iPainting The Man From Ireland

This is a collage of a recent portrait of The Man From Ireland. It’s taken from an actor I recently saw. It reminds me we all go through different stages of life, but can remain consistent in every season, when centered by our faith.

The Rock Garden

A short story about pouring into someone’s passion, and what it can produce.

The boy loved rocks. His Mom gave him a rock from her business trip when he was three. From then on, he started collecting. His cousins called it his rock garden, but his parents encouraged him to learn everything he could about rocks.

They did that with those things he had a real interest in. When he got to college, he minored in geology, and majored in marketing. He started his own business. The cousins laughed, “the boy with the rock garden finally grew up”, but his parents knew something they didn’t.

Mom and Dad heard the passion a little boy had, not just for his interest, but his love of sharing it with others. They we’re not raising a rock collector, they were raising a passionate person who could influence others. The name of the young new millionaire’s successful marketing firm, Share.

His logo was a rock garden, his motto, “Share your passion”, and his first big purchase? It was a rock. He gave his Mom a necklace, the setting of the diamond was engraved. “Thank you Mom, for the seeds that fill my life.”

His Dad got a car, which was the envy of his son’s cousins. His son was too humble to brag to them, but Dad was so proud of his son he did just a little. Dad ordered a special license plate, ROCKGRDN.

Sketch Mr A

I remember his voice, his talent, but I remember most his smile. Mr A is a legend, and this is a little simple sketch of him quietly sitting. Some people are so eloquent, they speak volumes in silence.

This Day In History

On this day Chaim Weizmann became the first President of Israel. What do Michael Jordan, Lou Diamond Phillips, Larry the Cable Guy, and Richard Karen (Al from Home Improvement) have in common? They were all born on this day. On this day, the first ship passed through the Suez Canal.

What will you and I do, on this day in history? Instead of viewing it as, just another Wednesday, what if today becomes a milestone for the rest of our lives? What that event is for you, I don’t know, but I do know this. When you properly invest in greatness, you harvest the expectations.

All the events from the first paragraph took days, months, and years to accomplish, but they all began on a day. Whether today is your start, your triumphant celebration, I would encourage us not to treat it as just another day. Look for some way to help someone today, every day, in the service of others, is a day to be celebrated.

Onesimus

Philemon 1:13-14 (ESV)

13 I would have been glad to keep him with me, in order that he might serve me on your behalf during my imprisonment for the gospel,

14 but I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own accord.

Today is recognized as the day to honor Onesimus. He is a convert of Paul, the subject of Paul’s letter to Philemon, and according to history, the Pastor of Ephesus after Timothy. The two verses above, point out something so wonderful about all involved.

Paul mentions doing, not by compulsion, or necessity, but by consent. The topic struck me so strongly, as you can see it in all three men’s lives. While God got Paul’s attention on the way to Damascus, Paul wholeheartedly chose to follow God with all his heart. Onesimus chose to carry the epistle back to Philemon, not knowing the outcome ahead of time.

The last of the three, Philemon was presented with a choice. Punish the slave, or embrace the brother. While we don’t have record in Scripture of the choice he made, I believe he made the right one. History indicates Philemon was also martyred, as Paul and Onesimus. I believe a man who would give his life for the cause of Christ, would embrace the brother returned to him.

We all have a choice as a Christian, beyond salvation. When you choose to follow Jesus, we are choosing life over death, salvation, and eternal hope. When we choose to follow him wholeheartedly, we are embracing not only our destiny, but an adventure as you can only experience in God.

We don’t just have a hope, we have a lively hope. So today, I would encourage you, to consent to committing passionately to The God we serve. Knowing that a life totally committed to The Lord Jesus, is a life fully lived!

Love, Sharing,Giving, And Growing

Before Valentine’s Day, before the Roman Empire, before Abraham, God created Adam a bride named Eve. God’s definition of relationship began with the fact that we were made for each other. When you allow God to lead you in your search, you don’t just find a partner, you find the one that will complete you.

This Valentine’s Day Ashley’s and I hold God, each other, Nicholas, and all those who helped along the way in our hearts. Your journey is never meant to only be about the two of you, but who the two of you can serve in your lives together. Love is always about sharing, giving, and growing.
