The BITE SOMEBODY Fantasy Movie Cast

BiteSomebody_finalBITE SOMEBODY,availableJune 21st, is full of characters. I don’t mean in the literal sense that there are lots of people running around; I mean characters, like the kind of people you don’t forget, either because they’re that weird or they’re that awesome. Depends on your POV.

Whenever I write, I base my characters on real people, usually actors, because I’d get in too much trouble if I based fictional characters on, say, crazy relatives or that lady who talks to her cats. I digress …

So who...

Longboat Key: The Real BITE SOMEBODY Location

The Florida locale where all Bite Somebodyhijinks go down is referred to in the book as “Admiral Key,” but it’s based on a real place in Florida called Longboat Key. My family has been vacationing there since long before I was old enough to drink rum punches. Now, every year, my Aunt Susie (and sometimes my mom) head down to Longboat Key for what we call “The Bite Somebody Pilgrimage.” I was just there in April, and I brought back photos of not only the real locations but also … a real charac...

“Sick Like Me” in Honeydew Erotic Review

I never asked for feedback when I wrote my short story, “Sick Like Me,” based on a song of the same name by In This Moment. (The music video is fantastic. Watch it HERE.) I just wrote something that was twisted and sexy with motorcycles and teacher-student seduction. I sent “Sick Like Me” off to magazines. Then, miraculously, it got accepted.

Honeydew editor Fiona Martine saidtwo things really sold the story for her:
1) Dialogue about John Waters
2) A very sexy throat bite

Yes, there’s explic...

Unmasked: Flash Fiction

maskeffect

“She looks surprised,” the woman said.

The man standing next to her held his champagne glass in the air, where it swallowed light from the chandelier—light he then poured down his throat. He said, “Wouldn’t you be if you woke and found your head nailed to a wall?”

“I’ve woken to worse,” she replied. She pulled on her black fur shawl, newly purchased by her husband who thought buying things meant buying her love. “Why did you bring me here, anyway? You know I hate these gala events. Everyone’...

This Rocky Horror remake really pisses me off

tim-curry

No. Just no. I watched the teaser for Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show remake, to air in October, and just … no.Look, I’m happy that maybe this remake will introduce a whole new generation of viewers to the glory that is Dr. Frank N. Furter, but …

No, I’m lying.

Tim Curry is and forever will be Dr. Frank N. Furter. I mean no disrespect to Laverne Cox, who I’m sure will do a good job, but from what the teaser showed me, she’s just doing a Tim Curry impersonation. AND why is a woman playing thi...

Gone Girl ruined women’s fiction

gone-girl

As part of my job, I review books, which means I receive about nine advance review copies a week. Yes, nine. My husband just loves the immense stack of never-to-be-read books piledwilly-nilly in my office. Why will some books—many books—never be read?

Because they’re all the same book.

I’m not saying I blame Gillian Flynn for the current overbearing trend in women’s literature. In fact, I think she’s extremely talented and introduced a groundbreaking genre with her masterpiece Gone Girl. The...

Escape rooms: Getting TRAPPED in Cleveland

I was at my parents’ house when my friend, Heather, texted and suggested we do something called “Trapped Cleveland.” She sent me a link, and I thought she was kidding. According to the link, she wanted me to be locked in a room for an hour with other people. I laughed. Oh, Heather: what a jokester!

She sent me another link and asked which weekend I was available.

At this point, I called my gal paland started screaming something to the tune of “I have an anxiety disorder I am claustrophobic I...

Suicide involves more than one person

Avoid it?
Embrace it?
Drown in it?

Forget Me Do” is a story of pain but also of magic. Published today in Rose Red Review, this one is dedicated to dear friend, gifted editor, and brilliant woman Trysh … who understands.
