Changing Tastes

For many authors, writing is an intensely person endeavour. It reflects not only their experiences but also their beliefs, emotions, and temperament. However, these things are not static. As we grow older, we acquire new experiences, and these can change our beliefs, emotions, and even our temperament. This means that an authors writing can, and often does, change over time.

Likewise, reading can also be a very personal activity. How we interpret, appreciate, and enjoy a story depends on our...

Progress Report 19-04-2020

I just thought Id let you all know how things are going. Australia continues to be in lockdown, but Ive been chipping away at the sequel to Attempted Vampirism. I expect to have it out in the next week or so. It measures in at about 85,000 words in length making it significantly longer than its predecessor. I had originally planned to have it out in late February/early March but various things happened to delay it. You can probably guess what at least one of those things was. In any case, I...

Easter Bunny

The veteran bunny paced in front of the newbies. Youve all heard the stories, but now you need to hear the facts. Australia isnt like the other places youll be going to. Oh, sure, there are bears in America, and dont even get me started on the lions in Africa, but theyve got nothing on Australia. In Australia, there isnt a single damn thing that doesnt want to kill you. Whatever doesnt have teeth and claws like daggers is probably venomous or just plain crazy.

Uh, sir, were just delivering...

Writing From Different Points Of View

One of the best things about having a group of important characters is being able to tell the story from different points of view. Not only does this allow you to tell the story more thoroughly (e.g., from the villains point of view as well as the heros) but it can also let you tell the story using different narrative voices.

If you are considering writing your story from different points of view, I think there are at least two things you should consider:

What each point of view adds to the...

An Australian Guide To Getting Toilet Paper

I really wish I could say this was a joke post, but its not. Due to the hoarding thats been going on, acquiring toilet paper has become a difficult task. It absolutely did not help that some people decided to fill entire shopping trolleys with toilet paper before the retailers finally began to enforce buying limits. I think it is equal parts unbelievable and depressing that Australia ran out of toilet paper faster than it ran out of rice or other foodstuffs.

Evidently, there are people out...

Trickster

Note: The characters in this snippet are from The Unconventional Heroes Series.

Katie fought the urge to cackle malevolently. It wouldnt do for her plan to be discovered too early. No. She had to bide her time and wait for the perfect moment to strike. Every Tricksters Day she tried to fool her master, and every Tricksters Day she failed. It was like he had the ability to see the future or something. But this year, there were other people around for her to prank.

Like Spot.

Oh, he might be a...

Quarantine Post #1

Quarantine: Day 17

Were running low on toilet paper. I might have no choice but to make another supply run. I can only hope it goes better than the last one. Twelve of us went out on that last supply run. Only seven of us made it back. Those bastards from up north have started hoarding supplies, and theyre in no mood to share. Theyve got some real firepower too. I dont know where the hell they got a grenade launcher, but I was damn lucky not to be on the wrong end of it.

Quarantine: Day 19
