Confession of a Mystery Romance Author

I have a confession to make.

I love another….

DUN DUN DUN

13574386953_250a7bdf30_z

….genre.

For some of you that have been following me on social media and facebook, you’ll probably know that my first love is in the genre of science fiction and fantasy. Have I released a book out in the genre yet? Well sort of…Shadow of Wrath falls under the dysoptian scifi category I’d say, but as far as full on fantasy and scifi, I have no novels penned…yet.

So what brought me down this path of discussion, regarding scifi and fantasy? Well I met up with a buddy of mine back in highschool, just to reconnect and see what’s new in his life. Amidst the discussions of the World Cup, protein powders, and sexual conquests, the topic of discussion turned into writing, and I was surprised to hear that he was into it.

We talked about our love of scifi and fantasy, and great books we both love such as Game of Thrones series, Dune, Ender’s Game, The Name of the Wind…and the list goes on and on and on.

And gosh damn it, it rekindled the love affair I have for this genre.

I’m sure someday down the road I’ll get to penning a book (hopefully all you readers will come along for the ride and expand beyond the romance genre).

Meanwhile though, I’m committed to finishing the Midnight Society series as well as expanding its universe with novellas of some beloved characters.

Despite not having a full novel penned, I do have some short stories written in the genre. So, adding to my free reading library, here’s a little tale I’m quite proud of entitled: The Universe Inside Me.

Meanwhile, Penumbra is only 13 days away!

Something to wet your….

So, this past week, I had the amazing opportunity to do a Facebook fan page takeover on Submit and Devour’s lovely facebook page. Now, usually when I do Facebook takeovers, I want to give you something different, a mind boggling experience that can’t be replicated. I want to be original. I want to be unique.

When you’re with me, I want you to experience something you’ve never felt before.

124141561_2f7d2bbe3c_z

I decided last minute–what the hell–I’d do a live short story writing session on Submit and Devour’s facebook page, with the help of you readers. I asked for inspirational images, and in return, I’d write a story based on those images.

What I ended up with was a neat little flash fiction story that served as a mini-prequel to Semblance–the first book of my best selling romance, mystery, and suspense series, the Midnight Society–involving one of the very minor characters making an appearance.

[Related: Your exclusive preview of Semblance]

You can read the entire flash fiction story (a short story under 1000 words) HERE.

[Read Liberty--A Live Writing Flash Fiction Story, set in the world of the Midnight Society]

Consider Liberty something that will wet your palate before the release of Penumbra, the sequel to Semblance.

I mentioned on my facebook fanpage that there’s going to be some big news coming soon regarding Penumbra. If you guessed that I’ll be announcing the release date, you’re half correct! Along with that, I’ll also be giving you another exclusive preview, so stay tuned on this blog, on my facebook, and on twitter.

Currently Penumbra is in the beta reading stage, and I’m currently working on a scintillating cover that will stimulate you from your eyeballs to your toes.

Meanwhile, if you’re a book blogger and are interested in me doing one of my infamous, one-of-a-kind Facebook Fanpage takeover, contact me using the form at the end of this post.

Because of the fact that on one hand, I’m juggling my laptop, the other, my baby girl, and with whatever real estate that’s left on my body, I’m satisfying my wife…by doing chores…, I can only do a couple of takeovers every month.

If I don’t come back at you right away, please, don’t hate me! I admit, I’m behind on all my emails, but I still love to hear from you!

Regrets…

She died, but not because of me.

It took a long time for me to understand this; to realize that the burden of what happened to her wasn’t because of the things I said or did.

*Deep Breath*

Even 16 years later, I still reflect on it, and at times guilt creeps up on me. Some things, you can never move past completely.

Maybe one day, I’ll be ready to share with you lovely folks reading my blog the detailed circumstances of those events. But not today.

So why begin my blog post in this fashion? Well what I had planned originally was to talk about one of the central themes of Penumbra: Regret, and reflecting on my own past experience has left me in an morose mood.

[Related: Your exclusive sneak preview of Penumbra]

Regret is a terrible thing to experience. With your heart buried in the past, how can one ever move forward? Sometimes you wish you could have done something differently–to make a different choice that could have altered the fates of you and everyone around you.

Aria Valencia, the main character of my best selling romance mystery & suspense series, the Midnight Society, has gone through hell and back. At the end of Semblance, her life has been destroyed, torn apart by the Midnight Society’s shocking and psychotic nemesis. And Aria can’t help but feel responsible for the death of someone close to her.

[Related: Semblance, Book One of the Midnight Society, a best seller in romance mystery & suspense]

Her guilt and regret resonates throughout Penumbra as she struggles to piece her life back together. She’ll need to find ways to persevere, otherwise she’ll be consumed by all her dark thoughts.

And she can’t do it alone.

So, with Penumbra’s second draft complete, we’re closing in on the release date for book two. Do I have a firm date in mind? No.

I want the book as close to perfect as possible, and until I’m confident of that, I won’t be making any announcements on when Penumbra will be released. But I promise you, it will be sooner than later.

Meanwhile, make sure to keep pimping Semblance! I do appreciate every single person’s efforts in spreading the name of Logan Patrick’s across the literary landscapes! Heck, it motivates me to work faster in delvering more books into your hands =).

I guess I’ll leave this post on a final note: Love one another and never forget you’re wonderful.

I’ve stated before that I have the most caring/kind/amazing readers in the universe, and none of you have given me any reason to think otherwise. Sometimes, I can’t help but notice that there are others out there that resort to being cruel, to talk bad about other people, to push others down to climb out ahead.

