Google for Tamil 2.0 Blogger/Publisher Meet, Chennai
Today I went to the Google for Tamil 2.0 Blogger/Online Publisher meet at Zone by the Park, Chennai. This event was organised by Google & IndiBlogger. I guess more than 100 people came today from various parts of Tamil Nadu.
Google says that the amount of English content on the Internet is around 55% currently, and the amount of content in Indian languages (including Tamil, Hindi, etc.) is less than 0.1%! With the Internet revolution created by Jio, demand for local language content, especially on mobiles, is growing much faster than content in English – it seems.
So they feel there is an opportunity for Tamil publishers, writers, and bloggers who create quality content to find an audience Online, via websites, blogs & mobile apps.
Recently, in February 2018, Google had launched Google Adsense in Tamil. Adsense is Google’s advertising platform which allows individual publishers to sign-up and show ads from Google’s advertising partners. Publishers can earn (per click) when contextual ads on their websites are clicked by readers (mostly from search engines).
The Cost Per Click (what publishers would earn for every click) would differ based on where the reader is from, the topic of the article, advertiser competition for keywords related to you site, etc. On a related note, Google now allows advertisers to advertise in Tamil via Google Adwords.
If you are starting out or have less than 1000 visitors per day for your website, don’t expect much in terms of revenue. The Online Publishing game works well if you are able to scale up your visitors/followers relatively quickly by creating unique & engaging content – preferably in a particular niche. Following up with the latest trends and technology, and implementing them on your websites are also crucial.
I am telling you this because I have seen both highs and lows of the Online Advertising business model, and am a Google Adsense partner for almost 10-years now – for English content. In spite of all that experience, I still learned many things during today’s conference, and will be implementing a few of their suggestions on my blogs shortly.
Once the event slides are sent to me, I will link to the document from here. Do go through them if you are a publisher – irrespective of whether you create content in Tamil or any other language, including English. I am sure you’ll learn some important pointers that’ll help you grow your revenue.
I wish Google for English had organised meets like this in Chennai many years back!

Why does a Rajnikanth’s Movie (Kaala) Need Ads?
I don’t understand why a Rajnikanth movie – Kaala or anything else for that matter, need any marketing/ads?
Doesn’t everyone in Tamil Nadu or every Tamil-speaking person in the world know about the movie release already?
Creative marketing efforts like Twitter launching an emoji that appears when you type #Kaala are interesting.
But I wonder why this movie needs ads on TV/Net?
Maybe the creators could have done something about the actual issue: Improving the availability of tickets during the first few days of the movie release. Rajni may have tried, but his efforts don’t seem to be sufficient

3D Photo Slideshow – Our Taj Mahal Trip Photos
I have now learned how to create 3D Models – the 3D Taj Mahal you see in the above video was created by me from scratch.
I have also learned how to convert regular photos into 3D objects. I have placed these 3D photos around the 3D Taj Mahal set created by me, in the above video.
Now, when I move the camera from one photo to another, a 3D photo slideshow effect is created. Look at how beautifully the photos blend in 3D space.
I plan to create more 3D sets like these in order to use them as backgrounds/props for my 3D slideshows. The world of 3D is welcoming me and I have just started… Hope to do much more…

Promo Video for our Fashion Bangle (30-sec)
I guess you all know that Ramya makes Fashion Jewellery and I make Videos. So when the two skills combine, we get a beautiful video for a Fashion Jewellery product (Bangle – Gold-colour Metal with Blue Crystals).
After quite a long time, we have come out with pricing (at least for this one), a way for customers to place orders and ways to collect payment. So to celebrate our pro-activeness, I thought why not share the video everywhere possible, including this blog

Why Indian Railways is too Eager for Feedback all of a sudden?
Recently, I was travelling by Train and suddenly a Railways employee came to clean it. In the next five minutes a few people (including yours truly) received a rather elaborate feedback form and a pen to fill it.
Not knowing what rating to give on the provided scale of 1 to 5, I filled up numbers between 2 – 4 to give them an average rating of 3. This is similar to the technique I used to answer multi-choice questions in exams, but that’s for a different post.
I left the PNR No. column empty. But the attendant wouldn’t take it without that all-important information. He made me refer to it on my phone and fill it up. I obliged. I was glad that I was done with the feedback thing with my contribution towards improving a thing or two.
The next day, I got a call from Indian Railways in the morning when I was taking bath. I missed it. I got another call soon after and I missed that too. I attended the third call which I got after a couple of hours and then cut it hoping that will stop the calls.
But it seemed IR was not pleased with my inaction. I got one more call. This time I made sure I not only attended it but also chose all the appropriate options for the feedback before cutting the call, hoping to end the call series.
Interestingly, one of the questions was about punctuality. I used this opportunity to give them a ‘2’ rating for taking us 1-hour late to the destination. That one grace point was for starting the train on the correct time

Think Beyond a Selfie for the Best Selfie Experience
That’s one of our favorite photos taken using a selfie camera because it shows our favorite game (Darts) right behind us. Ya, we still play these sort of games sometimes. We don’t keep scores and all, but we just play for fun

What is ‘Development’?
As far as I see it, ‘DEVELOPMENT’ is a PROPAGANDA to increase the GDP so that the Industry & Government can make MORE MONEY by making believers WORK MORE and MORE in the promise of a better lifestyle which is NEVER achieved.
I guess our P.M. would like to refute this argument.
But how about you?

‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ Movie Review
‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ Telugu movie review.
It’s a difficult task to review movies like these. At one side, they hold the viewer’s attention successfully and entertain us. So paisa-vasool.
But on the other side, there is absolutely no attempt to be even slightly realistic. I understand it’s difficult esp. with a super-hero like Mahesh Babu.
I now understand why there are no super-heroes like Batman, Super Man, etc. in India. Our heroes are as good as, or even better than, fantasy characters abroad.
Maybe we prefer to live our fantasies realistically?
Hmm…
