A conversation with my nephew Luke sparked the inspiration behind this watercolor portrait of Benjamin Franklin.

Flying To Phoenix

On March 12, 2019 we boarded a plane to Phoenix, Arizona to be there for the birth of our son. We were excited, and trusting God, but nervous. Ashley and I were wondering what would happen next, and willing to do whatever it took to meet our son.
This morning our little boy was awake at four something this morning, not knowing we were up very early a few years earlier. This morning we were a little too sleepy to realize what day it was, but I remember it well now. That day, as well as today, we ended up at Walmart.
Only that Wal-Mart seemed like a world away. So did the hotel we ended up at. The place we were supposed to stay was not what we expected, but we ended up exactly where we should be. Ironically it was the Holiday Inn, no Bing Crosby but it was a gift to us that day.
This same place would be where we would spend the last week with Nick before flying home, literally a month later. So much happened that day and month, our lives changed for the better. What we didn’t realize is how The Lord had prepared us for that time.
Please don’t misunderstand, as parents we were scared to death, but God had put so many people in our lives to hold us in their prayers. Ashley’s Mom came with us and helped care for her baby girl while she waited for her baby boy. Of course we didn’t know whether it would be a boy or a girl, we hoped for a boy, but didn’t know.
Now our days are filled with the miraculous laughing, learning, and loving. Hearing Mommy and Daddy are literally treasures more valuable than we could have ever imagined. In 2019 we flew to Phoenix, in 2022 were still flying high with our boy!

I wanted to share the second image to show that a picture doesn’t always go the way you expect, but if you keep going you’ll get there in the end. #Batman
The Orange Cow And The Green Rooster – A Children’s Story

There was once an orange cow. Have you ever seen an orange cow? The cow grew up thinking it was a white and brown cow? Then one day, when standing in front of the sunrise, it realized it was an orange cow.
She started telling people that she was an orange cow. One day, the green rooster looked at her and laughed. “Silly cow, you’re white and brown like me. When the sun shines on you, it shares it’s light with you, and you reflect the sun.”
She thought for a minute. At first, she wanted to feel sad, and embarrassed, but then she saw something. The cow had seen it the first day, but hadn’t paid much attention to it. When the light hit her, it also hit the tree by the fence. It was an orange tree.
The cow ignored the rooster, and walked over to the orange tree. She knocked three or four oranges off the tree, and went home. The next morning, when the sun rose, and the rooster got up to crow. He saw something new.
The cow was standing near the fence, in front of the sunrise, but behind her orange juice stand. The sign said, Orange Cow Juice, Fifty Cents a glass. All of the barn animals, and even the farmer, lined up for fresh orange juice. The Orange Cow fulfilled her dreams, she was the Orange Cow now, and the rooster left feeling green with envy.
The Orange Cow didn’t want him to feel bad, so she gave him some orange juice for free. The rooster thanked her, and the two became friends. Whether you’re an Orange Cow, or a Green Rooster, you can put aside your differences, and become the best of friends!
