Autism Awareness Day!!
Hi all, I'm participating in RJ Scott's Autism Awareness Blog Hop! I work with individuals with Autism everyday and they are some of the most amazing people I know. Read some facts about Autism, enjoy a blurb and excerpt from my recent release, Shredding the Heart, and then enter my Rafflecopter giveaway!
Autism Facts
Autism doesn't just affect children. Children with autism grow up to be adults with autism
ASD can sometimes be detected at 18 months or younger. By age 2, a diagnosis by an experienced professional can be considered very reliable. However, many children do not receive a final diagnosis until much older. This delay means that children with ASD might not get the early help they need.
Research shows that early intervention treatment services can improve a child’s development. Early intervention services help children from birth to 3 years old (36 months) learn important skills. Services can include therapy to help the child talk, walk, and interact with others.
Autism impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction, communication skills, and cognitive function. Individuals with autism typically have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities
Autism is treatable, not a hopeless condition. Children with autism do progress – early intervention is key.

Skateboarder Nicholas O'Brien’s sole focus is on perfecting his sport, yet a gorgeous jogger who continually ignores him tests that concentration daily. Boarding into the jogger's path finally gets him Quinn Matthews’ attention along with the brush off. Quinn is adamant that no man will ever take advantage of him again. When Nicholas persists, Quinn finds he can’t resist the enigmatic boarder. Just as he falls for Nicholas, Quinn learns that Nicholas just may have had an agenda all along. Devastated, Quinn pulls away, leaving Nicholas alone and confused. Can they overcome their pain and shred the heart?
ExcerptNicholas’s gaze was jerky as he gazed out over the water. Quinn wondered if he was nervous. He took in Nicholas’s profile—the milky white skin, the barely noticeable freckles on his cheeks, the full red lips. He imagined their softness against his own lips, taking possession of him, owning him. But he needed to be strong. Never weak or needy or wanton. Never vulnerable again.
Nicholas looked to Quinn and the lusty gaze stole Quinn’s breath. There was a question in Nicholas’s eyes as he leaned closer, no doubt wondering if…
When their lips touched, Quinn couldn’t suppress his gasp. As if sensing Quinn’s hesitancy, Nicholas hovered, head tilted to the side, their lips brushing, but he ceased any other movement. Was he seeking permission to kiss him? A cold shudder raced down Quinn’s spine with the thoughts of hot tongues tangling in wet mouths. A sign was all Nicholas probably needed to go for it. Quinn closed his eyes and licked lightly across Nicholas’s bottom lip. The groaned response from Nicholas and the resulting crush of lips fueled his desire, raced his heart, and guided his hands to Nicholas’s hips, clutching, holding, wanting.
Nicholas grasped Quinn at the nape of his neck, controlling the kiss, eating at his lips, and devouring his whimpers. Nicholas pushed him higher, and Quinn’s cock throbbed in his dress pants, begging for any friction, any touch. Anything… everything. At that moment, his body belonged to Nicholas O’Brien, and he wanted whatever the man desired, wanted so much more than he could ever hope to have, could risk having again.

Synopsis: Saving Caeorleia Book TwoDade, human-Caeorleian hybrid and ex-military grunt, doesn’t fit in—not with humans, not with aliens, not anywhere. He’s always on the outskirts, angry, and people aren’t sure they can trust him. When he encounters a compatible tziu named Yaseke, secrets, misunderstandings, and attacks nearly prevent the two from making a connection Dade sorely needs. Even after they unite, Dade and Yaseke face challenges that two newly joined males should never have to endure.
From traitorous council members, to sadistic aliens who plan to sell them as slaves, to meeting a mysterious race of revered aliens called Collectors, Dade and Yaseke manage to stay together—and even rescue two youths related to Yaseke, who’ve lost their parents to the same betrayer.
Someone from Dade’s past is at the root of everything he’s suffered. No way can he let them get away with what they’re planning, but Dade isn’t sure he can stop them on his own. If he doesn’t let go of his isolation and risk the pain letting others in will bring, he’ll never save Caeorleia in time.
Excerpt: Chapter One
Sunlight glared off the silver surface of the lake, blinding me where I crouched away from everyone. The guard currently assigned to me stood at my back, making my skin crawl. I shivered, even though it was hot enough I was sweating. I never knew when one of them might try to touch me.
The water cooled my fingers when I dipped them in, making small swirling circles ripple around my hand. My hovering shadow, a guard assigned to follow me around, shouted over to the guards who were with the main group lounging together beside the lake. The sound startled me, and I jerked, splashing water over my robe. I glared at him from the corner of my eye, but my guard was talking to Fieo and not paying that much attention to me. Nicklaus was sitting in the shade of the weird brown trees by the water. He was busy talking to Ryker, the other human who’d set us free from the military scientists.
