OH AND SHOULD I BRING UP PANTIES WHILE I’M AT IT? I am a firm believer of the “fuck you, I’ll wear briefs that don’t give me a wedgie, I don’t care if they’re not sexy” policy, but a lot of women are expected to wear panties and thongs because GASP WOMEN MUST BE BEAUTIFUL AT ALL TIMES. Not only are women’s clothes more expensive, but a) they’re much flimsier, and b) women are expected to have more. Men can more or less get away with a limited and scruffy-looking wardrobe, but women often can’t without some kind of social ridicule.
Oh, and let’s not forget that women are expected to groom themselves more. Not only are women’s razors and shaving cream more expensive, they have to cover more area. Not only is women’s shampoo and conditioner more expensive, but women are expected to have more hair and use more products in general to make it look nice. And don’t fucking get me started on makeup.
And if you’re response to all that is “well they don’t have to,” literally go fuck yourself. You’re damn fucking right they don’t have to, BUT THAT IS LITERALLY NOT THE POINT. The point is that our society expects women to present themselves in a certain way, but the price to achieve that is jacked up, even when the products are objectively identical.
And the real fucked up thing is that even if women and DFAB people all started going for the cheaper male-aimed products, we’d still end up paying more than cis guys do for two things most of us have: boobs and uteri. Go out and fucking see how much you’d spend on the average 16 bras, then add a monthly cost of pads and tampons.
There is literally nothing that cis guys are expected to have or do that there isn’t an equivalent for everybody else, but there sure as fuck is for women and DFAB people.
