The highlight performance piece of La Academia Occidental’s 2015 arts festival was, without a doubt, Alyssa Donadeo’s self-choreographed dance “The Smoking Mountain”. Both acrobatic and pyrotechnic, the seventh-year student arranged her performance to selections from Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite blended with compositions by her older sister, Lyra Donadeo (LAO Class of 2010). Donadeo said she was inspired by what she had learned in her Muggle Science elective about plate tectonics and the formation of volcanoes around the Ring of Fire. “Our school’s history has long taught that religion and magic are not mutually exclusive,” Donadeo said in her production notes. “I think science and magic need not be strangers, either.”
Though Donadeo has been offered a position with the Terpsichore Ballet in Circle’s Corner, she is considering joining an arts collective in the Sixth Borough and developing her performance into a full-length production.

A Massive Archive Of Pre-WWII, Eastern European Jewish Photos Is Now Available
The International Center of Photography in New York and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday announced the joint creation of a digital database to facilitate access to photographer Roman Vishniac’s archive.
![]()
Vishniac was a Russian-born Jew who moved to Berlin in 1920. He documented the rise of Nazi power and its effect on Jewish life in Central and Eastern Europe. He is one of the only known photographers working exclusively with Jews, and his collection is the largest known of Jewish life before the war. Most of his 9,000 negatives have never before been seen.

The museum and photography center are asking scholars and the public to help with identifying the people and places in the photos. And of course, this will help make a major and under-appreciated 20th-century photographer more widely known.
I spent a long time with this resource while researching things for DC BOMBSHELLS. It’s very powerful.

Every time I hear mention of a youtube celebrity it’s a new one of these stock image looking people who seemingly appeared out of the void two weeks ago, fully formed with five million followers and the capacity to commit horrible crimes against another youtube celebrity which they will tearfully apologize for in a fifteen minute video

Mylar truly wishes he could take back what he has done and only hopes that you, the fans, can forgive him.
