Meditation, a poem
Hello Poetteers,
This week's Poets on the Page prompt is meditation.
Meditation
I move and focus on my breath
my unnerving thoughts leave
I break open
and my mind is finally clear.
I repeat myself the positivity
until I feel it
out in the world
my unnerving thoughts are back
but with practice
I remember to be positive and breathe
while in this low mood
I'll be back to my good mood.
Do you meditate? What topics do you like to see in poems? Leave a comment below. Also, if you like this poem check out more poems in my book, Her Treasures.
Thank you,
Fida

Where She Went, a Poem
Hello Poetteers,
As you know just I read a book, Where She Went. And that got my muse going. It inspired me write some poetry. Here is what I wrote.
Where She Went
I'm flesh and bone
I bruise easily
writing fills the void
as I wait for you
Bring the noise out of you
don't be scared of your raw powerrun with it all
Let the intensity burn obey the musebring a new kind of joy
Your whispers are like musical notes floating up to the sky and stars.
I know her voice
I know their voicesthe memories comelike a fresh breath of air and a hugof welcome back but it is also a new better place
It's the same voice
but new wordsit still feels like coming back
Let me love you
love me like you dofrom where you arefrom here
The puzzle pieces whirling I'll pick up the broken pieces
help you put it back together
I will hold your handunder the tablereminding you to breathe inand let it outlet it go.
Thank you,
Fida

Monthly Recap on Goals #1
Hello Poetteers,
I thought since I shared some of my relations with you I would share with you how it is going. This past month went well. As you can see from my past posts I've read 7 books. I'll see how this next month goes and maybe up my reading goal.
I spent the month reading through and light editing my wip, Louder Alone. This month i hope to do some more in-depth editing.
A personal goal of mine is to bring yoga back into my life and be more consistent with it. I heard of Yoga with Adriene and have done a few of her videos in the past. I saw she was doing a 30 day yoga camp and participated. It helped me so much and I see improvement in myself and it inspired me to want to continue with yoga.
I've been following Alex Beadon for a while. You should check her out. She has this energy that inspires and motivates me to focus and work on my passion.
Last but not least, I have a poetry series going on, on Instagram along with a photo challenge I'm participating in.
P.S. Her Olives reaches it's 2nd book birthday on Feb 13th. I would love to see pictures of you reading Her Olives. Tag it #FidasOlives. Thank you!

Reading Recap
Hello February and Poetteers,
I finally read and finished Where She Went by Gayle Forman. I was reading it at the bookstore, so of course music was playing while I was reading. As I reached the end, the last 20 pages, the perfect song came on. You would know what I mean if you read the book. The song playing was Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding. Of course I had to use the song as my caption for an instagram pic.
I did enjoy the whole book, it was interesting to see where the characters went since the last book. I don't know if it is because it has been a long while since I read the last book but the characters seemed different, but still good. There was something about the story that inspired me to write poetry.
I'm currently reading Stray by Elissa Sussman. My next read I'm hoping will be Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys.
Thank you,
Fida
P.S. Her Olives reaches it's 2nd book birthday on Feb 13th. I would love to see pictures of you reading Her Olives. Tag it #FidasOlives. Thank you!

Hello Poetteers,
Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I love the poetry scattered through out, that writing and humming them kept her going. We get to experience the war zone, the life of flying planes and a concentration camp. We are able to see her help others and recover from her own struggles.
Hot Pink in the City by Medeia Sharif
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It makes the story interesting when there is multiple conflicts going on. It makes it more relatable. We all have an inner conflict going on while dealing with an outer conflict.
Winter by Marissa Meyer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is the longest and last installment of the series. I loved it. There were seems that made me cry and some made me laugh. Some made me laugh because you knew it was going to happen since it is retellings of some fairytales. I love how the author went with it. It came unexpected and felt new. The story kept me in suspense especially when the crew is separated but I'm happy it all ended well. Though, the ending itself is unexpected and bittersweet.
Love,
Fida

Small Gems, a poem
Hello Poetteers,
Seeing this week's prompt was perfect. I was just looking through some old poems I've written almost 5 years ago. The prompt was to find an old poem and rewrite it. Here is the revised version:
Small Gems
It's hard to find
the meadows and empty roadsbut when I do my heart growsI can let the windows down play my music loudand dance in the headlightshave a picnic in the fieldshare it with those I love.
(it was originally written in June of 2011).
Love,
Fida

Hello Poetteers,
Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I don't know how I feel about it through out the whole book. The magic part of the story was a bit creepy but I loved all the parts about baking and yoga. It was a plot twist unexpected but I was suspicious of it and was right. I'm unsure if I'll continue with the series.
Bestest. Ramadan. Ever. by Medeia Sharif
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved the main character. I could relate to her. I'm glad to see her come into her faith and start understanding it for herself. It is refreshing to see the kind of relationship with her mother. I'm glad to see how the friendships, new and old developed.
The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It was thought provoking, funny and sad but hopeful. I loved it!
Thank you,
Fida

Winter Air, a Poem
Hello Poetteers,
Poets on the Page have their weekly poetry prompt up and i'm participating again. This week part of the challenge is to attempt to write a Pantoum.
Winter Air
The warmth seeped through my hands and reached my heart breathing the fresh air after the snowfall it touches my nose sharplylike ice fell onto my face
Breathing the fresh air after the snowfall like daggers warning you of what is to come like ice fell onto my face I take my scarf to cover up, the next time I'm out I'll remember this
Like daggers warning you of what is to come it touches my nose sharplyI take my scarf to cover up, the next time I'm out I'll remember thisthe warmth seeped through my hands and reached my heart.
Love,
Fida

If we were having coffee...
Hello Poetteers,
I saw Jamie from The Perpetual Page Turner do this kind of blog post a few times and decided to follow after her.
If we were having coffee... I'd tell you I read BESTEST. RAMADAN. EVER. I loved seeing the main character with her struggles and friendships. I could relate to her. I gave the story 5 stars.
I'm also currently reading Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic. I don't know how I feel about it yet.
If we were having coffee… I’d tell you how much I dislike that winter is finally settling in. But I'm happy the school break is over and I'm back in a quiet home.
If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I want to and am starting to cut back on social media. I didn't delete my accounts in case I want to come back but I did log myself out and delete the apps off of my phone.
If we were having coffee…I’d tell you that I'm loving my new and improved evening routine. It is a time of the phone and internet. It is my reading and relaxing time.
If we were having coffee... I'd tell you my second poetry book, Her Olives, is turning two on Feb 13th! I would love to see pictures of you reading it. You can share it on any social media with #FidasOlives.
Thank you,
Fida

Embrace the Real You, a Poem
Embrace the Real You
They tell me to wear makeup
but I won't they tell me I won't look beautiful without itbut I feel beautiful without itI feel beautiful within me
They tell me to show some skinthat it will make me look beautiful but I won't show some skinI'll let my mind show my beauty
They tell me to have a certain shape, size and color that those few things will make me beautiful but I will love every curve and every inch of my body
I will love the sound of my voice when no one else willThey tell you
that you should be soft and quiet
but I will let my laughter be loudand fill the whole room
They tell me to sit still and be proper but I will run and stumbleand won't worry about a little dirt
Loving myself is what will make me beautiful
Loving the differences in every person is what makes you beautiful what makes the other person feel beautiful
You do what you wantshow some skin or notwear some make up or not
You do you and be beautiful
because you are beautiful.
Love,
Fida
