Winner winner!! Thanks, y’all, for weighing in on prizes for my monthly giveaways! The winner of Friday’s giveaway of an ebook of her choice is Marie McKenney! And for Monday’s Guess-How-Klutzy-Jamie-Is giveaway, y’all were mostly way off, so I did a random drawing, and the winner is Jennifer Stidham! Marie and Jennifer, email me at jamie (at) jamiefarrellbooks.com with your choice of one of my books and your preferred format (epub, mobi, or pdf), and I’ll get those out to you right away! And if you want to know which of those ten items I did, hop back to Monday’s blog and check it out! I’ve updated it. :-)

Also – have y’all signed up to come to next week’s Facebook launch party for The Husband Games? Come join the fun now!! I heard a rumor there will be early giveaways, and maybe a few other fun things!

On to today’s fun…

My current work-in-progress is book two in the Misfit Brides of Bliss series, also known as Lindsey & Will’s story, also known as The Battle of the Boyfriends. And Will (my next Southern hero–you Jackson Davis fans are gonna love him!!) is a country music star who goes by Billy onstage.

And when we were in Kansas recently, I went here:

In honor of Will-Billy, of course. Really, eating the cupcakes was a sacrifice. A sacrifice in the name of my art, I tell you! :-)

Hope y’all are having an awesome week! Stop by and see me today at Pam Mantovani’s Facebook Launch Party, and also tonight at Four Chicks Flipping Pages!

Jamie vs. The Picture

In case you missed it… The Husband Games went live early. Have you gotten your copy yet?! Amazon | Barnes & Noble | iBooks | Kobo | Google Play Now, on to our regularly scheduled program…

While the family and I were in Missouri (yes, at the haunted cabin), Munchkin asked me an interesting question.

“Mommy,” he said, pointing to a picture on the wall, “what is that?”

Photo of a stick statue of a man with a bunny head

What is that?

I stared at it. Then I squinted at it. Then I tilted my head and looked at it and squinted at it some more.

“I don’t have any idea,” I finally told Munchkin. “Maybe Daddy will know.”

“Because he’s smarter than you?” Munchkin said.

It took me a few deep breaths before I could reply. “No, Munchkin,” I said, very slowly. “Daddy might know because Grandpa took that picture, and they might have talked about it.”

But I couldn’t stop staring at it. Until finally, I figured it out.

“Oh! I see it now!” I said. “It’s a bunny head on the body of a man who’s kneeling.”

Because, duh. Of course it was, right?

What do you think? Did I get it right, or do you see something else in this picture?

A Year of Happy Mondays – Jamie The Klutz Edition

Today, because it’s Monday, and because I suspect many of you probably enjoy Jill Shalvis’s “I Love Lucy” moments as much as I do, and because I’ve done some really boneheaded things in the last couple months, we’re going to play a game.

It’s called, Guess Which One Of These Ten Things Jamie Has Done Since May.

Get a cup of coffee (but probably don’t drink it while you’re reading this list), because you’re gonna need your thinking caps to puzzle this one out. (Erm… or probably not. But seriously – don’t drink your coffee while you’re reading this.) And I’ll give a copy of any of my ebooks to the person who guesses closest to right! (Winner announced Wednesday.)

Okay. Y’all ready?

Let’s do this.

TEN THINGS JAMIE MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE DONE THIS YEAR

10. Left the lights on in my van overnight and killed the battery and then had to wake my dad up at 6:30 AM for a jump

9. Flipped Squeaker out of a dual inner tube on a water slide

8. Left my credit card at a restaurant. When I was there without my kids.

7. Dropped my iPad and cracked the screen

6. Locked myself out of a hotel room with one or more children in tow (twice)

5. Walked around my hometown all day long with lopsided boobs, thanks to one of the underwires coming out of my bra

4. Woke a sleeping child in the car by throwing a sleeve of crackers on him.

3. Accidentally put sparkles all over SuperHubby’s uniforms

2. Washed my car keys, fob and all

1. Backed my car into my sister’s car in the driveway.

So, want to win a book? Comment and tell me which of these things you think I’ve done since May! :-) Happy Monday, y’all!

p.s. Read all the way down to the bottom. There are some links there that might be of interest to you!

The Raccoon

The last four weeks, my kids have been in summer camp. On the way to and from summer camp, we pass this little park. And every night, they ask if we can stop.

So one night, we did.

And then this happened.

IMG_1959

I hadn’t gotten the kids all the way out of the car yet, and since this was probably the first time in my entire life that I had ever seen a raccoon, I texted SuperHubby. Are raccoons dangerous?

My phone rang nearly instantly. “Why?” SuperHubby wanted to know.

I explained the situation to him.

“Eh, you’ll be fine,” he said. “But if the raccoon bites one of you, go to the hospital right away.”

Erm… yeah. Between that and the dirty look the raccoon shot me when I honked my horn at him (perhaps he was a taxi driver in a previous life?), I told the kids we weren’t staying, but that we’d try again another night.

