What it is like to be an independent author.

So I have been working trying to get the ball rolling with book sales. As an independent author it is a little hard to do. What are the options. Advertising, so far Goodreads has netted me a couple of click troughs in tens of thousands. God do I feel lucky. It seems that they are more interested in the large accounts than the small ones that I can afford. Goodreads will not let you change colors or font size to tailor your add in an eye catching way. One size must fit all is their norm.
Twitter is good but it took me a little while to understand how it operates and generate followers.
Tumbler is one of the best formats but it requires a lot of time that I just can't give at this time.
So now I am back to this diatribe, hell bent on venting to my blog.
Now I am going to just laugh because to do more would serve not purpose at all.
If you have input that could be words of wisdom or to stop crying the blues please do give me your two cents worth. It would be a change from the silence.

Duplicity the Wrath of Kore

So I have been working on a sequel to Duplicity and have completed one chapter.
This read is definitely a harder edge read.
The story will pick up as Emily kills Kore and Amoris. The new work will deal with the raw emotions of Kore and Emily. Kore's anger at her creation will give way to her vengeful killing of her creators and anyone that gets in her way. Emily will find that raw emotions will fill her as she deals with her losses too.

Here is a couple of raw unedited pages from the sequel of Duplicity. I hope you will enjoy them!

Kore bolted upright upon her bed feeling the shift in time caused by the Dark Angel. Agitated her cool eyes adjusted to the light of the darken room. The room was small only large enough for the bare necessities of life. A small bed a lamp and a three drawer dresser with an overhanging end to it with a chair to serve as a desk. Gray walls devoid of a single article upon them. Upon the desk, one small note pad and a single pin. Faint light shown from a source with only enough light cast to find your way; illuminating from a device next to the door. Just a sterile overhead light that hung from the ceiling exposed without a shade graced the room for utilitarian comfort.

Kore stood and made her way to the light switch, then turned to the door. Making her way down the hall she entered the bathroom reliving herself then washing her hands and face.

She spent a moment staring at her reflection in the mirror drilling her eyes into the face that was looking back upon her being. Her eyes looking back at her red at the inner edge of the iris giving way to electric yellow at the outer. Her brows full yet thin tilling slightly down to the bridge of her nose. Her jet-black hair cropped short traced the lines of her face to the nap of her neck. The pail iridescent green of her skin changing huge slightly as she moved her face side to side all seemed surreal to her. It felt strange to see herself having only lived not quite yet three hundred days. Felling like a fish out of water, not a part of anything, no mother or father just a tube in a lab. A suckling pipette her closest relative known with the exception of the unknown cell donor, that none would speak of to her.

Staring intently into the mirror caused her mind to wander to her first fleeting memories of her existence. Grown in a large clear tube under an ultraviolet lamp. Floating suspended in a liquid that filled her lungs. Dreams upon dreams, then the mental connections of her makers filling her head with the required information to survive. Trapped in the tube for five long years without the touch of a single hand upon her skin. No love, no understanding just a nothingness, mental prodding and her dreams. Dreams that left her screaming without sound as the liquid in the chamber triggered the sensations of drowning.

Anger filled her now as she gazed upon the reflection; tears would not flow. No pity for herself, only anger and rage; a scowl came to her face as he clinched her fist jamming it into the polished chrome steel mirror. Her hand, knuckles fractured with blood upon the steel mended themselves in less time than it took to wash the blood from her hand. Pulling her hand from the cold water she shook them violently down then whipped them on her pants.

Kore looked upon the reflecting image of herself one last time then with determination upon her face she turned and left the room to search for answers of who she is.

Making her way along the halls she came to the door that was the extent of her travels in the temple. It was locked, a heavy grained knotted door of wood with a diagonal flat of steel to reinforce it gave it an oppressive look. Yet her mood of anger reinforced the need to rid herself of this obstacle. She took a few steps back then launched herself upon the door. Splinters gave way with the ear splitting crack as her foot landed upon this cage door that bound her, tethered behind it.

Free now she would find her beginning; the responsible ones that created her. Then she would find what was drawing her to it. Amoris knew, he would tell or pay with his life. He was using her, toying with her like a pet; loathing him came easy in the last few weeks as she lay in her room thinking of her reality that festered in her tormented mind. Crushing the life from his emaciated frame crept into the fabric of her thoughts as a smile of satisfaction crept across her full red lips.

Stepping over the rubble of the door she made her way along the hall. Echos of her footfalls the only sounds of comfort in the dimly lit passage. The passage ended at a steep staircase with a flickering harsh light above. Kore climbed tentatively without a sound using her ears for any sign of life as she made her trek.

At the top of the staircase lay another door; she checked it and it wasn’t locked. Pushing it open it emptied into a well lit room with many paintings upon the walls. Curious she made her way to the delightful looking one that hung upon the far wall. It was a picture of a ship upon the deep blue waves, froth clinging to each as the ship glided down one. Clouds upon the sky not quite full allowed streaming angelic rays of light upon the ship from above. The ships mast and sails taking the force of natures wind from the stern of the vessel. Spray cast into the air slid along the side of the ship giving it depth that made Kore feel as though she could almost touch it.

