Poetry Thursday: Inspiration

Hello Poetteers,

In chaos you can either lose yourself or find a light within it. My mind reels of the day's thoughts until I fall asleep. I try to think of something else. Ideas start coming. I write them down. Late night inspiration can go both ways. It can be really bad or really good. I think I got a good one couple nights ago. It makes me excited!
When do ideas come to you the most?

Poetry Tuesday: Instagram

Hello Poetteers,

As you may noticed I post more poetry related articles than actual poetry. I have been loving Instagram and working on posting my poetry there. I'm also currently participating in a six word challenge. It is a lot of fun. I have a few other fun things planned for Instagram, so stay tuned there.

Monday Blessings - Nature

Hello Poetteers,

I love walking in the rain or at sunset. I especially love when I get inspired while I walk. I love a good, warm cup of tea, especially when it has fresh mint from the garden. I love seeing birds hop and bunnies hopping. I love everything about nature.
What do you love about nature?

Types of Journaling

Hello Poetteers,

Most people think of journaling as a diary. That is only one type of journaling in multitude of styles.

1. Traditional Journal
This is the most known type of journaling. You keep a record of your day to day life. You reflect on your experiences and emotions.

2. Scrapbooking/Art Journal
It contains both words and sketches. It can include watercoloring or collages. It is a book of blank pages for sticking clippings, drawings, or pictures in. ListersGottaList is a good place to start. You can create lists answering the prompt and decorate the page of what represents the things on the list.

3. Bullet Journal
It is a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. I've seen people use it to track habits or log different areas of their life. It is also a place to keep spreads/collections of different lists. It is one place to keep your notes from lectures or books you read among your tasks and narrative entries. I recently got into it and you can know more by reading it. Also, there is many communities including this one where people can help you figure it all out.
4. Friendship Journal
It is a journal that would be passed around between you and a friend. It is like letters you send each other but all in one notebook.

5. Micro Journal
It is a tiny version of the traditional journal. You can create a memory jar and on scraps of paper each time something good, small or big happens you write it down and place it inside. You can write down what you are grateful for on certain days. You can write down jokes, put pictures, tokens like ticket stubs. At the end of the year you can look through it and reflect on how your year went. You can hear Tina at Overall Adventures talk about it.

Poetry Thursday: Body Part Prompt

Hello Poetteers,

Writing is something I love. I love creating. I love exploring new things. I love exploring the old and everyday things in a new light.

Poetry Prompt:

What is your favorite body part?

Why is it your favorite?

How do you use it.

List three good things.

List three bad things.

Sentence Starters:

I have…

I won’t…

Possible Poetry Type:

What is (blank)?
Pick out your favorite responses. Rearrange it to how it will sound good or like a story.

Example

Hands are there to pick you back up
there to pick up the broken pieces of you
Hands held each other
as each person prayed in their way

My hands lift you from your sorrow
and lift you to see the sun
your heart will lift up with happiness.

Hands turn into fists
pounding to see who is better
one day turning into pounding for help
but no one answers

Hands are shaking
wondering what is next
Hands pick up after the rumble
of the broken pieces
trying to piece them back together
to salvage what they can

Hands turns into peace and victory
of innocent human beings
waiting for the pounding to calm down
it is calm.

Rediscovering Poets: Liza Garza

Hello Poetteers,

Years ago I shared a video of a performance that moved me. It was a spoken word piece by Liza Garza. By mere coincidence my friend shared one of Garza's recent pieces a couple weeks ago. I was touched, again. Liza Garza is a poet, vocalist and songwriter.

My Favorite Poems:

My Everything - The first piece I heard from her. I cried while listening. This is what I love about spoken word. You can show the emotion you have of the words you say.

Dragonfly - I read the written piece before listening to the spoken piece. It talks about what I believe in.

Where You Can Find Her:

Monday Blessings #61

Hello Poetteers,

I got lucky and saw three bunnies sitting in a meadow enjoying the breeze, shade and sun. I also got to see my cat chase a bunny.

I like a cool breeze on a hot, sunny day.

I like the feeling and sweat of a good workout. You feel tired but you feel relaxed and motivated. I realized I'm more productive on the days I workout. A long walk can be enough.

I'm blessed to be working on a couple secret projects.

I've been loving banana chips. I've also been loving chocolate wafers.

What are you loving?

Fida

Getting Into Journaling

Hello Poetteers,

I've been journaling for years and I enjoy it. It's a private and intimate process.

Don't let the word scare intimidate you. It doesn't have to be a long essay about your day or your feelings. You don't have to write in it everyday.

I write long essays, short paragraphs or even just one sentence. I've missed days and beat myself up for it. I've learned that it's okay. Sometimes I write a journal entry in a poetry form.

You don't need a fancy journal or notebook. You don't even need a notebook if you feel typing it on your phone or computer is better.

Some people saying vlogging and blogging is their journaling, but I don't fully agree with that.

In your journal you are able to use strong words for how you feel and no one will see. You won't be hurting anyone in the process of healing yourself.

What is Blue, a Short Film

Hello Poetteers,

One of the things on my bucket list is to make a short film. This past week I've been filming clips here and there. It is cool to pick what goes with the poem. You get to be as creative as you want. No one else is behind you telling you if it works or not. I love the ability to experiment.  This is one of my favorite poems to have recored and I'm glad to do something special for it. I hope you enjoy listening and watching it as much as I enjoyed writing and making it.

Behind the Scenes
It takes multiple takes for you to get the right clip. I thought I filmed enough but last minute I had to do more filming. I scheduled a specific day for filming but the sky wasn't what I wanted so I hand to postpone my filming day. I had a different image in my mind when I first started but it change over the week of filming and it's better than expected.