And we did, and it was wonderful, and we all played nicely together.

But we can’t go back to the park anymore. Because two nights ago, on the way home, Squeaker suddenly shrieked, “Mommy! I have go potty!” And we were right at the park, and the park had a bathroom, so I whipped in there, ordered Munchkin to undo Squeaker’s seat belt and make a run for the bathroom fifteen feet from my parking spot.

Squeaker couldn’t make it.

He didn’t wet himself, but he did expose himself to a park full of people in an effort to not wet himself.

Always a good time, y’all. Always a good time. :-)

The Munchkin Effect

The Husband Games by Jamie Farrell - Noah Castellano, Natalie's 4-year-old sonLast week on Twitter, Dee from Dee’s Book Blog asked me if I was channeling Squeaker when I wrote Noah in The Husband Games

Apparently she noticed some similarities in her ARC.

And I had to tell her the truth. Noah wasn’t based on Squeaker.

He was based on Munchkin, because Munchkin was four when I started writing The Husband Games.

Munchkin doesn’t have the same dinosaur fascination as Noah, but he does like to sing. And he has gone through a pretty dresses phase too. But most of all, little kids (in my experience) have this special talent of thinking outside the box. Mostly, I think, because they don’t yet know the box exists. And that’s just too much fun to play with.

I can’t wait for all y’all to meet Noah! And Natalie and CJ, and the Queen General (hehe… more on her coming very, very soon) and Kimmie and Lindsey and the rest of Bliss. Eight days, y’all! And if you read on your iThing, you can already pre-order the book on iBooks! Click here and reserve your copy today!

Happy Wednesday, y’all!

Squeaker vs. The Ghost

A while back, we stayed in SuperHubby’s family’s cabin in the remote Missouri backwoods. It hadn’t been used in a while, so we knew we needed to run out for a few supplies. SuperHubby took Munchkin for the twenty-mile drive out to the nearest store, and Buttercup, Squeaker, and I stayed behind, getting things put away and organized for our stay.

Thirty minutes after SuperHubby and Munchkin left, Squeaker walked up to me, pointed, and said, quite earnestly, “Mama, that boy say to sssshhh.”

I looked at Squeaker. Then around the cabin. The very isolated, seldom-used cabin, twenty miles from civilization.

“What did you just say?” I said to Squeaker.

“That boy,” he said, earnestly pointing again. “That boy say to sssshhh.

It turned out he was pointing to a picture, but I had a few very creeped out minutes there. And SuperHubby did too when I told him the first part of the story. But, obviously we all survived, and we’ve had no more interactions with any ghosts.

And on a side note – July is almost over!! The Husband Games will be here in just over a week! And my July giveaways will wrap up soon!! If you’re not signed up for my newsletter yet, sign up today! And if you haven’t entered the Goodreads giveaway for an advanced, signed copy of The Husband Games, get thee to Goodreads and enter now!

A Year of Happy Mondays – My Kids’ Favorite Words Edition

This is my kids’ last week of summer camp, y’all! I’m enjoying this full-time writing stuff. (So are Lindsey and Will, heroine and hero of The Battle of the Boyfriends, Misfit Brides of Bliss Book Two, who have been waiting patiently for longer than I’d like to admit for me to get their story written.) But all good things must come to an end (until Buttercup starts kindergarten in four years, anyway), so this week, my Monday smiles are My Kids’ Top Ten Favorite Words.

10. Boob. (*sigh*)

9. Doe-mutt. (As in, “You’re a doe-mutt, Munchkin.” “No, Squeaker, you’re a doe-mutt!”)

8. Ooga-booga. (With a twelve-hour drive ahead of us this weekend, there will be lots of “If you’re happy and you know it, shout Ooga-Booga!” going on in my life.)

7. No! (Buttercup’s biggest contribution. Definitely a favorite right now. *sigh* again.)

6. Butt. And booty. And booty-butt. And all variations of booty and butt, in all combinations.

5. Sha-shee-shoo-sha. (No, I don’t understand it. But I do acknowledge that they’re mine.)

4. Mine. (Buttercup’s second-biggest contribution. Used semi-effectively on a daily basis.)

3. Waaaahhhh!!! (Used by all three. Frequently. Usually after being denied something unsafe/unhealthy/unsanitary (and do keep in mind that I’m a firm believer that the three-second rule beefs up their immune systems).)

2. Super Underwear Boy! (Said while jumping into a room, fist extended, dressed only in their underwear. Usually. Sometimes they forget the underwear part.)

1. Poom-poom. (Said while pointing their vegetables at you at the dinner table. Last night, Squeaker got me with a carrot poom-er.)

There you have it. Ten phrases I hear every day, and that I’ve almost missed during those hours my kids have been at summer camp. Hope y’all have a happy Monday!

Moving On To The P-Word

SuperHubby and I don’t watch much TV, but while I’ve been staying with my parents, I’ve had some fun enjoying America’s Got Talent.

This one’s my favorite.

(Stay to the end of the song. Really.)
