Rejoice
The penance of this year is the hardest one that I have ever carried as I failed to stay away from social media during this Lent. I have done many different penances during Lenten seasons in the past. I am addicted to caffeine and determined to stop drinking coffee during Lent many years ago. At that time, my husband and I had our anniversary trip to Ireland. The good smell of Irish coffee at the hotel restaurant tempted me every morning during our visit. But, I was successful not to break my commitment. Couple years ago, I stopped watching TV drama as my penance during that Lent as I have been addicted to Korean drama. I was suffering without TV for more than 40 days.
This year Lent penance is more challenging as we live in a modern technology era where everybody can reach anyone regardless where they are. We need to have a strong will to follow Jesus as the modern era temptation is hard to ignore, unlike the time of a caveman when people lived in a cave and no problem without communication devices. The penance during Lent is only for a short time, yet we sometimes fail to follow. How we obey God in our daily lives is more important than penance during Lent that's the challenge. May we have a firm foundation and will to follow Jesus example to obey God's will. Happy Easter! Rejoice in His resurrection!
