Putting the cock in cocky
How’s that for an eye-catching title?
(I have nothing to add. I just wanted to do this, and my PR person says I can write whatever I want in my blog.)
Enjoy your weekend.

Createspace cover
3:00 a.m.
I’m working at 3:00 am because I chose to do some writing today. And by “some writing” I mean about four solid hours of writing.
I no longer look at my “Month-to-Date Unit Sales” on Amazon. I can’t afford to have my moods attached to the sale of NIGHT OWL. Who can live like that?
Anyway, I’ve been cycling through tentative titles for book 2 the way I’ve cycled through covers for book 1. HOW TO SAY GOODBYE became LONE WOLF became LAST LIGHT, the current title on the manuscript.
And now I’m seriously fucking tired and worn out, and wondering why I don’t write full time. Writing is a difficult job. Writing a novel — even a smutty, lighthearted novel — takes everything from me, everything. And it’s the loneliest work on earth. I have yet to meet another writer who feels the way I feel about writing.
Come to think, I have yet to meet someone like myself. I’m always looking. I want that experience.

Why yes, I am that follower.

Redux / satin sheets
Apparently my cover-making compulsion wasn’t over. Isn’t over? It better be over now, because I’ve branched into the paying-for-images gig and there’s just no going back.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore the public domain — I want to make love to it — but public domain images are mostly depressing. For each elegant photo you find in the public domain, there are one hundred hideous shots that look snapped by a two-year-old.
Worst part: all the public domain image sites seem to advertise for the paid image sites, so you search “satin sheets” and the pub domain site is like, HERE YOU GO:
And right above it are 20 tantalizing images from the paid site, like, HERE YOU GO FOR JUST $199.00 A MONTH:
I can’t tell you how many times I’d see the perfect cover image… and for one sad, fleeting moment think that it was free. “OH GOD THANK YOU PUBLIC DO–oh… oh, I see…”
Anyway…
… speaking of satin sheets… and overpriced imagery… and hot book covers…

Dream cast
An awesome reader (*cough*Jeanie*cough*) recently asked: “who/what actors/actresses do you see as Matt & Hannah?”
And I actually never thought about that.
NIGHT OWL definitely has over-the-top beautiful characters such as we only find in fantastical fiction — part of the pleasure of writing in this genre. Every male in erotic romance is a demigod; every female is an angel. And I think we all know that erotic romance is a genre of fantasy.
Personally, I had no problem making Matt and Hannah ridiculously gorgeous. (However, for the record, Hannah has a basis in reality.) Anyway… after some thinking and Googling… I have decided that if Matt and Hannah had movie star good looks and I could choose their counterparts on the big screen, they’d be:
1.) A brunette curly-haired Scarlett Johansson
2.) Hayden Christensen as he looks here, at least
If Matt & Hannah got the Blockbuster treatment…

Anne Rice
The Wolves of Midwinter comes out tomorrow, which means I’ll be tossing aside all my other reading.
Even work and writing will be put on hold.
Honestly, I’ve been waiting for a good read for way too long. And by good I mean — I just want to start a book and know I’m in capable hands. When I can really trust an author, I’m happy. Trust them to tell me a good story. Trust them to follow through with all that the plot promises. Trust the pace, the language, the entertainment value.
And Anne Rice has definitely earned my trust.

10.99 ebook!? Worth it

Lisa over at True Story Book Blog has impressed upon me the importance of having a Facebook page. So now I have a Facebook page. And I have two likes. The last of my dignity is gone — but Lisa is happy, therefore I’m happy.
One of these days I’ll write a thank you post to the people who have been helping me promote NIGHT OWL. Lisa is one of them. If you’ve written a review for me on Amazon, you’re one of them too.
