M. Pierce's Blog, page 6

November 12, 2013

I’ll be here all week

This is cool: Two Crazy Girls with a Passion for Books is running an M. Pierce Spotlight Week this week. All week. And it’s Tuesday. And I am only posting about this now because I fail. However: better late than never.

Anyway — do check out their Facebook page and enter to win a signed paperback from me, as well as read an interview with me (and one with Matt on Thursday) and potentially chat with me tomorrow (Wednesday). “Potentially” because I may wig out and just do a giveaway instead. We shall see.

A big thanks to Kim and Bobbie Jo for running this whole thing!

MELANIE HARLOW’s awesome blog post

“How DARE Night Owl be so fucking good? How DARE M. Pierce write so well? How DARE the characters be so interesting, the setup so intriguing, the smut so hot?” (This is seriously a brilliant blog post. I’ve read it and reread it — several times. In fact, it makes me want to try out Melanie’s books!)

Signed bookplates for Night Owl

The Createspace paperback edition of Night Owl is now available on Amazon. The first 15 people to send me a picture of their copy will get a signed bookplate from me. Just take the pic, email the pic to me with an appropriate mailing address (mpiercefiction@gmail.com), and I’ll send the signed bookplate free of charge.

Sorry for the price on the paperback; that was the cheapest I could sell it.

Yes, I will mail abroad.

Yes, there will be more bookplates available in the future — but I only have 20 left and I really like these plates…

P.S. I did promise signed bookplates to about four people already; you’ll get them no matter what.

My dreams

“Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,

Enwrought with golden and silver light,

The blue and the dim and the dark cloths

Of night and light and the half light,

I would spread the cloths under your feet:

But I, being poor, have only my dreams;

I have spread my dreams under your feet;

Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

It looks great. I’m really impressed with the quality. And best of all, I think I can sell it as cheaply as 3 or 4 bucks + shipping (boo shipping) — we’ll see.

I’ll look this over tonight and it’ll be available for sale ASAP, which means everyone who doesn’t have a Kindle app or device can soon read NIGHT OWL. But remember, you can read Kindle books without a Kindle — just download the program to your computer, phone, or tablet.

Pimp my book

I owe NIGHT OWL’s recent (overnight) success to Maryse, who runs this amazing site, Maryse’s Book Blog. If you enjoy reading romance and want to connect with a community that’s large, active, enthusiastic, and friendly, that’s the blog for you. (And by the way, EL James follows Maryse on Twitter. That’s right. Feel the awe with me.)

I recently listened to a podcast in which Maryse described maryse.net as “a family… just a really big family,” and from what I’ve witnessed there and on her FB page, that’s exactly right.

The readers at maryse.net love / live / breathe books, they share recommendations and opinions, and they use all this adorable book lingo of which I was entirely ignorant until about a month ago. (Seriously, they call cliffhangers “cliffies” and other charming things like that. It’s great.)

I stumbled into self-publishing blind — literally, I didn’t even know what a “blog tour” was. I just wanted to throw my smutty novel on the web, hide under my desk, and die quietly.

It wasn’t until I found my way to Lisa of True Story Book Blog that I began to understand the HUGE role that book bloggers play in the self-publishing industry. Think of book bloggers as the agents of traditional publishing, the much-friendlier lions in the gate. These are people who (for no personal benefit, for the sheer love of reading) blog about and promote the books they love, effectively sharing your book with hundreds (THOUSANDS) of new and like-minded readers. I realize that’s old news to most people, but it’s novel and mind blowing to me.

My debt of gratitude to the book bloggers who have pimped out NIGHT OWL is enormous, so much so that I feel guilty. And so much so that I am still scheming how best to give back.

In the meantime, enjoy these stellar reviews of NIGHT OWL from the book bloggers who made it happen:

stars1 4.5 ★ MARYSE’S BOOK BLOG REVIEW

(Read it & check out the comments, they’re brilliant.)

(Also in the comments, see my uncoolest moment online.)

(Hint, it beings with OH MY GOD.)

LI SA’S REVIEW, TRUE STORY BOOK BLOG

(Alluring gifs, a racy excerpt – what more could you want?)

TRISH’S REVIEW, SCHMEXY GIRL BOOK BLOG

(Probably the funniest review of NIGHT OWL yet, love it.)

Check back here for info on the blog tour (why yes, I now understand the ways of the blog tour), the paperback edition of NIGHT OWL, giveaways of signed copies, the cover reveal for book 2, and other upcoming reviews from the book bloggers to whom I owe my soul.

And of course, to those of you who are reading, loving, and leaving (unequivocally positive) reviews for NIGHT OWL — all of my thanks.

99¢ books & how to give zero fucks

I know what you are thinking.

M. PIERCE, YOUR BOOK IS TOP 100 ON AMAZON. QUICK, RAISE YOUR PRICE POINT!

And I want you to know that I will not be raising the price point.

Because price points speak, and this is what they say.

.99 — I don’t give a fuck.

1.99 — I sort of give a fuck, and I’d like to pay my Netflix bill with book sales.

2.99 — I WANT TO MAKE ALL THE MONEH.

2.99+ — I am out of touch with reality (or Anne Rice).

For me, of course, the .99 cent no-dignity selling-my-hard-work-and-dreams-for-basically-nothing price point is about more than “giving zero fucks.” As I’ve told a few of my wonderful readers, I am not in this for the money. Writing = no moneys. Writing = no fame. The odds of hitting it big with a self-published e-book are next to nothing, and my head would be in the wrong place if I focused on my bottom line.

The reason I am selling NIGHT OWL for .99 cents is that I want the book to be accessible. I don’t want the 1-click decision to be painful. I want the book to reach readers who will love it and who can escape into it from a reality that’s often underwhelming. So why not give it away for free? Because, writing is hard work, and I am charging a few cents in deference to the labor and time involved.

So please, enjoy the book, practically free of charge.
