Just How Wise, Strong, and Rich Are You?

Wise? Strong? Rich? Are not these the standard measures for success in this world? A computer technician from another country conducting technical support over the telephone with me recently gushed at the mouth over how clear it is when he speaks to Americans how vitally important riches and appearance are to so many of us in this nation. He did not speak of wisdom and strength, but are these not also standard measurements of living the so-called American dream? How often have we measured the...

Which Side of the Gap Will You Be On?

When the rich man in the Bible went to be tormented in hell and the beggar man Lazarus was transported by angels to Abraham's bosom, the rich man begged Abraham to send the beggar man Lazarus to him to cool his tongue with water. How unimaginable the perpetual torment of forever in hell when even the very tongue is desperate for a single drop of water. But it was too late for the rich man who lived for his riches and prosperity and pleasure on this earth.

The gap between eternity in hell and f...

Serving God in Your Everyday Life

This week I had the great pleasure - and privilege - of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a man from a local business who gave me a ride to another local business, ministering to a friend going through a fiery trial whom I ran into both times I hauled off my trash to a dumpster, sharing an exceedingly personal part of my testimony in a letter to a woman who adopted a dog from me several years back, talking to a temporarily homeless woman with two small kids about the need for repentance...

DONATIONS for Blind Dog's Eye Surgery - No More Eyes......

She's come a long way baby. Mostly blind Glory, whose "seeing eye dog" and best buddy is two-footed Winnie who lost her back feet when she was run over by a train, is about to get her second eye removed. With virtually no eyesight in her remaining eye, the likely discomfort of a cherry eye and ongoing eye issues including the strong probability of glaucoma among other things, and the need for at least three eye medications/treatments several times daily,

Glory in the animal shelter before her...

An Invitation from Jesus

If Jesus Christ Himself came to your town for a visit in the next few days and planned to do some teaching, would you make plans to go to where He planned to teach to see what He had to say? So often the scriptures that seem so insignificant to me that I have a tendency to rush right on past in search of "more important" scriptures often are exactly what I cannot afford to miss. When chapter 8 of the Book of John opens, it appears that the second verse is merely a description of Jesus' wherea...

THE WRONG REASON FOR GRACE

Rom 6:1  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Rom 6:3  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:1-4 KJV

"God'...

Is It Time to Shut Your Mouth?

1Jn 3:16  Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1Jn 3:17  But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1Jn 3:18  My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18 KJV

I arrived at the post office with my hair in a milli...

Is Fear Stopping You?

Is fear stopping you from doing something God has called you to do? Or, is fear getting you to do something God has clearly told you not to do? Or both? Is fear driving your decisions? Is fear driving your life? Or are you allowing God to lead you in His ways? Whom are you following? Fear? Or God?

Do you know that you are a servant to the one whom you obey? Are you a servant of fear? Or do you serve God? Are you yielding yourself to fear as a vessel of unrighteousness? Or are you submitting to...

490 Is NOT a Magic Number

If you think 490 is some kind of magic number because Jesus told Peter that we should forgive someone 490 times if that person keeps offending us over and again, you may well be missing the point. Why did Jesus tell Peter that we should forgive someone 70 times 7? Some would say it is because 7 is considered the number of perfection and completion.

Is it time to forgive again?Others might say Jesus picked the number 490 because it is such an unattainable number that He makes the point we simpl...

INVITATION: Peace, Grace, and Hope - Forever

When was the last time you were filled with peace, flooded with grace, and overwhelmed by hope? Ever? If it was the kind of peace, grace, and hope that comes from the world and from circumstances, then surely it was fleeting. After all, life can be a roller coaster. One minute you are peaceful, the next minute everything crashes and your peace flies out the window. Same with grace and hope, right? When peace, grace, and hope are contingent on your everyday life and circumstances, fasten your...