Over the last few days, things had settled down. Those Caeorleian Council guys were no longer trying to force us into matches with their own people. Ryker’s guy had really told them off, calling it the rape it would have been. The other two men might want one of these pale aliens touching them, but I didn’t. I wasn’t sure what would happen to us on their planet, but I didn’t need anyone pawing at me. I’d known I would need more information, so I pumped the only person I could. Ryker had spent a few afternoons telling us everything he’d learned living on Caeorleia, which was the name of their planet.
I’d tried to absorb everything about the Caeorleians, treating what he told me like a debriefing. Before Ryker and his isit had rescued us, the only term I’d heard the planet called was MC-214-XXV. It had been the subject of a lot of speculation among the rank and file since it’d been discovered. The rest of the time I stayed in my room, avoiding the guards. Especially the one always hovering over Nicklaus. It creeped me out to see the way he watched him every second—so possessive. Fieo never touched Nicklaus but focused on him with a single-minded intensity.
Ryker and his alien guy, Seral, were never far apart, either. Being part of that kind of constricting relationship would’ve driven me insane. A slave to a need not my own? No. Not on the agenda.
I sighed, dipping my other arm in the water up to my wrist. It was really too hot out in the sun, but the shade of those weird sampanga trees was filled with naked aliens. And as tempting as the water was, I didn’t want to go swimming. That would involve taking off my robe.
I was not comfortable with that, even if it seemed like almost everyone on this planet shunned clothing. I’d never seen so many cocks and balls, and I’d been in military school and then actually joined the Space Forces as a teenager. Close quarters with a lot of guys was nothing new, but I couldn’t believe the Caeorleians’ blasé attitude toward nudity. Ryker had told us about the confusion over the different concept of clothing he’d encountered when he first showed up. Ryker ran around in a pair of shorts and had given Nicklaus a few pairs. I was too big for his shorts, so I had to wear the aliens’ version of a skirt and robe.
It was awkward. I’d tried to wear my pants I’d been wearing when we fled the ship, but it was too hot. I was not going to go naked, though, not like these aliens.A shadow fell over me. I dipped my shoulder and spun as I surged to my feet. The guard who had come up behind me seemed startled and looked at me uncertainly as I glared at him.
“Don’t touch me!” I snapped, clenching my hands into fists, barely resisting the urge to show him my fangs. “What do you want?”
He held up his hands and took a step back. “Sorry. Everyone is going inside; it’s too hot out here. Seral has invited you to eat with him, and the midday meal will be served soon.”
I grimaced. Being stuck in a crowd of people around a table was the last place I wanted to be, but I didn’t feel like I had much of a choice. I waited for the guard to move after he gestured at the path. The guard took another few steps away from me, but he didn’t start walking toward the building until I walked past him. Then he followed me. I ground my teeth, my shoulders hunching up.
I could have been safe the past five years, in a hovel back on my home planet, working in a factory as a drone assembler or something. I might have more freedom to move around on Caeorleia than I’d had on the ship Ryker and Seral rescued me from, but at this point I wasn’t sure how much better it was here. Damn scientists.

Shredding the Heart coming in April as part of the Foolish Encounters Anthology
Soon the wait will be over!Shredding the Heart
A short story part of the Foolish Encounters Anthology Coming April 1st from Wilde Press.
Nicholas O'Brien, skateboarder, constantly seeks to break barriers, land the next trick, get the sponsor and focus on the sport. Yet, for weeks he's been mesmerized by a brown-haired, clean-cut, uptight jogger at the local park. The man is obviously wound tight, his posture ramrod straight, his form perfect, his face a stony mask of concentration. It's those hazel eyes that glow with a yellow fire in the sunshine that hook Nicholas. He needs to get this man's attention. Okay, so skating boarding in the man's path might not have been a good idea. Trying a flip while doing it might not have been a worse idea. But in his asinine way, it seemed like the only way to get the handsome jogger's attention. Now they are both in the ER and the doctor is putting stitches into the man's gorgeous head. When Nicholas tries to strike up a conversation, the man shuts him down. What ensues is a mission for Nicholas: He will get Quinn one way or another! But just when things seem to be moving forward, Quinn pulls back, leaving Nicholas alone and confused with a broken heart.
Quinn Matthews hadn't planned on ending up in the hospital, much less getting stitches in his head. While the younger man was cute with his too-long-on-the-top hair, and tight body, Quinn swore off men after his last boyfriend spent over $5000 of his money. Quinn is lonely but he will be taken again, even if that means being alone for the rest of his life. But the skateboarder is tenacious and funny and Quinn just might let his guard down, until he learns that Nicholas is looking for sponsorship from his company. Just another guy who only wants what Quinn can give him. He's crushed and immediately closes his heart to keep from getting hurt any further. Will his inability to trust cost him everything?

