have you been to Krabi before? Help out other readers and leave your tips on things to do in Krabi (or anything else you want to say) in the comments

6 Wonderful Things to do in Khao Lak, Thailand

Discover 6 wonderful things to do in Khao Lak, Thailand.

things to do in Khao Lak - Country Side - Survive Travel

Khao Lak is a region on the west coast of the mainland of Thailand, just above Phuket.

This overview of things to do in Khao Lak gives a short review of each of the “things to do” as well as links to more detailed reviews (where applicable) which include directions, pictures and other useful information.

Right Picture: Riding through the countryside.

Featured Picture: Bang Niang Beach.

Things to do in Khao Lak

Originally my intention was to use Khao Lak as a base to get to Khao Sok National Park and as a good stopping point on my way to Krabi. As it turns out I never ended up going to Khao Sok National Park but enjoyed my time in Khao Lak all the same.

1. Tsunami Museum

Not too long ago (I can’t recal the year) Krabi and probably the whole of the Andaman coast was devastated by a tsunami. As a result there are signs all about the area pointing you to the tsunami evacuation route and warning you or tsunami danger areas (which I imagine is anywhere near the beach). In Bang Niang there si a navy boat which, after the tsunami, ended up a far whack away from the water. It stands where the wave left it, newly painted for you to take a photo of.

Left in the exact same spot the tsunami left it.

Just down the road from this boat along the highway is the Tsunami Musuem. I never went in. It looks small from the out side and seems to be free entry.

2. Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park

Instead of Khao Sok I decided to go to the Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park for a number of reasons. It was less of a mission to get to (I was a little sick at the time), slightly cheaper, easier to get around and less crowds, i.e., Khao Sok is the one most tourists go to.

3. Chong Fah Waterfall

The ticket for the Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park also got me into the Chong Fah Waterfall. Unfortunately for me the water level was very low so I didn’t see much more than a trickle. I imagine when the flow is strong it is quite impressive.

Unfortunately at the time I was there Chong Fah Waterfall have very little water.

Need somewhere to sleep while visiting Khao Lak in Thailand? Find your perfect accommodation no matter what your budget.

4. Beaches

There are a number of beaches that line along the area of Khao Lak. The one closest to Bang La On is called Nang Thong.

Nang Thong Beach.

The one that was closest to where I stayed (in the Riverside Gueshouse in Bang Niang) is known as Bang Niang.

Bang Niang Beach.

My favorite one was in the next town up and like Bang Niang it shared the same name as its town, Khuk Khak.

Khuk Khak Beach.

There are a couple of others too which I did not visit.

5. Towns

The three towns have already been mentioned. Bang La On is the most visited by tourist and is the most south in the Khao Lak. The next one is where I stayed called Bang Niang. It seemed to me pretty much the same as Bang La On. Perhaps a little smaller and therefore less tourists. The final one is Khuk Khak. I drove through it but only to see the beach. It seemed to have more of an industrial feel to it.

… Guess I forgot to take a picture of this
