Eddington You Pour, They’ll Shoot

“Why would they kill Rastilav now? Even if they suspected him, he’s too high profile. It doesn’t make sense.” I was trying to make sense of it all.

Michael was on the phone with his fiancé, breaking the news. Sam was listening to Otecko talking about motive. “With the court case, they should have kept him alive, unless they thought they would lose. If they thought that, why sue to start with?”

Sam shook his head. “I agree, but also, Rastilav may have forced the lawsuit if he thought he’d lose. It would have been a way to flush out the real threat.” He paused a minute. “You’re right, I don’t believe it either. The question is what forced them to kill him.”

Michael walked back in a half hour later, and we asked how his fiancé was. “She’s coping, but also she gave me something. Apparently her Uncle text her before he died, two words, Charles University.”

When I asked what that meant, Sam answered. “It means Michael and I are going to Prague. So are you two. How do you feel about possibly opening a branch of Stefaniak’s in a college town?”

I frowned. “Make some money, and walk into a death trap. I’ll do it, but forgive me for my lack of excitement.” Otecko laughed, and pointed at Sam and Michael. “Don’t worry Tomás. You pour, they’ll shoot, and we’ll shut them down.”

Acrylic Herdsman Rescue

This is the third version of this picture, and the first in an acrylic.  One was a sketch on a  legal pad, and the second was the digital version of it.  This last version is as different from them, as they are from each other.

The interesting thing is, what started out to be a Remington style painting, ended up being more in the style of French Impressionist.  I hope you enjoy this acrylic as much as I do.  The quick backstory is this, a little calf, scared and alone, thinks he’s lost in the cold Montana winter.  Until the Herdsman, after searching for a couple of hours, finds him.

They both make it back to a warm fire, and families that love them.  Now, they have a connection, bigger than they did before.  Our relationship with God is wonderful from the onset, but it deepens, as we snuggle in to His arm, knowing He will bring us safely through all our winter storms!

The Native Rex

Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm was written over the cross. We know it as Jesus of Nazareth, The King of the Jews, and we know that it means so much more than a monarch of a single people. What fascinated me, was the use of the word Rex, an especially Roman word.

Before there were emperors in Rome, there were kings, known by the title Rex. Yes it’s Latin for king, but it’s a title specifically identified with Rome. To me, it reflects the very poignant fact that, before Rome was, before God walked in flesh, He spoke worlds into existence, and He continues long after Rome is just a memory.

The I Am, who said He would walk in flesh to die for me, also said He would get back up in three days, and He did just that. We rejoice at the cross, not that He suffered, but that even in His grief, He was in control. Only Christ could turn a place of heartache and agony, into a command center.

For if you read the words from the cross, the soldiers react when He speaks, the people are astonished at the events of the weather, because of His death. Nature itself shakes in grief, because her King, Her Rex Eternal, had paid a miraculous price for man’s salvation, and it was finished, but He wasn’t!

Just as the cross recognized who was on it in its title, written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. We know Him as the King of Kings, and The Lord of Lords, Savior to every race, nation, and culture. We rejoice today, because we also know something the Romans learned over 2,000 years ago.

The Champion ripped asunder the transgressions of mankind, the thing that separated God from His creation, and eliminated every barrier to eternity. The last one being death itself, for even it bowed it’s knee to the King Of Eternity, The Lord Jesus!

Eddington Cream Sugar And Answers

“Before you hit me, you better hear the rest of the story. I’m afraid her Uncle’s a good actor, so good in fact, that the people in his group believes he’s on their side. The Ambassador didn’t start out in politics, he started out in intelligence, and he still is.”

I let this sink in for a minute, the guy who had beaten me up, threatened me, and everything else, wasn’t the bad guy? This didn’t seem real, or make any sense, I had to have proof.” He could tell I was trying to reconcile my bruises with his information.

“He’s been in deep cover, but he’s on your side. He couldn’t tell who was pulling his strings, the only way to find out, was to orchestrate a trap. The bait had to be good, and he’s been searching for this lure for two years.”

Otecko had taken it all in until now. “When did you meet this girl?” Michael smiled. “Last June, he found us on his own. I couldn’t believe it when he approached me two days ago. His niece isn’t included in his deal, that’s when I reached out to our guys, and Sam and I talked. Sam fast tracked everything, and now I’m here.”

I asked the next question. “What about his hit woman?” He shook his head no. “He’s on his own, one slip up, and they would kill him. That’s why he had to be careful.”

My entire view of the story had just been turned on it’s ear, but now, we had no idea who the person in back of all this was? “So what do we now? How do you find out who our main threat is?”

Michael didn’t answer, but Sam who had just walked in did. “You need coffee, because you’re not going to like what I have to tell you.” Somebody asked how he took it. “Today, cream, sugar, and some answers, Rastilav is dead.”

The Greatest Legacy

I read this morning, how one of our founding fathers, almost destroyed his legacy by worrying about it. In the last six years of his life, due to this and other factors, he altered his papers to try and reflect his importance. No, it wasn’t Washington, and no, I won’t sully the man’s name, I mention it to illustrate a point.

Legacy is important, but you don’t accomplish it through revision at the end. It’s built every day, based on our choices. The difference between redemption and revision, is that one represents a truly changed individual, while the other is only a covering. Spend your days building your legacy, through living a life of consistency, not anxiety.

Because I struggle with anxiety at times, this spoke to me. Trust in God is action, in and of itself. People make the mistake of assuming it’s inertia, or chance, it’s not. If you have looked into the heart of The One who crossed eternity, faced Calvary, and conquered death itself, then you know how active faith is.

Trust Him today, follow His will, make plans, but make them knowing that Jesus is in control. This way, at the end of your days, you won’t worry what others will think of them. You’ll know, if your life has pleased Him, that is the greatest legacy of all.