Welcome author Julie Lynn Hayes to the blog with her new release Crossroads! (PS. Don't you just love the cover!)~*~*~*~*~*~
Blurb
Crossroads: a point at which a crucial decision must be made that will have far-reaching consequences
Clete Deveraux is a little old Southern boy a long way from home, drifting the highways with his abusive boyfriend, Vern. Tal Clark is newly graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, but his plans for a carefree summer have just been derailed and he’s not sure what he’s going to do.
Things happen for a reason…
Clete and Tal’s lives intersect at a rest stop in central Missouri, but sometimes first impressions aren’t the best. And finding the right path isn’t always easy.
Clete and Tal have reached a crossroads… and now they have to decide which way they want to go. And who they want to go with.
Excerpt
As he rounded the corner, he stopped dead in his tracks, his thought not only unfinished, but completely slammed from his head by the sight before him. A figure stood in front of one of the vending machines, slender legs encased in tight blue jeans that led to the most gorgeous ass Tal thought he’d ever seen in his life, a notion that was seconded by his dick, which twitched its agreement.
Genie who?
The girl had fine blonde hair, so pale it seemed almost white, but maybe that was just due to the harshness of the lights. Tal’s heart was beating a staccato tattoo inside his chest at the way she shifted her weight from one leg to the next. His imagination began to run rampant, as he pictured himself placing his hands on those dainty hips, drawing her to him as he nibbled on her neck. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been this turned on. A little voice inside his head rejoiced. Genie was wrong—he wasn’t what she’d said he was, and this was proof positive of that. It was all her fault if he found more pleasure in a book than in her bed. See? The proof of his sexuality was here, staring him in the face. Well, her ass, his face.
And then she turned, and in the next moment all his illusions shattered around him.
She...was...a he.
Just damn.
This guy was pretty enough to be a girl, easily, Tal’s confused libido tried to make amends. He wore small hoop earrings in one ear that jingled lightly when he turned his head. His eyes were a blue so pale they almost disappeared into his face, his smooth skin lightly tanned, which only brought out the pinkness of his pretty lips.Pretty lips? Where had that come from?

Author bio:
Julie Lynn Hayes first began publishing short stories and poetry in the 1990’s, when it was a different ballgame altogether, and Ebooks hadn’t been dreamed of yet. That changed in 2010 with the acceptance of her first romance novel. She’s come a long way since that first book appeared, and is finding the journey a very educational one.
She lives in St. Louis with her daughter Sarah and her cat Ramesses. She often writes of two men finding true love and happiness in one another’s arms, and is a great believer in the happily ever after. She likes to write in different genres, to stretch herself in order to see what is possible. Her great challenge is to be told something can’t be done—she feels compelled to do it.
When she isn’t writing, she enjoys crafts, such as crocheting and cross stitch, needlepoint and knitting, and she loves to cook, spending time watching the Food Network. Her favorite chef is Geoffrey Zakarian. Her family thinks she’s a bit off, but she doesn’t mind. Marching to the beat of one’s own drummer is a good thing, after all. Her published works can be found at Dreamspinner Press, eXtasy Books, and Amber Quill Press.

~~~~~*~~~~~
When no one spoke, Levi continued. “That’s why I stopped the meds. I thought they were causing me to feel nothing but…” Still that empty lonely echoing within him had continued.
“But it didn’t help,” Dr. Winston said finishing Levi’s thought. “Oh, Levi. This just keeps getting stranger and stranger. I know this is a lot to take in at once.”
More than he could have ever imagine. Levi looked down at the bloody tissue. Blood covered his palm. “Can I use the bathroom?” He could only imagine what his face looked like.
Dr. Winston nodded. “The door behind Jeb.”
Levi sighed. Of course, it was. Levi walked toward Jeb wondering if he would move at all. Just as Levi paused, Jeb stepped aside and motioned for Levi to pass.
Levi shut the heavy wood door behind him and turned the lock. He exhaled at his image in the mirror. Not much blood was left on his face. Quickly, he washed up. Frowning, he leaned into the mirror, focusing on his eyes, searching for any hint that his soul was missing. He didn’t look soulless. He envisioned a gaunt, lifeless image, gray skin, white hair, black, dead, doll-like eyes. No, he didn’t look soulless but fuck all if he didn’t feel it in every cell. “Hollow, unfeeling” as that woman had said. Had she seen the gaping black hole where a soul should have been?