She had never seen such pictures only planted memories of what she saw now. The vivid colors drew her in as she stared with aw in to the painting. Like a child her imagination gripped her with thoughts of standing on the deck of such a ship. Wind in her face carrying with it the smell of the sea; the tastes of salt on her tongue as the sound of the wind pummeled her ears. Lost in the moment she could think of nothing else for a bit.

As her focus returned to her surrounding she was in; Kore was gripped with a feeling she was being watched. Kore spun on her heal to see a figure leering at her from across the room. She cross the room before they could even register her movement. Her long fingers rapping themselves around her victims neck, not to tight to crush the windpipe yet firm enough to grip it collapsing the airway enough to cause panic to set into their eyes.

With a little upward pressure from her arm she pulled him to her face.

“Who are you?” As Kore intently looked into their eyes.

“Bayon” he replied choking through her grip.

“I know the name, you are part of the counsel are you not?”

I hope you had fun with this raw scrap of the sequel to Duplicity.

Stuck in Alaska

The wind is coming up today, it is going to blow 75MPH or more tonight. That said there will be not plane ride for me today out of Sand Point.

I have been working a few hours a day on the sequel of Duplicity. Not sure of what the name will be yet. I am thinking of the Wrath of Kore. Kore's anger is going to be a driving force of the book. But because of what she will do, Emily too will feel rage to the core of her soul spurring her power to its full potential.

The new book will start back up as Emily confronts the temples counsel. Be warned this read will keep you on the edge of your seat with very few breaks as the pent up emotions flow.

Sequel is coming "A Kick Ass Book"

So I have started the sequel to Duplicity and it is going to be flat out kick ass. The kid gloves are coming off with round two.
Yes it will have a little romance to soften the edges and give the reader a compassionate side but look out this one is going to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Give me a couple of weeks and I will post the first few pages on my web page.
If you have read the first book and know how Emily deals with Amoris and Kore. Put that writing times three and you will get a feel for what is coming for powerful, gripping kick butt writing.
Good reading,
David

People love a good read!

Thank you for this review on Amazon!

Duplicity (Kindle Edition)
After reading "Duplicity" by David M. Wilmot I find myself wanting more. I was so involved with Emily for parts of the story that her pain was my pain, and when she laughed I too would be laughing while reading. In my opinion that is one of the true signs of a great story. Throughout the story Mr. Wilmot gives enough detail that you feel you truly know the characters, they become friends of the readers. The childhood home of Emily, the lake, the Old church, all places described in such detail that you can picture yourself going to them yourself. I do hope Mr. Wilmot decides to right a sequel as I would love to see what could happen next. Mr. Wilmot, you should be commended on a great work of fiction!

Along the Path

I added Along the Path, to my list of books; a book that was written for my grand daughter, Jheri when she was five years old. It was to be only three to five pages long when started but mushroomed to the read you see today.
The artwork won't win any prizes as Jheri helped me with them. But the point of artwork for a child is to spark imagination and there is a little room for that as I laugh out loud.
The stories plot line deals with an evil wizard who uses drugs children inhale to steel the happiness from their hearts. I felt that with such a story one could start the discussion of how drugs will rob a person of happiness and their dreams.

Going to Alaska

On the 16th of September I will be going back to Alaska. Sand Point, Alaska is a small village in the Shumagin Islands. The islands are located at the end of the Alaskan Peninsula, N 55.000, W 160.000 approximately.
No I won't be going fishing but I will be working on the fishing vessels getting the boats ready for the winter Pollock fisheries.
I have been going to Sand Point for 17 years. When I am in Sand Point my internet connection will be a little limited. With that in mind I may not have access to Goodreads so if you have read Duplicity and are looking for my response to questions during the last weeks of September don't disrepair I will answer when I do return.
Good reading,
David

Thank you MK Harkins!

I am a little new to the writing community, struggling to get my footing with a fan base. So I was very pleased yesterday when I received a Tweet from MK Harkins the author of Intentional asking if I needed any help with the marketing of Duplicity.
I was delighted and deeply moved by her offer.
One of her good ideas was to give readers a little more of what to expect from Duplicity as a read. So today I couldn't sleep and was up at 5AM and placed a new updated synopsis.
I would like everyone to know that as soon as the hard copy of Duplicity is proofed I will announce a giveaway date.
Good reading to all,
David

Paperback is coming

I finally got through the formatting of the cover and written parts of Duplicity. This was more involved than the writing of the book.
I submitted the files to Create Space yesterday and they accepted them for print. I ordered two copies to proofread. I feel jazzed about seeing my work put into a hard copy that I can hold in my hand.
So to all who despise e-readers, Duplicity will be in reach soon.
