Lessons in motion

Every single day of my life is dedicated to either being a student or being a teacher .

The last day in New Orleans I had the privilege to hear some of the best motivational speakers in the business, then to go to a concert after, Mary J Blige, Jill Scott, Common, some of my favourite artistes! The lessons I'm sharing:

1. Forgive everybody - doing this frees you up
2. Tell the truth - all the time
3. Be willing to be wrong because we don't know everything
4. Never give up!

I left the concert, straight to the airport, and my luggage never arrived! Man, those lessons came back right away! I'm off to Grenada today minus my luggage but its all good!

Loving the lessons!
Peace!

Checking  in with some photos! The beat goes on today!
Have a great weeknd peeps!

What did I learn today? I’m in New Orleans at the 20th Essence Festival! It’s hotttt and it’s scorching as well!  I sat today taking in all the speakers and  I realised that The elders spoke of the race not being for the swift
The speedy
The, gimme gimme more
The, I want it now
The, I want to use all of it now
And I also believe that the race is not equally for the:
The lazy
The put off’ers
The not now
The I want it all but want to do nothing
No, the race is for those who face chaos with calm
It is for those who never forget that they are blessed
It is for those who never stop giving thanks
It is for those who find peace, comfort and tranquillity within the stillness
Those who make decisions based what people think
The followers
It is for those who find inspiration within the stillness
It is for those who show up, everyday, on purpose, on love, the courageous solutionaries!
Essence 2014- empowerment and upliftment- I got some work to do!
Peace!!

New Orleans Day 3

Give yourself some adventure, some achievement, some fellowship, learning, exhilaration, and other great moments of experience. Give yourself the benefit of working with discipline and focus to tackle a meaningful challenge. Ralph Marston

The place is hottttt!! I mean close to 40 degrees! Sun is out, people are out, energy is high! I'm having a mini meltdown. Confession time on the journey! I am feeling pretty intimidated now! why? famous authors, world class ones, top speakers, world class ones are here! I haven't moved much, stuck in my own head! This morning I woke up and said ok you wanted  this all the time so here it is! what's up baby girl? Baby girl said I'm scared hun! Why? What if it happens? What if you get it? Then things will change. Well baby girl, things are changing all the time so handle yuh stories please! So here I go today with love and compassion for myself knowing that whatever happens I will handle it!
Stay tuned!
Peace!!

In New Orleans

Time moves forward, so get yourself moving forward with it. Make this day uniquely fulfilling, and then create even more fulfillment tomorrow. Ralph Marston

Landed in New Orleans and it all came back! I love this place! My soul feels right, this is my 8th time here! There are three places that makes my soul sing, my super duper Island Trinidad and Tobago, Southern Africa and New Orleans! I guess its all the inspiration that I leave here with every time I come!

There's art, music, food, respect for traditions! Just the way I like to live!
From today I will be seeing all my peeps, Iyanla, Lisa Nicols, Terry McMillan, and the list goes on!

Reporting from NOLA, over and out!
Peace!!

Soul Lessons

When you are indecisive and scattered visualize pulling your energy in towards your body and bring your self fully into the NOW moment. Remind your self that there are no right or wrong choices. The Creator has gifted you with the Free Will to use your energy to create however you wish. In order to make the highest decision we must understand that all choices take us down the path of soul experience. Some decisions will guide us through our journey with ease and grace and others will be profound soul lessons for us to learn from. Sabrine Reur

Over the past few days I have been having quite an interesting time on the journey!
On Thursday, a woman who read my book "found" me, she lives in Florida and came to Trinidad to complete a writing retreat, She read the book and wanted to meet me, being a "small" island, the degrees of separation is more like three rather than seven so someone knew someone and voila I got a call, would I be willing to meet the lady! Sure! I had to drive about 40 minutes to find her, we sat and talked, drank my favourite coconut water and she told me that I made her trip worthwhile, she was telling herself in the mirror, wont it be nice to meet Akosua! The Universe is awesome!

The next day I travelled to Penal, about an hour and 45 minutes away to the South of the island to be the feature speaker at a school graduation, my first time doing this. I had so much fun! The atmosphere was filled with excitement and laughter and apprehension! The graduates were all looking so crisp in their uniforms, the parents were dressed smartly, and they were still relaxed, the teachers made the event so chilled for me that even though I was nervous as hell they made me feel calm!

I did my best and left it there! I wish all the graduates a fulfilling journey!

I'm preparing again for another trip this week, off to New Orleans to the Essence Festival! Looking forward to it! I absolutely love New Orleans, I have been going to this festival for over ten years, first time going as an author, with a book! Who would have thought??

