Farmers Have Fun (Yes, Really!)

Farmers work hard. So it’s nice to know our food is grown and raised with a sense of humor. Our favorite farmer at Lindenhof Farms wore this smile with his turkey hat at the outdoor market last weekend. I have to say, the hat added another reason to enjoy our visit.

We stocked up on Lindenhof’s fresh made chicken pot pies. The farm grows and raises the vegetables and chicken for the filling and a local woman makes the pie pastry. OMG. The best, ever. And no GMOs, preservatives, hormones or additives. Yummy and healthy!

“You’re quiet all of a sudden,” Trey said.

Except for the crickets, katydids, footfalls and sounds of horse’s hooves, the country night was still. She must have given him a vibe about the decision weighing on her mind, because Trey was usually comfortable with silence. He freed his arm from hers, rubbed a hand down her spine, and made little circles with his fingertips on the small of her back. The intimate gesture raised goose bumps over her skin, yet warmed her from the inside.

“I’ve been thinking,” she said. “There’s something I want to talk to you about.”

The moon had risen, and beneath its glow and the light of a billion stars, Trey’s brow furrowed. “Sounds serious.”

Daisy nodded. “Something I want to run by you.”

Trey pressed his hand more tightly to her back. “Then I want to hear about it. Let’s take care of Big Blue and eat supper. We can relax and talk and then decorate the tree. As it happens, I have something I want to discuss with you too.”

A Visit to Wellington Square Bookshop, Exton

I found Wellington Square Bookshop in Exton, PA by accident. Turns out, it’s the #1 rated bookshop of its kind in the Philadelphia region, which makes finding it a happy accident. The independent bookstore is beautifully decorated, yet provides that cozy feeling readers like me look for.

My adventure began when my husband and I went to our favorite farmer’s market in the Exton Towne Center to buy our usual meats, pasta, sweets, fruits and vegetables. Author and food blogger Marisa McClellan made an appearance to demonstrate homemade pear and chocolate jam and promote her new book Preserving by the Pint. Marisa was clearly knowledgeable and her recipe tasted delicious. (We gladly enjoyed the samples.) Wellington Square Bookshop hosted the event, so hubby and I visited the store afterward. We were greeted by a friendly staff member who also helped me with my book purchases. If you live in southeastern Pennsylvania, or plan to visit the area, stop by the Towne Center in Exton for its quaint shops and restaurants.

DELICIOUS FALL APPLES, Photos

We had a wonderful visit to Highland Orchards in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

I took a break after a busy release week for my new book NATURALLY YOURS and relaxed with my husband at Highland Orchards, a crown jewel of Chester County, Pennsylvania. People travel from around the state to pick their own apples and other fruits or to buy them direct from the Highland market. The staff bakes pies, cakes, breads, and their signature apple cider donuts every day. (I especially like to eat the apple cider donuts while they’re still warm.) They offer a wide variety of homemade jams, preserves, butters, relishes and more. Take a hay ride, visit the children’s zoo, or walk the corn maze. Well worth the stop. I gotta’ say; I love living in my home state.
