Kindle's Pre-order Nightmare

I have good news and I have bad news. First the good news, Queer Dirty Laundry is now available on Amazon/Kindle as of today, June 11th. That's right, the full book is up and running and ready to be downloaded. The paperback version is also available.

Now the bad news, Kindle users who bought the pre-order purchase of Queer Dirty Laundry WILL NOT automatically receive the new update of the full book. I have been at war with Amazon/Kindle Direct, but sadly I have lost. They refuse to automatically send the update out. BUT don't fret, there's a couple solutions:

This only applies to Kindle users that bought the Queer Dirty Laundry: Kindle Pre-order Purchase. iBooks, Google Play, and Nook pre-orders are fine.

     1. If you bought the pre-order purchase you can obtain your full copy of the book, by requesting it from Kindle support. I tested this and had a friend test it. It's very easy:

--On your Kindle device, choose "help" or go to http://www.amazon.com/kindlesupport               --Next, click on "contact us" It may ask for your amazon login material.               --Next, Select the issue "Kindle Device"               --Next, Select issue details "Something else"               --Under "Enter short summary of issue" type: I pre-ordered a book and didn't receive the update.               --Next, Choose how you want to be contacted: Email, Phone, or Live ChatI chose "Live Chat" and it took 2 minutes. All you have to do is give them the title: Queer Dirty Laundry and say you did not receive the current update. They will send the updated version to your Kindle or Kindle Reading App.
     2. If you don't want to deal with Kindle support, you can obtain the full copy from me:               --In the back of your Queer Dirty Laundry: Kindle Pre-order Purchase, there's a disclaimer that reads: If you do not receive the update by 6-13-2014, please email the publisher and they will personally send you the Kindle Mobi file. Use the email address provided and I will send you the file. Once you have the file you can put it on your Kindle. In most cases it's easy, by just opening the attachment in the email. If you're on a phone or tablet using the Kindle Reading App it may ask, "Open in" and then just chose the Kindle Reading App.
     3. Another option is just to repurchase the updated edition, but why would you do that when you already purchased it? Queer Dirty Laundry will stay at 99 cents until June 13th.
I am terribly sorry for this inconvenience! Kindle/Amazon released the book early so Kindle users could obtain their copies before the launch date, since requesting it takes time.

This is the reason they refuse to send out the automatic update even though I argued with them it doesn't matter: "When a book undergoes significant changes any customer receiving an updated version can no longer view any highlights, bookmarks, or notes that they made and they lose their fullest reading location in the book."
Again I am so sorry for the inconvenience. Please don't hate me lol. If you have any questions, please email me at: JasonLloydWriter@gmail.com
For future book releases, I will not be doing any type of Pre-order thing through Amazon/Kindle. This issue will never happen again. For the next book, Filthy Fibbers (coming Fall 2014) I promise I will make it up to Kindle users with something special.
Thank you for your understanding and I hope you enjoy Queer Dirty Laundry!

Queer Town Abbey's Author Interview with Jason Lloyd

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?I grew up in a small town called Upper Black Eddy in Pennsylvania. It’s about 45 miles north of Philadelphia. We lived in an old farmhouse with a lot of land until I was about twelve, then my family moved to Center Valley, which was closer to Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton areas. In high school, I wrote all the time. I kept journals with short stories and poems in them. I wish I still had those journals now. It would be interesting to go back through them. I always felt like I was a creative individual, so my main focus in high school became art.In college, I studied Graphic Design and Business. I had my own Graphic Design business for a few years after I graduated. I actually design my own cover art for my books.I rediscovered my love for the written word after I was laid off from my full time job. I was hanging out with my friend at a bar and we were having a funny conversation about guys, being gay, relationships, sex, and he said to me “You need to write this shit down!” I created a blog a week later out of boredom until I found another job. The next year my blog started to take off. It was nominated for The Best of Gay Philadelphia, under the category Best Gay Website/Blog. I was in shock. I didn’t know people would be that interested in my life and point of view.I had numerous fans of the blog, write me and say that I needed to write a book. I tinkered around with the idea, but did not come up with a clear concept until six months after my friends and I took a beach vacation to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. After I wrote three blog posts about our experience in Rehoboth and I saw how fans of the blog enjoyed them, I realized then that I had the concept for my first book, Salty Aftertaste.Salty Aftertaste was published in September 2013, almost two months after my friends and I had gotten back from vacation in Rehoboth for the second time! About five months later it ended up in the Smashwords Best Seller List in the Gay & Lesbian fiction category. For Salty Aftertaste’s first anniversary I am planning to reveal a new book cover and format for the book. Since it was my first book it was a huge learning experience for me and I want to go back and improve on things. What do you do when you are not writing? When I can manage to tear myself away from my computer screen, I try to get together with my friends. On occasion I do enjoy going out to clubs, restaurants, or other social events with them. My friends are very entertaining. It’s never a bore. Lately things have been low key because of work and schedules. I’m having a love affair with my Netflix, so a nice quiet night with some movies and wine is also awesome. What’s the best thing about being an author? My favorite part is connecting with people. If I made you laugh, cry, or say, “Oh. My. God.” I know I did my job. The whole point in wanting to be an author is creating something you hope that your reader will enjoy.