Just do what you want to do and learn the rest along the way! After all, it really is just lessons!
Peace!!

Take a step....

I have been telling myself this all week, talking to myself about what I want to do, my big vision for myself which has started scaring the living daylights out of me, so much so that I have frozen and just like clockwork, I ask the Universe for guidance and this is what came into my mind as clear as day, I want to share it with you.

"You have no idea what is possible from where you are!- MOVE! Take a step. If you can clearly see how to fulfill your dream, dream a bigger dream, you’re playing way too small! Most times we don’t know the how that is what makes it more awesome!
If  you can see it all and know it all, dream bigger, there is no room for magic, there is no reason for the unexpected, for the miracles, for the people you haven’t met yet, for the faith, for the resources you don’t even know about or dream about, You will not know all this from where you are, MOVE! Do something, anything!
We get  a sense that we are being called to do something that is bigger than we are and we cannot most times imagine how we are going to do it. That causes angst and hesitation but that is just the way it is.
Where you are going is not a place, not a specific location, not a geographical location, not a job. You are moving towards a state of awareness, a state of being ,which only gets revealed on the journey. The “what” you are to become is revealed on the journey.
Don’t get stuck on the “thing”, the relationship thing, the job thing, the keeping up with the Jones’s thing, the brand name thing, the school my child goes to thing, the degree thing, it’s what the thing  represents. It’s the love, the abundance, the pride, the joy. Do you want more joy, more peace, do you want happiness? What makes what you do great is not the big ole grand things before you, but the little things that you do with passion and commitment and mindfulness and the successive way that you show up every day.  Show up. Shine. Buss out and let it go!" Peace!!

What you appreciate, appreciates!

What you appreciate, appreciates , Lynne Twist

Every time I need reminding of a lesson, the Universe responds to me right on time and many a day when this happens I laugh really heartily and sometimes scandalously and say a silent thank you! So here's the scene, I am looking at my budget and sitting there thinking ok, cash flow getting low due to timing of payments I am supposed to receive, I start a semi-panic and for me when this happens its either scenario's start playing out in my head or I beat up on myself for choices made, I'm thinking ok why did I come back to Trinidad again? The whole movie scene playing out in my head and right on cue as I sit there looking at plugging holes, my phone beeps, an email! I look at the phone and the email is from Lynne Swift, founder of the Soul of Money Institute. I am a fan of Lynne's work and it seemed so fitting that I received that email right at that time. Lynne's belief is When your attention is on what’s lacking and scarce — in your life, in your work, in your family, in your town — then that becomes what you’re about. If your attention is on the problems and breakdowns with money, or scarcity thinking that says there isnt enough, more is better or thats just the way it is, then that is where your consciousness resides. No matter how much money you have, it won’t be enough. No amount of money will buy you genuine peace of mind. You expand the presence and the power of scarcity and tighten its grip on your world. Ok then! Got it! She talks about transforming your relationship with money. Many of the things I have learnt about money I have to unlearn! Lynne Twist and John Randolph Rice are the two people who have taught me the most and right on cue an email from her! I read it, got up and went back to watch the football, appreciating every moment!
Peace!!

I am not a problem to fix

I am not a problem to fix. And I’m certainly not defective. I am bloody glorious. My darkness always circles back to the light. There is order to my chaos. My heart is broken on a daily basis and for that I am on-my-knees grateful. I am the entitled Ruler of My Own Life, a tender devotee of desire, ancient and newborn, a Medicine Woman Priestess Powerhouse, a Soldier of Love, an Artist of Magnitude. I am important—just because. In a perfect symbiosis of reciprocity, the world needs exactly what I’ve got to give—which is tremendous. My hunger is fierce, divine, and universal. Moreover, it is insatiable—and that is good. I am a portal to Truth, luminous. I am as wide-awake today as I can possibly be. And I am not the only one. I . . . am . . . not the only one Danielle La Porte

What are you creating?

Give yourself some adventure, some achievement, some fellowship, learning, exhilaration, and other great moments of experience . Ralph Marston Last night I went to a show at the Little Carib Theatre in Port of Spain and as I was sitting there watching and listening it hit me. We are here to create! We are here as co-creators with the Universe, with God, whatever you want to call the higher power. Women, of course are co-creators of life and has the ultimate fun! But wow, how awesome is the ability we have to create and we focus so much on destroying or following or moaning and complaining or creating bacchanal and commess and drama! Create something that feels nice, that nurtures the soul, that makes someone smile even if it’s you, whether it is a loving environment, a healthy meal, something! create something! because we have this awesome power to create!  Super powers are given to be used!

What are you creating today?
Peace!!
