Those of you who’ve read my Vikings of the New World Saga books will enjoy that there are numerous references to Viking names in Belinda Blake #2, but I won’t tell you HOW those were integrated.

Cover Art REVEAL for Belinda Blake and the Snake in the Grass!

I have been so anxiously awaiting seeing the cover art for my first-in-series cozy mystery, Belinda Blake and the Snake in the Grass! It’s been live online for a while, but I couldn’t WAIT to see what cover the designers would come up with to capture Belinda and her world.
The cover isn’t live on the online vendors yet (except at Kensington Books), but I’ll share all the preorder links below. You can pick up the ebook version on preorder for $3.99. Rest assured, there will be at least two more books releasing in this series–one in October 2019, and one in February 2020! So you can own all three within a year! And there will be softcovers that will come out closer to the release date of June 25, 2019.
For now, here’s a brief description of my exotic pet-sitting, video gaming amateur sleuth!
When exotic pet-sitter Belinda Blake moves into a carriage house in tony Greenwich, Connecticut, she’s hoping to find some new clients. Instead she discovers a corpse in the garden—and a knack for solving murders . . .
Pet-sitter Belinda Blake doesn’t rattle easily, but move-in day has been eventful, to say the least.

Should You Become a Foster Parent? An Interview Series (#3)

Today’s interviewee is author Katie Powner, and this gal has written some remarkably real and practical posts regarding fostering. You can find her uplifting blog here. I’ve asked her the same questions as I did of Rachel (find her interview here) and Dena (find her interview here). As you can see, each foster parent has experienced different things, and this series is all about bringing that information to the table so YOU can be well-informed if you’re considering becoming a foster parent.
Let me introduce you to Katie:
Katie Powner is an award-winning author and mom to the third power: biological, adoptive, and foster. She loves books, red shoes, candy, and Jesus…not necessarily in that order. Check out her website at www.katiepowner.com, and she will donate $2 to the Rehoboth Children’s Home in the Philippines for every new subscriber.
INTERVIEW WITH KATIE POWNER ON HER FOSTER CARE EXPERIENCE:
HG: Could you describe the kind of foster care you provide/have provided? (ie, family placement or need-based placements).
KP: We are licensed through the state and receive calls periodically for a wide range of kids who come into the system.

Should You Become a Foster Parent? An Interview Series (#2)

I hope you enjoyed our first interview about foster parenting here on my blog. Today’s our second interview, with Dena Almond, whose family has taken in numerous foster children over the years. Dena has always been happy to answer my frantic fostering questions, especially when we first started foster care and didn’t have a clue all the hoops we’d need to jump through. She always took the time to talk me down from those ledges and she always reminded me of WHY we do this in the first place. I’m so grateful for her, and I know there are numerous children who have been touched by her and her husband and family over the years. Let’s talk with Dena today.
INTERVIEW WITH DENA ALMOND ON HER FOSTER CARE EXPERIENCE:
HG: Could you describe the kind of foster care you provide/have provided? (ie, family placement or need-based placements).
DA: We are a specialized therapeutic foster home.
HG: What would you say to parents who are concerned the foster child might be a bad influence for their children?
DA: Give the child time; time to learn the rules, time to grieve, time to process, and time to love again.

Should You Become a Foster Parent? An Interview Series (#1)

I’m kicking off a new series on foster care, because it’s been a big burden of my heart to share honest information with those who’ve been thinking about embarking on this path. Other foster parents certainly helped us get through that confusing period when you’re plunged into the system and you have no idea what to expect. If you find this series helpful, please share with others who have been considering becoming foster parents. I don’t have to tell you that the need for foster parents is huge (my drug-riddled state, West Virginia, is right at the top of the need list).
For this series, I’m interviewing some of my fostering friends. They might be named, or they might be anonymous, but they’re all sharing to help others make an informed decision. I asked my friends those tough questions you might have wondered about before taking the plunge into foster care, so you can weigh whether it’s the right choice for you and your family.
I’m always very up-front about telling people that foster care might not be the best idea for everyone–especially when there are two spouses and one isn’t ready to commit to it.

My Fave Reads of 2018

I always like seeing what my favorite authors are reading, and I figured my readers might enjoy knowing the kinds of books that stood out to me in 2018. I read pretty widely, although I’ve focused more on cozy mysteries this year, since I’m currently writing book three of a 3-book cozy series that’ll start releasing in June 2019 (the first is Belinda Blake and the Snake in the Grass, and you can preorder it for only $3.99/Kindle here).
If you want to see a complete listing of all the books I’ve read this year, please be sure to follow me on Goodreads here. There are SO many great books out there. I’m just going to weed it down to my very top reads in the categories I did read this year.
The number one book that stood out in my mind this year was The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Very few books tick all the boxes of things I like to read about (roughing it in a snowy place like Alaska, strong female protagonist, family relationships), but this one surely did.
