All Good Things… or rather All Goodreads

At the time of this writing, there are 221 entrants into the giveaway of my book, Reviewer-Focused Grant Writing: Making the Vision Plain So the Reader Can Run! on Goodreads. I am speechless. The giveaway will end on October 27 at 12:00 a.m., so effectively that is Saturday night. I wanted to include Sunday as well, but I suppose that I should have picked 11:59 p.m. on Sunday instead.

Still, I am absolutely amazed. To think that there are over 200 people who of all of the books that are out th...

More on Goodreads and Getting Reviews

Last week, I posted a giveaway of 10 copies of my book on Goodreads. At the time of this writing there are 108 persons who have entered. Wow! I am really grateful and humbled that so many are interested in the book.

Coincidentally, I just received a book from a giveaway that I entered. The book came in the mail yesterday and I am half through the book. To my knowledge, there were no reviews for the book on Goodreads or Amazon, and now there are at least one. I plan to go through the book at le...

Goodreads, a New Adventure as a Author

Goodreads is a social media site that is focused on books. I had not heard much of it before, but I ran across references to it as I was preparing to write the book. I just joined a few weeks ago and obtained Author status. As soon as I had produced the print version of the book (with an ISBN) I was able to link the book to my profile.

Goodreads offers authors the opportunity to promote their books in several ways, some paid and some free. One somewhat free way to promote a book is to offer a...

Grantwriting: Managing your Time, Relationships, and Words

This might be the topic of an upcoming book or book chapter, but if you consider the basics of good grantsmanship, they “boil down” to these three. Time, relationships, and words are vitally important in the proposal writing process and they can all have an impact on the three aspects that I talk about in the book Reviewer-Focused Grant Writing: Making the Vision Plain So the Reader Can Run!

Time

Time has to be managed because so much of the work to be done takes a lot of time, especially getti...

Cooperation and Collaboration – Lessons I Learned from a Friend

I had lunch today with a very good friend of mine. We have been together at the same organization for about the past seven or eight years and even though our fields of expertise are different, we have worked together on a number of proposals earlier in our careers. I was meeting with her today to present her with a copy of the book and we had a great discussion about grant writing and working on projects.

The most interesting part of our conversation was her recounting to me a situation that h...

All About Grants.gov, which is still active, and (Audio)Book News!

Though this may seem like a cop-out of a blog, I would like to take some time to talk about Grants.gov. I know I mentioned it in the book and in this blog and wanted to cover a few things about it.

On this site are a good portion, if not all, of the federal grant opportunities available from all agencies and units. In case you don’t have a good idea of how broad our (currently slumbering) federal government is, here is a list of the agencies that are serviced by the system:

Department of Educat...

Grants.gov is still active and other timely topics

You never know just how much of an influence the government has on different things.

Yesterday, I went to look up some information from the USDA website, and lo and behold, it was closed. I was thinking to myself how many people must have been freaked out about it. Right now, there are a number of their grant opportunities that are coming due soon, and as far as I can tell you can’t access some of the information.

This is not meant to be a political statement, but I am trying to let you know ab...

E-book and Print Book Finished and Moving On…

At this time, the print edition of Reviewer-Focused Grant Writing: Making the Vision Plain So the Reader Can Run! is now available at Amazon and CreateSpace. I am very impressed with the process that they offer to create a print book. It only took several hours to reformat the e-book content into a form that could be readily used for the print book. I also had to redo the cover, but I used the e-book cover as a starting point and just had to add a back.

The Kindle MatchBook program will be lau...
