“What I found absorbing, what caught me up unaware was the power of this writer to translate Native American experience without once falling into any subtle sense of stereotyping.”
“An absorbing and satisfyingly complex tale.”

Excerpt from The Lost Girls
A couple of contests to win ebooks are going on that you might want to enter:
On my new Nanowrimo project, I am at 40,000 words. Coming along nicely!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules at Books and a Beat. Anyone can play along.
I am currently reading The Lost Girls (Book #2 in The Suburban Murder Series) by Alexa Steele. Child sex trade/human trafficking is one of the issues near and dear to my heart, a theme that repeats a number of times throughout my own books. This is a gritty story that can be difficult to read. This quote is on a lighter note. Detective Bella de Franco views vacation as more of a punishment than a privilege:
Only place I go when I’m not working is into my own head. That’s why it’s no fun.
The Lost Girls, Alexa Steele
The brutally beaten body of a young girl is discovered in a marsh in Jamesport, one of New York’s most elite suburbs. Police comb the area, while many speculate her murder might be connected to the abduction, six months earlier, of three girls from Jamesport. The FBI has evidence of an underage prostitution and trafficking ring which may be related. At the request of the FBI, Billy Dee, captain of the Ninth Precinct in the Bronx, head of its Sex Crimes Unit, sends two of his most seasoned detectives to Jamesport to conduct their own investigation: Bella de Franco and Jimmy “Mack” Menendez. They are sent north, back into the land of the beautiful.

Between local politics, fractured families, a heroin epidemic and a dark secret that the wealthy town strives to keep hidden, the unspeakably dark and twisted reality lurking behind Jamesport life is uncovered. Nanowrimo started today, so once this post is up, I am off to the races on my newest manuscript. Take a peek at what I’m doing!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules at Books and a Beat. Anyone can play along.
I read Paper in the Wind: Peeling back the lifespan of autism in the wake of tragedy by Olivia Mason-Charles a couple of weeks ago, but it has stuck with me, so I’ll post a teaser this week.
One Sunday morning, I was walking up the stairs when Alexa said, “Dada.” I damn near passed out. When I regained my senses, I grabbed her and ran down the stairs so fast. I was half way to the ice cream store before I realized that I was barefoot and in my pajamas. I did not care. My daughter had said, “Dada.” I was freaking out!
Paper in the Wind, Olivia Mason-Charles
Paper in the Wind is a compassionate and riveting story depicting a single father’s dedication to his daughter. In the midst of the overwhelming struggles that accompanied autism, he continues to persevere. Her father’s love enabled her to overcome insurmountable obstacles, discovered the power of love and embraced the gift of life.

Tattooed Teardrops now available in audiobook! Act now to get a free copy
Tattooed Teardrops, winner of the Top Fiction award in the In the Margins Best Books for Teens 2016, is now available on audio, read by Keylor Leigh. I had a hard time finding just the right narrator for Tamara’s voice, but Keylor fit the bill.
For a limited time, I am offering copies of Tattooed Teardrops for free through Audible. If you want to get a copy, email me before all the free copies are gone!
A realistic and beautiful story filled with suspense, heartbreaking friendship and loyalty award-winning author P.D. Workman’s brings you the intriguing story of Tamara’s struggle to make a life for herself after her incarceration. But things aren’t going to be easy.
I don’t plan on getting in any trouble.
Tamara had thought that when she got out of juvie, things would be easier. But before long, it seems like her life is spiraling into chaos.
If she can’t prove to her probation officer that she is innocent of the allegations against her, she’s going back to prison, and Tamara just can’t let that happen.
Praise for Tattooed Teardrops
—For me, a sign of a good book is that it is a quick read, holds my interest front to back and I like the characters. This book met the mark on all three of those characteristics.
—A slimy villain, an eager-to-please side-kick and a heroine who simply wants to move on from her past make for an intriguing tale, indeed! A realistic and beautiful story filled with suspense, heartbreaking friendship and loyalty that will keep you reading until the very end.
—This book is refreshingly bold
—That was an amazing book…I couldn’t stop reading it! It took me about two days to read it and I ended up staying up late on a school night! Oh well, it was totally worth it! Thank you!
—Absolutely amazing, I just want to keep reading!
—No words, just pure happiness.
—I found myself rooting for [Tamara] all the way to the end.
Praise for P.D. Workman

Ruby, Between the Cracks is still free at the Kindle store and other ebook retailers. I am getting excited about publishing book four in the Between the Cracks series in January. Chloe is a heart-wrenching story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I have just started reading After the Storm: A Kate Burkholder Novel by Linda Castillo. It’s a bit of a mashup with a female detective, a natural disaster, and a cold case murder in a Pennsylvania Dutch Amish community. I’m having fun with it so far! See if this grabs you:
He tugged a long plank from the collapsed floor, when something round and white rolled out from beneath it. At first, Josh thought it was a rock, but it was a little too round and rolled easily. Too light to be a rock. Definitely not a soccer ball. Dropping the plank, he walked over to it and knelt, rolling the thing over with his hand.
After the Storm, Linda Castillo
When a tornado tears through Painters Mill and unearths human remains, Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is tasked with the responsibility of identifying the bones and notifying the family. When evidence emerges that the death was no accident, Kate soon finds herself plunged into a thirty-year-old case that takes her deep into the Amish community to which she once belonged.
Meanwhile, turmoil strikes close to home as Kate’s budding relationship with state agent John Tomasetti reaches the breaking point. Can they weather the storm that threatens to tear them apart? Under siege from an unknown assailant―and her own personal demons―Kate digs deep into the case only to discover proof of an unimaginable atrocity, a plethora of family secrets and the lengths to which people will go to protect their own.
