Author’s note: This is a one-shot. Is setting during season 3B after Stiles got possessed by the Nogitsune.
I wrote this on Valentine’s day and posted on my old account (so it was deleted) I’m reposting it and I edited a few things.
Enjoy.
“No way” Stiles was sitting on his bed playing flappy bird (or at least trying to).
“Come on! It’ll be fun!” Scott was trying to convince his best friend for the third time during this day. “It’s just a party.”
“Just a party? Just a― It’s Valentine’s Day! It’s a Valentine’s freaking party! For people who actually have a valentine.” Stiles tried to justify his feelings about this particular day. But his best friend was so into taking him to the party that he was getting very convincing, almost making Stiles buying it.
“Everyone is going.” Scott gave him a big smile. Stiles avoided looking at him and instead he looked at his lame score in the game.
“If for ‘everyone’ you mean Lydia and Aidan, Allison and Isaac and you a Kira, yeah, it’ll be so much fun! Me and myself as always!”
“I’m sure there’ll be more people. You can find a date.” Stiles gave him the biggest bitchface he could make.
“Yeah, in a party full of couples. On Valentine’s Day.”
“Just come out of the house for a while. I’m worried about you.” Scott was looking at him with such big puppy eyes Stiles couldn’t resist anymore and just sighed and gave him a forced ‘yes’.
The party was exactly what Stiles had expected. Full of mushy couples, romantic music and even food decorated with hearts and arrows. He was sitting far from the dance floor, eating something that was much sweeter that he had imagined. He wasn’t sad about this day. He was happy that all his friends had found love. He was sad about him becoming something he would never think of. The presence of a demon inside him made him think he was weak and a bit evil too. The dark spirit had chosen him for a reason after all. Maybe his personality, covering his sadness with sarcasm and jokes, made him weak. And his intelligence made him powerful enough for a dark kitsune to choose him as a host. For some reason the demonic Japanese entity has been under control for a couple of days. Maybe gathering forces for something bigger. Something Stiles was afraid of think about. At least it had given him time to rest. To be with his friends and dad for a while. Kind of like a ‘last meal’ thing. To spend some quality time with his beloved friends before the storm hit him. He was so into his thoughts he didn’t notice the presence of the dark-haired guy sitting next to him until he hit the table with his glass. Derek Hale was looking at him with a really weird look. Something between judgmental and concern.
“What?” asked Stiles after a few uncomfortable seconds. “Do I have something on my face?”
“You have chocolate on your teeth, but that’s not why I’m here.” Derek’s eyes were fixed on him and Stiles was wondering if he can see the evil spirit inside his body.
“So you came for the party,” Stiles tried to make the moment less like an observational study. “You came here with a date or are you trying to hit on the bachelors? Oh I know! You are the chaperone!”
“Very funny,” Derek managed to show him an ironic smile. “Scott told me to look after you.”
“You don’t have to literally look at me directly, you know.” Stiles looked towards the dance floor, where his best friend was dancing with Kira. “You can go back to being the creepy werewolf who stares at the distance.” Scott gave him a look that apparently said ‘just roll with it bro’ and Stiles understood his plan immediately.
“He’s concern about you.” Derek drank something while watching the pack have fun for a night. “And so is everyone.”
“Even you?” Stiles didn’t look straight to Derek when he said those words.
“Well,” Derek’s voice was weak, “I am.”
“Who are you? Most of the time you hate me to death.” Stiles couldn’t believe what the werewolf has said.
“Most of the time I found you annoying.” Derek’s eyes were fixed on him again. “But I don’t hate you. I’ve saved your life many times.”
“And I’ve saved yours.” Stiles gave a bite to another brownie keeping a straight face as much as he could.
“I’m serious. You aren’t yourself lately.”
“How do you know I haven’t been myself?” Stiles’ voice trembled a bit.
“I know how you are when you are you.” Derek’s eyes were full of concern and staring at Stiles’ expression.