Loss overflowed within him. Overcome with misery, tears filled Levi’s eyes. He squeezed them shut against the burn and droplets rolled down his face. His couldn’t have been more surprised if blood had leaked from his eyes. Reaching a fingertip, he trapped a tear as it rolled past his mouth. Closing his eyes, he pictured the incredulous look on Logan’s face, the defeat Levi had served him, Logan turning his back. Gone.
Shudders wracked Levi’s body as he was overtaken by sobs. Logan, I’m so sorry. He grabbed his cell phone and called Logan’s number, willing him to answer but got his voice mail. The sounds of Logan’s voice pushed him further into remorse. Through blurry eyes, he struggled to text his brother.
I am so sorry. Please forgive me, please!
Hitting send, Levi needed to see Logan. Cleaning his face of any traces of tears, he exited the bathroom nearly smacking Jeb with the door. So close.
“Feel better?” Jeb asked but Levi passed by refusing to answer.
“Well, it’s been a lot of fun but I have to get home. My parents think I’m at class and my last one is over in exactly forty-five minutes. If I’m late, they’ll freak.” Levi walked purposefully toward the door.
Dr. Weston raced to block Levi’s exit. “Wait. Levi, there’s more.”
Levi had enough, way too more than enough. “I’m full,” he assured his former teacher.
“What more could there be? I’m soulless and if you just keep Mr. Bad Ass Energy over there away from me then all will be good.”
Jeb grunted but said nothing.
“But you can get your soul back,” Dr. Winston said.
The possibility hadn’t even occurred to Levi. “Got any lying around? I’ll take what you’ve got.”
“Levi the only person who can remove a soul is a Seer and the only person who can hold that soul is a Soul Keeper. The entire point of removing a soul is to allow the person to gain a mature conscious. Then the soul is almost always returned, generally anywhere between seventeen and twenty-two. It all depends on the person’s personal growth.”
“So someone has my soul somewhere in a jar on their shelf and their supposed to give it back?” If this day took many more twist and turns, Levi was going to puke.
“In a manner of speaking. It’s the Guardian who decides the right time to return the soul and only the Keeper can return it. There are strict rules that govern Seers and Keepers.
And souls are not kept in jars. Breakable and all,” Dr. Winston smirked at that.
Levi imagined the “oops” moment of a jar full of soul hitting the floor.
“But we don’t know who my Guardian is.”
“No, we don’t, but we can go to the next best person to tell us the Keeper’s name. Only one person can give permission for an infant’s soul to be removed.”
“I really hope you don’t mean God,” Levi sighed with exasperation.
She shook her head. “Your father.”
Levi stood next to the driver’s door of his car in the parking lot, clutching his keys tightly in his fist. After all the bombs that had been dropped on him, he’d been sent away with two unwanted things. First, a mission to obtain strands of his father’s hair for some Spell of Recognition, in order to start the search for his soul. Second, Jeb.
“You’re not driving my car,” Levi said and wrapped his arms tight around his chest, hiding the keys under his arm.
Jeb stood about two feet away from Levi. Holding his hand out, Jeb waited with that calm, annoying demeanor for Levi to hand over the keys. He would be waiting a long time. Levi could be stubborn, too.
“Let’s go, kitten.”
“What the hell?” Levi sneered. “Don’t call me that.”
Jeb smirked. The gesture was both unnerving and alluring at the same time. Gods, Levi wanted to hate him and kiss him at the same time. "You remind me of a kitten. Curious and wary at the same time. Full of spit and fire and energy. I can feel it coming off of you in waves," he whispered almost seductively but then dropped his hand. Levi took that as a sign victory for his fortitude, however instead of moving away came closer. Levi backed up against the driver’s door as their chests almost touched. Levi had to strain his neck to look into Jeb's face. Jeb leaned forward resting a hand on the driver's window behind Levi. "And you're ready to attack at any moment. You look like you want to scratch my eyes out right now or...maybe crawl into my lap and purr."
Levi gritted his teeth forcing the need to touch the solid chest before him. He couldn't let Jeb get the better of him. The untrustworthy man was playing Levi to get his way. “Have you ever heard of personal space?” The words, which were meant to come out with more force, were merely a whisper.
Jeb fixed his gaze on Levi. Other than the slight movement of his eyes, not a muscle twitched, as if he were carved from stone. Damn, those eyes could see right through Levi. And the heat pooling in his groin messed with his head. Shit, was he getting turned on?
“You’re afraid of me.” Jeb’s voice was raspy and self-assured.
Levi stiffened his spine and pulled up his chin. “No, I’m not.” Hard to sound convincing with a shaky voice, and yes, he was frightened by the man...and definitely turned on. That was twice today he’d felt something mirroring lust.
Jeb leaned closer, his cheek brushing across Levi’s causing him to shudder as Jeb whispered into his ear. “You should be.”