And I just can’t understand why?

Ignore the bad, focus on the good of others, and continuing being the wonderful person you are, and then you can live a life without any regrets. There’s nothing worse than feeling responsible for the misery of others.

Trust me.

A Dark, Mysterious, Sexy World

I’ve got more news today than the Toronto newspapers after a Rob Ford pub crawl! (P.s. how awesome would it be if Rob Ford was a fan of the Midnight Society, my best selling romance mystery & suspense series?)

First up, a status update for Penumbra. The first round of edits are done! There’s an orgasmic light at the end of the tunnel! Hurray! Hip thrust, O-face!

I’ll be sending off the second draft to my beta readers soon, which means another major milestone of getting book two of the Midnight Society ready for publication and onto your sexy reading device. Many have asked me what the release date is but I honestly can’t give one other than Spring 2014. That means either May or June. Once it’s ready, I’ll announce it on this blog and to everyone who signed up for my exclusive guest list.

[Related: Your Exclusive Preview of Penumbra - Book Two of the Midnight Society Series]

Next up on the agenda, I wanted to expand the world of the Midnight Society–a dark,  mysterious, sexy world–a bit further before beginning the third book of the series. It wasn’t until I was midway through Penumbra that I realized that there’s a lot of story to tell, some of it not necessarily fitting into the main series. However these stories are canon to the Midnight SocietyUniverse itself, and flesh out the world much further.

Thus I have 3 prequel novellas (roughly 50 – 75 pages of story each) planned in between the release of Penumbra, and the yet unnamed third book of the series.

The first novella will involve the evil, wicked, and vile Crow Brothers, but more specific, the Crow sister. Yes, you heard me, there’s a Crow Sister. How does she fit into their dark and terrible world filled with blood, violence? Not well.

The second novella planned stems from a reader question I came across regarding Semblance: “How the heck does someone not notice all the dead bodies accumulated during Semblance?” The answer to that is easy. The Midnight Society has an awesome cleaner. Thus the second book, I’ll explore the carnage left behind by the Midnight Society, and the lonely existence of the guy who has to clean up their mess.

Finally, a character favorite returns in a prequel with a bittersweet love story (sorry, no sex in this one but plenty of heart wrenching romance) entitled: Constantine (a.k.a. this guy).

Alright folks, the natives are restless (and by natives, I mean my daughter who’s right now sitting on my lap and making sure everything on my desk winds up either in her mouth or on the floor).

Just a Taste…

Wow, it seems like so long since I’ve last blogged. I’ve been keeping pretty busy updating my new look website *ta-daa*, editing Penumbra, and building my facebook fanpage–thus my poor little blog got neglected for a while, like Gregor Cleagane from Game of Thrones. (Yes, I’m a Game of Thrones fan, and if you don’t know who Gregor Cleagane is, my point exactly).

A few exciting things to announce. The edits for Penumbra are going well. I’m trying to speed up my editing and second draft process, and thus far it looks to be working which means Penumbra should be coming sooner than later. I still refuse to give a hard date because…well nothing’s worse than false promises.

Meanwhile, for those that are itching to read more from me *hip thrust if you are!*, if you’ve been following me on my facebook fanpage (and shame on you if you didn’t!) you’ll know that I’ve been releasing some short, micro stories which I’ve been calling Vignettes. They’re fun little stories I can write in 10 minutes, and come with some provocative images.

I’m Aroused By Your….

When I set out to write Semblance, I wanted to write a book that was very visual, constructing resonating images that invoked a wide range of emotions in my readers.

[Related: Semblance -- The First Book of the Midnight Society]

It looks like I did my job well in creating memorable scenes, because over the past couple of months, I received some amazing fan art/graphics/images from scenes and situations in Semblance that has seriously left me tingling.

This blog is just as much about you as it is me…after all if I don’t have any readers, I’m just a guy writing sexy words on the train ride to work for my own satisfaction, and that’s kinda sad.

Erection. Clitoris.

Anyway without further ado, your wonderful, sexy, hip-thrust worthy art.

A Satisfying Finish!

Ladies and gentlemen (yes, I have gentleman readers too! yay!),

As of March 21st, 2014 at 5:07 pm Easter time, the 1st draft of Penumbra, the sequel to the Amazon Bestselling Semblance, is finished….and boy am I relieved.

It’s been a challenge writing a sequel that lives up to the original’s name. There were several times that I wanted to scream while I wrote on the train ride to work, out of sheer frustration about trying to figure out a perfect ending. I think I did a good job, delivering a finish that will be satisfying and leave you thirsting for more, like a twinkling vampire thirsting for virgin blood (luckily I think we’ll all be safe on that front =P).

Let me say this now, what I have planned for book three will be pure insanity.

So what’s next?

Well now I take a week off and read some books (I have Gillian Flynn, J.D. Robb, and Pepper Winters lined up) and after that, I start editing the first draft of Penumbra, hacking away at it like a mass murderer, before I begin the second draft.

What does this mean for the publication date of Penumbra? It’s still projected for late May/Early June 2014 publication date.

I also have some more great news, I’ve started working on a novella (~100 pages) Midnight Society prequel entitled: Constantine, which will fit in nicely with Penumbra. If all goes according to plan, Constantine should be released just shortly after Penumbra.

Alright, I’m burning daylight, I plan on giving myself multiple book hangovers over this next week!

Cheers,

Logan Patricks
