Forest Child 99c SALE and INSPY Nominations

Forest Child on Sale for 99c/Kindle

Hoping you all had a wonderful Christmas and a glorious time ringing in 2017!

If you’ve received a new e-reader or an Amazon gift card, now’s a great time to stock up! Forest Child is on SALE for only 99c for Kindle for a few days, marked down from its regular price of $5.99! You don’t have to read God’s Daughter before reading this one, although many go back and read it later!

Pick it up here on Amazon today!

Here are a few endorsements from Forest Child:

“Forest Child is one of the bravest works of fiction I’ve ever read. Brimming with tension, yet laced with tenderness, this powerful saga is sure to keep you turning the pages far into the night. An ingenious blend of Viking history and timeless issues of the heart still relevant today.”

~ Jocelyn Green, award-winning author of the Heroines Behind the Lines series

“Forest Child. An enthralling Viking tale coupled with the heart-rending journey of a troubled soul.

Fierce, inscrutable Freydis Eiriksdottir grabbed my heart and didn’t let go. I loved her even as I deplored her actions, mourned for her brokenness, and ultimately rejoiced in her transformation. Heather Gilbert has once again brought the Vikings to larger-than-life in the pages of Forest Child with authentic historical detail, a captivating story, and an unforgettable heroine.”

~Stephanie Landsem, author of The Living Water Series

“The Vikings of the New World Saga contains some of the most profound characterization I have ever read. Inlaid with both tension and turmoil, romance and redemption, like its predecessor God’s Daughter, Forest Child takes the reader on a journey that is anything but gentle–yet unrivaled in its poignancy. With each turn of the page, hearts are searched and the love of a mighty God has the power to triumph. By illuminating the lives of a pagan culture, we readers are given a profound reminder that our souls are of the same make as the Vikings’. The weapons we wield may not be of iron or steel, but they are just as powerful, and though our choices may not affect a village of loved ones, to seek goodness and wisdom is a call that stretches across even centuries of time. Set within a most stunning landscape, and filled with a genuine cast of characters, Forest Child is a heart-wrenching portrayal of love and humanity and one that will hold a special place in my heart.”

~ Joanne Bischof, award-winning author of The Lady and the Lionheart

Also, I wanted to let you readers know that Forest Child is also eligible for nomination in the INSPY award contest this year! This is a contest in which the best Christian fiction of the year is nominated by readers and bloggers. You can find the details here on the contest, and you can nominate Forest Child either here in Google docs or here on the contest page. The more nominations a book receives, the greater its chance of making the longlist of finalists. Here is the information you’ll need to enter:

My novella, The Distant Tide, will be exploring the era of the Norman invasions in Ireland…when the Vikings had already invaded and settled there. Here’s a little pic of what I was visualizing for the interior of the castle where my main character, Britta, lives:

Here’s a visual of a sleek longship like the one my main character, Ari, uses:

Out of Circulation Releases for Only 99c/Kindle!

OOC FB size

Just a brief post to let you know that Out of Circulation, Book 1 in the Hemlock Creek Suspense Series, releases individually for KINDLE today (it’s still also in the Smoke and Mirrors boxed set). So you can pick it up here for only 99c/Kindle!

Here’s the blurb:

Katie McClure always dreamed of becoming an FBI agent like her father, but an injury has permanently sidelined her as a librarian in her rural West Virginia hometown. Katie’s peaceful life is torn apart when armed men burst into the library, targeting her. Her fears mount after a break-in at her apartment, and she reluctantly accepts an offer of protection from Ace Calhoun, the Manhattan bodyguard who rushed to her aid against the library invaders.

But Ace didn’t show up in Hemlock Creek by accident. Even as he hides his true motives for protecting Katie, he’s pulled in by her indomitable courage and her undeniable attraction to him.

With the Russian mob breathing down her neck, the clock is ticking for Katie to find out what happened to a bank stash that went missing years ago. To her dismay, she discovers her father was not the man she believed him to be…and neither is Ace.

Here are a couple reviews of this book–click the link to visit the full reviews on the blogs!:

Christian Shelf-Esteem:

“If your bookshelf includes authors like Dani Pettrey and Lynette Eason, it will gladly welcome Heather Day Gilbert. In this novella (just over 130 pages), Gilbert leads her readers through a fast-paced tale that teems with action. From the moment an armed gunman entered the Hemlock Creek Library until the last piece of this puzzle fell into place, Gilbert’s remarkable talent as a suspense writer kept me engrossed in Kate and Ace’s predicament.”

USA Today Happy Ever After:

“Why you should read it: A librarian, a bodyguard and the Russian mob in rural West Virginia? If that sounds like a fun recipe for brewing up an exciting, small-town romance, you’re right! In Out of Circulation (Hemlock Creek Suspense, book one), versatile inspirational author Heather Day Gilbert has crafted a mouthwatering mix of romance and suspense into one sweet, novella-size bite.

