Eddington Don’t Drink The Coffee

When Sam called me I didn’t ask how. “Did I do any permanent damage?” “No, I realized in time, though I wish you had given me a little more warning. I’m not as quick as I was. How’s the plan going?”

“Well, I’ve bought three guns, made a lot of noise, and there’s a guy following me. I drove near the university this morning and haven’t been alone since. So I’m scared out of my wits.”

“You haven’t been alone since you left Eddington. I got a call from Otecko when the police picked up the Professor’s assassin. He told me his grandson would pull something crazy after another run in.”

I was relieved more than I wanted to show, so I ignored the comment. After hitting him, he deserved to aggravate me a little, so I acted a little aggravated. Then I asked him if he could smuggle me a bulletproof vest. I didn’t care for his answer, and I wasn’t sure if he was still getting even or was serious.

“There’s no need. Somebody like the Professor won’t shoot you. He’d simply blow up the hotel. That’s why I booked a room across the street.” Then he laughed.

“I’m kidding, he can’t afford the bad publicity. He’d do something much less dramatic, like poisoning your room service. So don’t drink the coffee.”

This time he didn’t laugh, and I didn’t either. Like any good coffee shop owner, I had brought my own. Though I did run out to the local store, I needed to pick up whatever the local equivalent was to peanut butter and jelly.

Sometimes Love Is A Cough Drop

Sometimes love is as simple as a cough drop. After getting sick yesterday, I thought I had went through every cough drop in the house. Without asking, my wife looked for more through the house before bed. She didn’t find one, and I didn’t think anything more about it.

This morning when I went to get ready, one she had just found, was laying near my Bible. I adore my wife, she is more beautiful today than the day I married her. Yet, as stunning as I know she is, her heart is what beautifies everything about her.

Marriage is a beautiful creation, fashioned by a loving God. It is as carefully, and skillfully crafted as a potter shaping a fine vase. Each has its own unique shape, design, and holds something special. The funny thing is, we worry so much about circumstances, or focus on single events, but the vase always outlasts the flowers it holds.

I’m so thankful for Love, for my Wife, and the heart behind a simple act this a.m. So yes, I’ll say it once more. Sometimes love is a cough drop.

Memories Of September 11

I remember the faces walking through the dust. I remember those who risked everything to go in to save others. I remember New York, Washington, and a field in Pennsylvania. I remember America, standing together, holding each other, unified, praying while the tears fell.

Today is many years past, but those memories are still with us. We will not forget the heroic sight of those who risked death to search for any signs of life. Or those on the Pennsylvania flight that sacrificed their lives so others would be spared.

I remember two girders forming a cross in the rubble. I remember a leader, heroes, and a megaphone. I remember Old Glory being lifted high on their very sight they tried to silence her. I remember September 11. May we all remember, and never forget that we are one country, under God, indivisible, with life, and liberty, for all.