Jason Lloyd's New Book: Queer Dirty Laundry

Interview with Jason Lloyd by SmashwordsYour first book Salty Aftertaste has been out since September, how did it feel to publish your first book? It's been an amazing experience. In a lot of ways a lifelong dream came true. It has also been a huge learning experience for myself. I learned so much about publishing, marketing and writing in general. With anything that's new there's always a few mistakes to be made and now that I have dealt with those mistakes, I feel that the process will be smoother for my next book. When people hear the title "Salty Aftertaste" they often laugh. What's the story behind the title?Well... The title has many meanings; there's the obvious funny "sexual" innuendo and because the story is set at the beach, the whole "salty" sea water thing. But what some people don't realize is there's a deeper meaning behind the title. When you think of a "salty aftertaste" sometimes it's a good aftertaste, but sometimes it's a bad aftertaste, depending on what you just ate. The same thing could be said for experiences you go through, sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad. Every experience stays with you, just like an aftertaste. The book is about the experiences the characters go through and they are both good and bad. What will your next book be about? My next book is call Queer Dirty Laundry and it's loosely based on my blog by the same name. It's a "coming of age" tale about the main character. Bullying, coming out and first time experiences will all be covered. It of course will be funny, have some drama, and a few "hot" moments too. The story is set in present time with flashbacks to the past. I'm really excited about it and I think everyone will be able to relate to some of the experiences mentioned. When will the book be available to purchase? As of right now I am still working on a manuscript. My goal is to have it done by summer 2014. I think it will be available as a preorder in May in the iBooks store and then launched everywhere a few weeks after that. Actual dates haven't been determined yet.So fans of Salty Aftertaste will enjoy this new book?Yes! There will be some familiar characters in this one. Jason and Kevin are back along with some new interesting characters. Obviously the book is going to be filled with crude humor just like Salty, and I'm hoping it will be a fun read. I actually think fans of Salty will like Queer Dirty Laundry better.Last question, what motivated you to become an indie author?I was approached by a few publishers, but the offers did not seem to fit, so I turned them down. I like the fact that I have complete creative control over my work. Some people don't realize I also design all my book covers. I consider myself a very creative person and I enjoy the whole creative process. If a publishing deal ever felt right I would consider working with them, but for now I'm happy being an indie author and I enjoy the indie community. Indie authors are a very supporting group of people.

Salty Aftertaste 2nd Edition

As of December 23, 2013 there is an updated version of Salty Aftertaste. Why the update, you ask? Well, during the editing process there were a few minor mistakes I wanted to correct and as I went back through the book I added a few things. It ended up creating additional 4 pages of contents. If you already have read Salty Aftertaste, don't worry, the changes were very minor.

One noticeable change is the E-book cover. I changed the E-book cover to match the print edition cover. After receiving feedback from multiple fans, they all said they preferred the print cover over the original E-book cover. I hope you like the cover change.

The original E-book cover art is now a title page right before the story begins.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I receive the new update of Salty Aftertaste?

If you have already purchased the E-book, most E-readers, Apps, and other devices, will automatically update to the new edition. Certain readers you may have to remove it (or archive it) from your device and then place it back on. Contact your retailer for solutions. Most cases it is very simple. If for some reason you haven't had any luck obtaining the new edition, please email me at JasonLloydBooks@gmail.com and we come up with a solution.

How will I know if I have the updated edition on my device?

The E-book cover art will look like this:

New Cover

Old Cover

Other noticeable differences; it says, "Second Edition" right after the copyright information and the old E-book cover art is a title page right before the Prologue.

I have the Print Edition of Salty Aftertaste. Is there an updated version for the Print Edition? And can I receive an update?

The print edition has been updated to match the E-book edition, but sadly the updates for the print version are not free. Printing is expensive. There were only limited copies of the 1st version of the book printed to begin with. (E-books sell better than paperback) If you own a copy then you are one of the few lucky people to have the original version!

I personally own a few copies of the original version. If anyone would like an autographed copy of the 1st edition, I have them for $7.00. At this time I can only ship to U.S.A. Email me at JasonLloydBooks@gmail.com for more information. Payments are made through PayPal.

I don't own a copy of Salty Aftertaste. How do I obtain one?

***Until February 1, 2014 Salty Aftertaste E-book edition is on SALE for $0.99!
After 2/1/2014 the list price will go back to $2.99

New Reviews"A fun and fast-paced read that I very much enjoyed from beginning to end. I tagged along on vacation with Jason and his adorable guy and gal friends for a week of lounging on Poodle Beach, seeing the sites (barely dressed hot lads, mostly) and crazy bar hopping. I could smell the sun tan lotion and feel the brutal hangovers. Jason's longing for true love and his devotion to his friends shines brightest. Strongly recommended for lots of laughs and "awws" and "wows" and many head-shaking smiles. And for creepy Crazy Rob." -JP Kenwood, Author

"In this very delightful book, Jason Lloyd takes us to an incredibly sexy and funny adventure in the streets, clubs, beaches and dark places of Rehoboth. The many encounters of that gaggle of LGBT people, whether they are sexual or not, give us an amazingly large sample of the gay spectrum for the better and the worse. But one thing is for sure the whole story is fun to read, insightful, hot, and sexy. This book will keep you awake because you won't be able to close it. The characters are adorable and I just want one thing… the sequel! Yes, it's THAT good!" -J Lecoeur
