High School Reunion
Last month, DeeAnn and I traveled to Southern California to visit family and friends, and while we were there I also caught up with two of my high school teachers: Kathy Jensen and David Spaid.

They’re both retired from teaching now, and have been for a few years. Kathy taught choir (I joined senior year), and was also the choral director for our spring musicals (Fiddler on the Roof was my first; Guys and Dolls was my last). David taught freshman English, and also sponsored...

Space Remixes
It’s been a good long while since I documented one of my random research spirals, but this one was pretty interesting.
While catching up on my Instagram friends today, I saw this intriguing background on Aaron Duran‘s laptop screen:

I wasn’t the only one who thought it was a cool pic:

Since Aaron helpfully provided attribution, it was easy to find his source:

And since the artist included their name in the lowe...

My Norwescon 42 Schedule
It’s less than a month until Easter, and therefore just about a month until Norwescon! Here’s where you can find me then:
Friday (4/19) – it’s all about MEWriting Class: Dialogue, She Wrote with Curtis Chen
Cascade 13
11:30am–1pm
More than one editor has accused me of writing “good-ass banter,” and I’m okay with that. Many writers struggle with writing natural speech (reality is no excuse for fiction) or having characters talk their way out of trouble (looking at you, Scalzi!). We can also get...

Are You Curious About My Fictions?
NOT IN A CREEPY WAY tho. Wow, I really am terrible at post titles.
Here’s the deal: I’m now set up as an author on Curious Fictions, a new site for connecting writers and readers. You can follow me to read public posts in which I expound on storytelling (kind of like this blog, but different), and subscribers can read my classic stories (read: reprints) which are not available anywhere else online. Such a deal!

The first story I’ve made available to CF subscribers is “Somebody’s Daughter,” a...

New Year, New Blog
As you can see, I finally bit the bullet and joined everyone in the 21st century with a WordPress “journal” (which sounds classier than “blog” and I’m classy af). I’ve imported everything from my old blog and it seems to have gone reasonably well. Stay tuned for more content here, and hopefully more often!
