Merry, Merry, Happy Holidays!

We celebrate Christmas at our house, and it’s always a special time of year for us. This year is even more special with the addition of our first grandchild. We added his stocking to the hearth and his Grandbaby’s First Christmas ornament to the tree and have his highchair ready at the dining table. I haven’t been this excited about Christmas since my own children were little.

I wish you and your family all the best for a wonderful holiday season and a happy, prosperous New Year. Thank you for following my blog and for reading my books. I can hardly wait to tell you about new publishing contracts and new releases through 2015 and beyond.

Chocolate Peppermint Margarita Recipe. Mmm!

Chocolate Peppermint Margarita: Posted with permission from Sauza Tequila.

Here’s a simple recipe for a delicious adult holiday beverage. The candy canes add a festive touch.

Ingredients: Serves 4

2 parts Sauza® Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila*

1 part Peppermint Schnapps

1 ½ cups milk

4 tbsp. hot chocolate powder

2 candy canes

*If Sauza® Blue Silver isn’t available, try Sauza® Silver

To Make:

In a shaker filled with ice, combine all ingredients and shake. Pour into your most festive glasses and garnish with a candy cane. Enjoy!

Easy Keepsake Christmas Crafts

The greatest event in my personal life in 2014 was the birth of my first grandchild. He’s the light of my life and the center of his parents’ world, and that’s how it should be. In the spirit of loving the child and celebrating his first Christmas, my daughter created paintings on canvas for her home and mine, using imprints of her infant’s hands and feet. The nose on the reindeer was made with his thumb! We will treasure these keepsakes for many years.

   

I loved the pictures they created so much that I took photographs and added text on Photoshop. The results are digital Christmas cards for my readers, friends, and followers from my family to yours. I hope you like these digital cards, because I made them with you in mind. “)

Perhaps you’d like to create holiday keepsakes like these with your children. Though you can use paper, my daughter bought pre-cut canvas and non-toxic paint from the craft shop. The canvas will last for decades, preserving our memories of baby’s first Christmas.

Chocolate and Wine Tasting at Chaddsford Winery

OMG, I had no idea wine tasted great with chocolate! All my life I thought wine was meant for salty foods like cheese and crackers or as a delicious beverage with dinner. Boy, was I missing out! I need a subscription to Wine Spectator.

I took a day off from writing to celebrate the completion of another manuscript (Yay!) and visited the Chaddsford Winery in Chadds Ford, PA. Hubby and I did something completely new and fun with the winery’s “Wine and Chocolate Tasting” event. It’s not every day we give ourselves permission to drink seven kinds of wine, each paired with a specific piece of chocolate to complement the flavors, so on this day we were all in!

Who knew a light, crisp white wine paired well with dark chocolate butter creams; that sweet and spicy apple wine tasted great with milk chocolate maple creams; or a semi-sweet red needed milk chocolate caramel? Mmmm.

I’d like to know whose job it is to sip wine and nibble chocolate and pair them for wine tasting events. Sign me up for that job, please!

My favorite wines were the chilled Proprietors Reserve White (light, crisp, and clean. Perfect for sipping while cooking dinner) and the Spiced Apple, served warm. We bought bottles of  both and will serve the Spiced Apple at our Thanksgiving table. I think it will be the best wine we’ve ever offered our holiday guests.

We enjoyed our afternoon wine tasting event and will definitely visit again.

I love my home state of Pennsylvania. There’s so much to see and do here!