Fans of romantic suspense and inspirational romance will fall in love with Ace and Katie as they race against time to satisfy the demands of a vicious crime lord. This faith-affirming, sweet romance novella is the perfect quick read for a rainy afternoon. Don’t miss it!”

And if you’d like to check out the Pinterest boards for this one, find those here!

Out of Circulation, Only 99c/Kindle!

Hope you enjoy!

#Summerreads You Can Dive Into

I often see people looking for new authors and for fun summer reads. I’d like to share a few that I have read and that I tend to recommend frequently. All of these Kindle books are under $5, my friends! And one is free!

I’m going to post my review below each book so you know why I enjoyed it. Click the bolded book title to find it on Amazon.

summer books

Juliette and the Monday ManDates by Becky Doughty (FREE on Amazon):

My Review:

Lighthearted read about the sisterly bonds that run deep. Getting into one tricky situation after another, Juliette Gustafson is endearing as she tries to get past her ex, Mike. I love how her sisters and friend rally around her, prodding her to move forward again. The backstory on this adds extra depth to our understanding of Juliette’s emotional state, and her spiritual journey is one many can relate to. I loved following along with Juliette on her dates and felt I could “see” this book playing out, almost like a movie.

And Victor…enigmatic cop with that Darcy-esque push/pull effect…only I liked him better than Darcy. Cannot wait to read the next sister’s story–all the sisters are so interesting.

(I recommend this as a humorous read that is the start to an amazing series about sisters.)

The Secret Life of Book Club by Heather Woodhaven:

My Review:

Oh my goodness! I soaked this book up. I felt like the four main characters in the book club were friends. I loved the realism with the marriage/children dynamics. And the adventures had me LOL-ing so often! Three words: fake cop car. That scenario was so vivid! I hope against hope Heather has another book coming out soon along these lines, because this one was excellent. A new fave.

(This book will make you laugh. VERY often.)

The Short and Sincere Life of Ellory James by Wendy Paine Miller:

My Review:

Once again Miller takes us into the head of an unforgettable character–this time, it’s Ellory James. While this novella is a tearjerker, it’s not handled so heavily I felt depressed at the end. In fact, many times throughout I was laughing-out-loud at Ellory’s antics with her neighbor, Pete. The incident with parasailing springs to mind.

Inventive, lyrical, and rich, this is the kind of short fiction I love to sink my teeth into.

(Shorter read that manages to bring a serious theme (teen cancer) to life with humor.)

Crowned by Christina Coryell:

My Review:

Coryell is one of my new go-to contemporary authors. Although she writes light, amusing dialogue and situations, deeper threads run through the Girls of Wonder Lane series that leave me reflecting on my own life.

I was intrigued by Harley Laine, reporter, in the last novel (Simply Mad), and Crowned shares her story in such a poignant way. She’s a little like a modern-day Scarlett O’hara, chasing after the wrong things, focusing on outward appearance…until God shows her what’s really important. I love how even though Harley seems superficial, she’s really masking a deeply loving and giving heart that others see in her more than she can see in herself.

Another winner and I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series!

(This novel had a depth I don’t find often in contemporary romance. Book One, Simply Mad, is another fun read.)

This Quiet Sky by Joanne Bischof:

My Review:

With deft skill, Joanne Bischof’s smooth writing voice once again sweeps readers into a simpler time—one mirroring the sadness and joys we feel today. In a world that grapples with why God allows bad things to happen to good people, Bischof’s novella offers true hope that carries us to the other side of grief. This Quiet Sky ministers to teens and adults who face unexpected loss, reminding us this world is not our home. A keeper.

(Also a similar theme to A Fault in Our Stars, but presenting the hope of Christ, which gives it a much better tone. This is one of the best novellas I’ve read).

Finally, for engrossing, high-paced romantic reads, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our Smoke and Mirrors romantic suspense collection! It’s back to a 99c/Kindle price and it’s free for Kindle Unlimited. For this one, I’ll post some reader reviews:

Smoke Mirrors 3D

Smoke and Mirrors Collection by Connie Almony, Sally Bradley, Hallee Bridgeman, Heather Day Gilbert, Kelli Hughett, Alana Terry, Rachel Trautmiller, and Alexa Verde

Reader Reviews on Amazon:

“A fast paced variety of suspense stories bringing faith and relationships together in each story. A great read.”

“Every novella was amazing in its own right! Full of suspense, thrills, action and of course some romance!! I wish I could pick a favorite in the set but I can’t they were all good. And at the end of each one, I wanted more!”

“Great mystery and suspense, along with romance and Christian values. Best deal in ages.”

(Remember this collection will be available for a limited time only! Hours of reading enjoyment and I know you’ll find a new author to love!)

So there are a few suggestions if you’re in the summer doldrums, looking for a good read. I hope you can check out these amazing authors!

-Heather