“Great choice of words,” said Stiles.
“Shut up. I’m serious. I know how you look when you’re happy. And I know you’re scared now.”
Suddenly Stiles didn’t want brownies anymore. He wanted to run out of there and be alone. His mind was twisting between ideas of what would happen when he lose himself again. What would happen when he die because of his mother’s diseases (the same one he has now), and what would happen when he stopped being Stiles and became a Nogitsune and kill everyone he cares about. He felt sick.
“Stiles?” Derek’s voice brought him back to reality. “Are you alright?”
There was a crushed brownie in Stiles’ hand and he had stand up for no reason. He caught Scott’s worried face over the crowd. He also noticed Isaac, Allison and Lydia’s concerned eyes. Stiles sat down again and cleaned his hand. Derek has been looking at him for far too long now. “I’m ok, Derek. Stop staring at me. I’m not your pray. Go and hunt bunnies or something.” Stiles’ voice sounded irritated.
“I’m not going anywhere.” The werewolf took his hands and looked directly into his eyes. “We are not going to lose sight on you again.”
Stiles couldn’t believe was he was listening. Derek had changed during that trip to somewhere (he didn’t remember where exactly. He was too busy looking at Derek’s eyes, nose and lips. Too perfect.)
“So, I’m your Valentine for this night, huh?” Stiles managed to give him a smile and Derek just rolled his eyes.
“What make you think I’ll choose you as a valentine?”
“You have a tendency on choosing psychopathic partners that recently died. I think I fit the description.” The silence between them was to big that Stiles thought the music had stopped.
“You are not going to die.” Derek tried so hard to make him realize he wasn’t alone in this.
“How do you know? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure I’ll die from an untreatable diseases or by a Japanese demon fox.”
“You are not going to die because I’m going to do everything to keep you alive.” Stiles was speechless (something very difficult to do) and he couldn’t stop his urge of jumping at Derek and hug him. But, hug Derek? Really? He could rip his throat with his teeth if he wanted too. Instead of that, he did something even more risky and crazy. He kissed him. Now he was pretty sure he was going to die. Derek looked at him with such surprise he was sure he was going to hit him in the face. Stiles closed his eyes waiting for the punch, but instead he felt Derek’s lips over his. That was the weirdest sensation he had felt during his young life. He thought for some time he could be gay and, after the last party he went, he knew he could like girls and boys at the same time. He never thought kissing Derek Hale will made that clear for him. But, at the same time, he was kissing Derek Hale in front of people. Stiles moved away and saw Derek smiling.
“Alright,” said Derek. “You can be my valentine.”
“Only if I keep only the ‘psychopathic’ part of your date’s type.” Stiles felt happy. After weeks of feeling weak, sleepy, afraid and alone. He was happy and was because of Derek.
“I’ll keep you safe so you won’t fit the full description.” Derek kissed him again and Stiles managed a smile and gave him time to finally rest from his thoughts.
He opened his eyes again and he was alone. Darkness was filling the room. He didn’t remember how he got there. Stiles looked around for his friends. There wasn’t any sign of them, or Derek. Fear started to struggle him.
“Did you enjoy your last day?” A voice sounded at the back of his head. “Did you say good bye?”
“No,” whispered Stiles, “not again!”
“Keep the lovely feeling with the werewolf near your heart,” the voice crept in his ears. “That was the last time you felt happiness.”
Stiles was shaking. He had lost it again. The demon was taking control of him. He couldn’t say anything to Scott or Derek. He was alone in this nightmare. He remembered Derek’s lips pressed against his and he cried, trying to keep that feeling alive.
“So you did enjoy my illusion,” the Nogitsune’s voice was coming out of his mouth now.
Stiles tears rolled down his cheeks. It was a lie. His kiss with Derek had been a lie.
“Now,” the dark spirit managed to make him smile. A twisted and psychotic smile. “Let’s prepare for the upcoming storm.”
