The Engineered Throne

Lovely read that got a lot heavier than expected.

Lord Vellem is desperate to escape. His father hides from his problems in alcohol, his mother hides from her misery in drugs, and his brother fled to the relative safety of the royal palace. Vellem found solace in the Royal Army Corp of Engineers, but true escape from a life of violence remains out of reach.
Then his brother provides him with an unexpected chance: marriage to a prince of their countrys oldest enemy to help bring about peace...

Squared Away

Squared Away had the perfect formula to be a great book: second chance romance, being thrown together by circumstances, kids to raise and opposites attract, with the addition of an interracial relationship, a biracial protagonist and an ace-spectrum main character.
Sounds great, right? Despite my excitement for the book I had a very hard time getting into it and almost did-not-finish it at several points.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 2.5 of 5 stars.

Bonds of Brass by Emily Skrutskie

I both really liked some and really struggled with other parts of this book, but what I think it comes down to is that the impressions and expectations I got from the way Bonds of Brass was advertized did not match with what it delivered.

A young pilot risks everything to save his best friendthe man he trusts most and might even love only to learn that hes secretly the heir to a brutal galactic empire.
Ettian Nassuns life was shattered when the merciless Umber Empire invaded. Hes spent seven...

A Lesson in Thorns

Oh man oh wow, Im not sure how to summarize my feelings about this books. It was a WILD ride.
Ultimately A Lesson in Thorns was a book with quite a few flaws and some very weird details, but it also had wonderful conversations about many important topics, a very queer and diverse cast and it was a lot of fun to read.

When librarian Poe Markham takes the job at Thornchapel, she only wants two things: to stay away from Thornchapels tortured owner, Auden Guest, and to find out what happened to...

Review: Werecockroach by Polenth Blake

I absolutely adored this! I read this in an attempt to fight my fear during a burgeoning roach problem in my apartment complex, and while it didnt really help with that it was an awesome book.

Rating: 5 ouf ot 5 stars.

Rin, the protagonist, has an amazingly distinct voice that I loved reading. Their humor and sarcasm frequently made me laugh, and I loved that despite their cynicism they were not an ass about it.
The plot was great and very unique, features aliens and, well, werecockroaches,...
