The Final Scene - A Ray and Cain Mystery
The 4th story in the Ray and Cain series is now available, along with a box set of all the stories. They are all in Kindle Unlimited and will be free on the 19th and 20th January.
The Final Scene:
Ray and Cain appear as extras on a TV show. All goes well, and Cain even gets to meet his hero, Jason Diamond.Later on, Cain receives a note from Jason inviting him to his caravan. Jason wants to offer him some acting advice. Cain eagerly sets off to the caravan.Things take a turn for the worse when Ray goes looking for Cain and finds him crouched over the dead body of Jason Diamond.Onlookers are convinced Cain murdered Jason. The evidence supports this, and Cain is arrested.
Ray can’t let his friend be charged for a crime he didn’t commit and sets about finding the real killer.

If you're familiar with my Julia Blake mysteries, you'll know that her dad, Ray, and her colleague, Cain, have become good friends. 'Grace Abrahams helps ghosts who can’t move on until their problems have been solved. The ghosts she meets are attached to items found at storage locker auctions.
Vince is the ghost of a young man who is attached to a coffin. He’s confused when he appears to Grace, and can’t remember the details of his life, although he does recognise the coffin. He jokes that he might be a vampire.
His joke turns sour when his personality abruptly changes and he’s transformed into a nastier version of himself. And this version is intent on causing Grace harm.'

I was inspired to write these stories after reading a book called Haunted Leeds. We've got a theatre and a music hall in the centre of Leeds, and both are apparently haunted. I combined both aspects of the buildings in my story. I had a visit to Leeds to get some photos of these lovely buildings.
This is The Grand. Built in 1878. I've been here to see Wicked, Grease and Joseph. It's a beautiful building.
In contrast, this is the alley way that leads to City Varieties Music Hall. A TV show called The Good Old Days was filmed here for years. I've been to see a few comedians here.
Here is the oldest church in Leeds, St John's. Built in 1632. I walked through the gardens on my way to the theatre. Unfortunately, the paved area is made of gravestones and you have no option but to walk on them. I sent a silent apology over each one as I walked across.
Another old church I walked past is Trinity Church. Built in 1727. It's in front of a new shopping centre which is called Trinity. The shopping centre has a clear roof and you can see the church spire through it.

I've started work on a new series about two sisters, Ruby and Nessa Laurel, who are ghost hunters. I've started the series with two short stories:
