Featuring AN ENDURING SUN by A. R. DeClerck #summerofSFR

Continuing with the Summer of SFR, I have A. R. DeClerck here today to tell us about her series, AN ENDURING SUN!

Tell us a little about yourself, A. R….

Wife. Mother. Writer. Podcaster. Reading ninja. Food assassin. Self-proclaimed nerd and obvious goofball. Lover of ships, romance, SF, steampunk, anime, manga, and MUSIC.

I think I may be a food assassin as well. Lol.

I asked A. R., “Tell us about your hero in AN ENDURING SUN?”

A. R. replied…

“Determined to stay under the radar and out of enemy hands, Ren just wants a quiet drink at the bar. What he gets is a surprise visitor trying to steal his bike, and an odd urge to help her out of trouble. This is book one in the Aeon Project series, set inside the Takamo Universe. Takamo is a MMORPG SF game in development, which hosts authors who write inside game canon to gove players a more immersive gameplay experience. But Aeon Project isn’t just for Takamo players, all lovers of SFR and cyborg romance will fall for Aeon Project.”

It’s really cool that there are stories and novels out there that are based off of games! I love the cross-overs.

Sharyn Moran joined the Rangers to save innocent lives. Her personal vow is to never see another broken child in the ERCA Territories again. When she is caught stealing a bike on her newest mission, she’s sure she is about to be turned over to her enemies. Surprisingly, a stranger offers to help her, but after an accident in the desert, they end up at his isolated home with his family.

It’s clear that Ren and his brothers are hiding from something and, more than most, Sharyn knows how hard it is to keep secrets. She senses that the brothers and their father have all been through a terrible ordeal, but hesitates to invade their precious privacy. However, the longer she is with them, the more she begins to care for them. She starts to imagine a life with Ren, even if it can only be an impossible dream.

When Sharyn and Ren get sighted together through facial recognition, Ren’s enemies know exactly how to flush out their quarry. They will kidnap, murder, and torture their way across the galaxy to accomplish their final goal. Ren knows the only way to stop them is to face what he is…what he was….and what he might become…. to save Sharyn and the rest of the galaxy from the rising tide of death and destruction in their wake.

Sunday Update – August 16, 2020

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Another week down in the pandemic!

This week felt a lot slower than most of the other weeks we’ve had, mainly because there weren’t workers here every day to work on the bathroom. The bathroom is like 90% done. We had workers here on Friday to install our glass door, and now we’re waiting on some cabinetry and a few small things. We’ve mostly moved back into the bathroom. We use it for daily showers and it’s nice to have a second toilet in the house again. We’re so close to being done! I expect to be finished the first week in September.

I’m almost done with freelance too. We wrapped up a bunch of things this week, and now I only have to do training videos and a few minor updates.

This week I started writing a Flyght/Vivian novella, and then I stopped because I realized it wasn’t the right novella to be writing for my anthology. It really gives too much away about the series, and then if people read the Flyght Series, it’s spoiled for them. So I am writing down all my ideas for it, and then I’m going to set it aside. I will write it eventually and publish it as part of the Flyght Series (as an after novella). Instead I’m going to write a Skylar novella! I’ve been brainstorming that and I hope to start on it this week.

Life around home has been pretty sedate. The kids find stuff to do as best they can. There have been a few trips to the pool here and there. A few trips to the local ice cream shops. Lots of bike riding. I’m walking a lot, with and without Lulu. Today I’m taking a rest day, but tomorrow I’ll be back out there.

And finally, yesterday, we had a big Facebook party in my joint reader group with Carysa Locke! Are you a member of our group? If you’re not, you should be in there! We had a great time! It was a ton of work, both leading up to the party and during the 8 hours it was going on. I had major screen fatigue by the end and I was actually nauseous from looking at my computer! Lol. I guess I’m old. Anyway, the day turned out great, and we had a lot of fun. I’m so glad for this group.

I take tons of photos of Lulu sleeping because that’s really the only time she’s still. I’ve tried taking photos of her awake, and they are just a blur!

Except this day, there were workers in the house and she was feeling territorial and wouldn’t stop barking. So I held her on my lap outside until they were gone. (In this photo, you can see her cute extra fuzzy lips.)

We had SO MUCH BASIL this week! We made pesto pasta one night, but it wasn’t enough to make a dent in our stash. So I washed it all, dried it off, tossed it in olive oil, and the froze it.

The kids are still enjoying the pool.

I had a nice Zoom call with my mom, aunt, and cousin!

The new glass door has been installed in the bathroom! I love it!

And finally, we ended our week with martinis.

I hope you all have a great week! Stay safe and healthy!

Book Chat #60 – Rachel Vincent #summerofSFR

Continuing with my Summer of SFR, I decided this time to listen to a YA sci-fi dystopian romance!

BRAVE NEW GIRL by Rachel Vincent (Books2Read)

I really enjoyed this book! But I have to say right off the bat that this is not a complete story by any means. It’s the first book in a duet and it ends on a cliffhanger, not having resolved anything of the main story. It left ALL the questions open. Normally, I find that to be rather annoying, and I figured I’d mention it in case you want something that has a satisfying ending.

But regardless, I listened to this book on all my walks recently and found I was engaged and wondering what was happening the entire time. I love a book that really grabs my attention and holds on. Dahlia 16 is one of 5000 people in her genome generation, made to be gardeners. She shares a face with 4999 other girls! Her life is orderly and neat, learning her trade so she can go on to be a gardener in her city, Lakeview. I liked that the story focused on her solitary viewpoint and slowly expanded to show us more and more of the city and the life in which she inhabits. That was so nicely done! And her awakening of her body and purpose with the help of Trigger 17 was fun and exciting. It was a good romance storyline.

Since this is an incomplete story and I did enjoy it, I’ll be picking up Book 2 in the fall and finishing it up. I hope Book 2 completes this story! I want to know what happens outside of Lakeview!

Featuring THE ALIEN’S RANSOM by Ella Maven #summerofSFR

Continuing with the Summer of SFR, I have Ella Maven here today to tell us about her series, THE ALIEN’S RANSOM!

Tell us a little about yourself, Ella…

“As Ella Maven, I write fun and sexy Sci-Fi romance about dominant aliens who are devoted to their humans. I also write in other genres of romance as Megan Erickson and am a USA Today bestselling author.”

I’ve known Ella/Megan for a long time now (from way back in the early New Adult Romance days), and it’s great to see her writing sci-fi romance now!

I asked Ella, “What inspired you to write THE ALIEN’S RANSOM?”

Ella replied…

“I love science fiction romance and was really inspired by the fun alien romances being published by some talented authors. At the time, I was also on a motorcycle club romance kick, and I had a thought… what if I combined the two? And the Drixonian Warriors series was born, which I call ‘bikers in space.’ Except these are hover bikes, and the warriors are stuck planet-side…for now.”

I love that she took two genres she loved, mashed them up, and wrote what she wanted! And her series is doing really well, too.

“Nothing in my life had prepared me for extraterrestrial motorcycle clubs.”

Frankie: I thought alien abductions only happened in movies. But here I am on a strange planet with green soil and a gang of muscled, wicked-horned aliens on hover bikes. All I want to do is go back to Earth, but the alpha male in charge has decided I belong to him. Now I’m on the back of his bike speeding to an unknown destination and super freaked out about liking his biceps and serious scowl. Good thing I have some banked personal days, because this might take awhile…

Daz: The job is supposed to be easy. All I have to do is deliver a spaceship of living cargo to the vile Uldani and they’ll release my brother. If I fail, they’ll take it out on him. Except the cargo is something I’ve never seen before–human females. The one called Frankie is beautiful and soft, and I’ve already spilled blood for her. Now how am I going to save my brother? Because this human female is mine.

The Alien’s Ransom is a full-length Sci-Fi romance novel featuring a snarky heroine who tries to find the humor in everything, even when kidnapped by aliens, and a possessive hero with lots of hidden weapons. Big ones.

Featuring RESCUED BY QAIYAAN by Tamsin Ley #summerofSFR

Continuing with the Summer of SFR, I have Tamsin Ley here today to tell us about her series, RESCUED BY QAIYAAN!

Tell us a little about yourself, Tamsin…

“Once upon a time I thought I wanted to be a biomedical engineer, but experimenting on lab rats doesn’t always lead to happy endings. Now I blend my nerdy infatuation of science with character-driven romance and guaranteed happily-ever-afters.”

I think you got the better deal there, Tamsin!

I asked Tamsin, “What inspired you to write RESCUED BY QAIYAAN and The Galactic Bride’s Series?”

Tamsin replied…

“I am addicted to B-rate sci-fi, especially if there is a romance thread! Throw in unique alien cultures and a smattering of language, and I am hooked. When I started writing my Galactic Pirate Brides series, I was working for an Alaska Native corporation and surrounded by people who spoke Yupik in the workplace. Of course, the first thing I learned was a few swear words, lol! I could never pronounce things exactly right, but I tried, and some of that language found its way into my Galactic Pirate Brides universe. The series features hot alien men gunning for revenge against an evil corporation that destroyed their females. Fans of Firefly love this series!

Book One, Rescued by Qaiyaan, introduces a crew of space pirates who accidentally save a human female carrying stolen corporate nano-tech. She is exactly the captain’s type, but neither of them trust each other at first. It takes some intrigue, a space battle, and a whole lot of foreplay for them to find their happily-ever-after.”

Well, I love Firefly, so I’m sold!

Aliens, space battles, and romance!

With no females left to repopulate his species, this alien captain never expected a human female to make him vulnerable to wicked temptations. Will one searing kiss unleash his raging desires?

Wanted by the black market cartel, Lisa has come out of hiding to find her missing twin brother. She’s carrying top-secret biotechnology that has both the cartel and the law hot on her tail. An alien pirate captain with smoldering eyes and a rock-hard body is the last distraction she needs—but he’s also her only hope of escape…

An evil galactic corporation destroyed Captain Qaiyaan’s home world, and with no females left, his fleet has turned to piracy and revenge. The last thing he thought he’d find on a derelict passenger ship is an alluring human female carrying a solution to his race’s salvation. And he definitely never expected the feisty ex-con to worm her way into his heart.

Together, they must fend off alien bounty hunters and keep their bucket-of-bolts ship from falling apart. Yet the greatest danger of all might come in the form of a single, passionate kiss. Will the very technology that allows them to be together end up ripping them apart?

Author Note: Explicit love scenes, superhero aliens, and heart-pounding action. This steamy sci-fi thriller is intended for mature audiences.

Sunday Update – August 9, 2020

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Another week in which I remember virtually nothing of what I did. Anyone else not even surprised?

Looking back on the week, we did have some drama on Tuesday when Tropical Storm Isaias ripped through and did a lot of damage up the East Coast of the US. We, THANKFULLY, kept our power the whole time but many around us were not so fortunate. My cousin who lives about 25 minutes south of me still does not have power. Many of my friends in Connecticut don’t have power either. I actually went out and drove in the storm to get our weekly CSA veggies. It wasn’t too bad then but got worse much later. Lots of trees went down around here!

Lulu went and played with the puppies on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday which are always good days for me to get out of the house and do something. She also turned one years old on Tuesday! Her birthday is August 4th. Happy birthday, Lulu!

Earlier in the week, I got grocery delivery for all the non-perishable stuff and then went out later in the week just to get veggies we were missing.

In work news, I spent several days reading submissions to the anthology I’m editing with Carysa Locke. I finished reading through CHAOS IN KADOMA WARD, and I switched over my pen name to my new mailing list. I did some more work on my freelance project and there’s a bit more to do there before we’re done. I started writing down ideas for my novella and I hope to start on that on Monday.

In bathroom news, the vanity, toilet, and medicine cabinet are all in! All the electric is hooked up and the room has been painted! Yay! We effectively moved back in! We’re still waiting on the alcove cabinet and the glass door on the shower, so in the mean time, we have a temporary shower curtain up and we’re using most of the bathroom. The toilet is the best. Really.

Here’s a look at the almost finished bathroom! I went with a beachy light teal color for the walls and we have some Klimt prints on the way. It’ll look lovely once it’s all done.

My husband gilled eggplant this week and made baba ganoush.

Lulu turned one on Tuesday!

Tropical Storm Isaias ripped through and did a lot of damage around here.

I had a rough week with other stuff that I can’t detail here. Sigh. This martini was much deserved.

Have a great week everyone! Stay Healthy and Stay Safe!

Featuring SYNNER’S SAINT by Kate Rudolph #summerofSFR

Continuing with the Summer of SFR, I have Kate Rudolph here today to tell us about her series, SYNNR’S SAINT!

Tell us a little about yourself, Kate…

Kate Rudolph is a paranormal and science fiction romance author. She loves writing about kick butt heroines and the steamy heroes who love them. She’s been devouring romance novels since she was too young to be reading them and had to hide her books so no one would take them away. She couldn’t imagine a better job in this world than writing romances and sharing them with her fellow readers.

Kick butt heroines are the best!

I asked Kate, “What inspired you to write SYNNR’S SAINT?”

Kate replied…

“This book started off with the electrical colors of purple and blue and it took off from there. I wanted to write about aliens with glowing wings and super powers… and so the Zulir were born. There’s a bit of a twist on the traditional fated mate bond that is super fun to write, and I get to explore an entirely new world filled with warring factions, space ships, and characters who kick butt!”

More epic science fiction romance! You can’t go wrong with that!

Taken from Earth and used like a lab rat…

Emily was a normal law student until she was abducted by aliens. Forced to perform death defying feats by night and undergoing medical tests by day, she doesn’t know how much longer she can take it. When one alien takes particular interest in her she’s afraid things have gone from bad to worse. He’s got wings and fangs, and he makes her heart pound. But she can’t want an alien like that… can she?

He doesn’t have time to rescue a human…

Oz is on Kilrym for a reason, and it’s not to rescue the ethereal performer who captivates him by night. But covert ops are impossible when his mind is on the human who could be his fated mate. War is on the horizon, but what if the only way to save his people is to sacrifice Emily?

Despite the fact that they were born light years apart, they are a perfect match. But Oz is keeping secrets, and when Emily finds out the truth she may never be able to forgive him, no matter how much she needs him to survive and escape the planet alive.

Featuring THE TWELVE SYSTEMS by E. G. Manetti #summerofSFR

Continuing with the Summer of SFR, I have E. G. Manetti here today to tell us about her series, THE TWELVE SYSTEMS!

Tell us a little about yourself, E. G….

Award-winning author, EG Manetti has always enjoyed a vivid imagination and occasional scribbling. In 2010 she was struck by the inspiration for The Twelve Systems Chronicles. The draft of a single novel soon became three, and then more. In 2012, after several hundred thousand words, The Cartel: The Apprentice, Volume 1 was published, followed by seven other volumes. The latest, Chalice Bearer, released January 21, 2020. To date, the first two volumes have received bronze Reviewers Choice awards from Paranormal Romance Guild, and volumes three and five were finalists for the prestigious InD’tale RONE Award (Reward for Novel Excellence)

A former information technology project manager, EG writes as often as possible, cooks exceptionally, and gardens adequately. She resides in Florida with her beloved (and often confounded) husband and their severely OCD Jack Russell Terrier.

I have a Jack Russell too, and they can be quite the handful! I can’t even garden adequately. Lol.

I asked E. G., “Why did you write THE TWELVE SYSTEMS SERIES?”

E. G. replied…

“The two volume boxed set, The Twelve Systems Bundle is a 2019 Paranormal Guild Reviewers Choice Award recipient. Loving epic science fiction and science fiction romance, I could not resist the urge to combine the two. The series centers on the heroine’s, Lilian’s, determination to survive against the odds, and the impact she has on those around her. Because it is science fiction romance, the hero, Lucius, is an alpha male and a master of the universe in the truest sense of the terms. One of the aspects I most love about the series is the relationship between Lilian and Lucius how their expectations evolve.”

Epic science fiction is what I love best!

Where duty and passion collide.

Life within the Serengeti Cartel is perilous, riddled with malice and intrigue that can threaten the mightiest of warriors. For Lilian – brilliant, despised, and one misstep away from execution for her father’s crimes – all that stands between her and destruction is the powerful warrior Lucius Mercio. In return for his protection, Lilian becomes Lucius’ apprentice, yielding control of her body, will, and intellect.

THE CARTEL: The Apprentice, Volume 1

Lucius Mercio commands one of the most powerful Cartels in the Twelve Systems. As clever and ambitious as he is ruthless, Lucius’ wealth, influence, and power place him among the elite of the warrior caste. It is not enough. Lucius intends to take his Cartel to unimaginable heights with the aid of Lilian’s brilliance. He faces only one obstacle. Lucius must keep Lilian alive.

BRIGHT STAR: The Apprentice, Volume 2

In the second volume in the Twelve Systems Chronicles, Lilian’s enemies are more determined than ever to see her destroyed. A visitor from her past will endanger her future and threaten to destroy Lucius’ slowly developing trust. To survive the next set of challenges Lilian will need to find new reserves of courage, wit, and determination. When Lucius’ motivations and ambitions are revealed, they are far more extraordinary than Lilian imagined.

Featuring UNEXPECTED by Annalise Alexis #summerofSFR

Onward with the Summer of SFR, I have Annalise Alexis here today to tell us about her book, UNEXPECTED!

Tell us a little about yourself, Annalise…

Annalise Alexis is a free-spirited mother of three who lives with her husband and kids in the heart of Texas. A huge fan of Firefly, Gilmore Girls, and anything with Jason Momoa, Annalise combines her love of all things sexy and strange by writing science fiction romance and paranormal romance.

Anything with Jason Momoa… Indeed, my friend. ANYTHING with him.

I asked Annalise, “Why did you write UNEXPECTED and what’s your favorite thing about it?”

Annalise replied…

“Unexpected is the first installment of the Her Illusian Warrior Trilogy. It features a strong-willed heroine, an absolute alpha male alien and a cast of characters you won’t soon forget. It’s a high action, passionate story of two people pushed to their limits and driven to protect not only themselves but all the people they love.

Why did I write Unexpected?

Unexpected was my first published novel. Writing for me was an emotional outlet I used to cope with the death of my parents and before Unexpected, I kept what I wrote safely hidden on my computer. Ren and Jayla yelled louder than any other characters I’d written and demanded their story be heard.

My journey through grief is also what inspired the plot. The Illusians fight to survive, fight for the ones they love, and fight to right the wrongs done to their people. Unexpected is twisty, violent, and sexy. Everything about Ren and Jayla is intense and it’s through their love for each other and the Illusian people they find the strength to fight.

What’s my favorite thing about this series?

How hot Ren and Jayla are! Also, I really love how the side characters get little mini stories of their own. I really tried to give each of them life.”

This is the second book I’ve featured from an author writing through grief. What an amazing thing writing is for us!

They’ve been missing for a century—an elusive alien species hidden somewhere in the deep expanse of space. Most of the Universe forgot they ever existed at all.

So, when a group of Illusians show up on my ship in the middle of the night demanding aid, I risk my life to let them in.

They’re beautiful, violent beings. Nearly hunted into extinction by a group of psychopaths dead set on owning and selling their females. As if that weren’t bad enough, now the general in charge of my station is blackmailing me, threatening to expel me—or worse—if I don’t comply.

I should protect myself, follow orders, and do as he says. But how can I, when the male leading their race claims me as his?

And I let him.

In the first installment of the Her Illusian Warrior series, can Jayla and Ren survive an insidious plot to destroy the Illusian race and everything they hold dear? Including each other?

For the grown and sexy only. This book contains strong language, sexual content and mention of sexual abuse.

Sunday Update – August 2, 2020

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Another week of not doing much! I miss the trips to tennis lessons, kids sporting events, the pool, and Panera. Like, A LOT. I didn’t have a super social life before the pandemic, but it’s becoming apparent now that I really liked the few things I did!

This week, tile was completed and sealed in the bathroom! We’re really happy with it, and our tile guy is absolutely amazing. He matched up the tile beautifully in the corners. Tony is amazing! Now, we move on to the vanity, medicine cabinet, painting and accessories!

I also finished my read through of CRASH LAND ON KURAI and made it through most of CHAOS IN KADOMA WARD. I’m remembering why I loved writing this series! And I’m excited to finish it off!

Nothing much else happened. I ate a lot of salads. I got another haircut. We watched Sumo every day.

Tile progress! The tub is covered in these photos but the shower surround is done!

Saw this great Stitch chalk drawing while out walking.

I’m trying bug spray in order to stay outside and read. It’s only moderately working.

Lulu loves to be close by.

Artichokes are so pretty.

I ate a lot of salads this week in an attempt to clear the freezer of frozen fake crab and the fridge of all produce.

And that’s it for this week! Stay safe and stay healthy!
