Don’t Stop Salting (How to Avoid Heresy)

As I write this, South Carolina is preparing herself for a winter storm--the result of high pressure from Canada and precipitation from the Gulf Coast. If you’re not familiar with living in the South, even a few inches could cripple a city for two or three days.

The problems are manifold, no snow plows, no salt, lack of frequent snow; but the real problem lies with our average temperature.

Review: John Stott’s Christ in Conflict

John Stott. Christ in Conflict. IVP Books, 2013. 208 pages. $12.06 Paperback. $9.39 Kindle.

I have a confession. Christ in Conflict is the first John Stott book I’ve read. Sad it’s taken me so long to join the club. If you’ve never read Stott, think winsome engagement. This book undertakes important and difficult topics, topics that are under attack today. Stott, while unabashed in his

My Next Book Project: Tolkien, the Christian Faith, and Discipleship

If you missed it, I wrote a series on God in Middle-Earth at the end of last year. It was one my most popular series for that year. It also had a ridiculously long name which was contracted by the good folks at Gospel Centered Discipleship when they picked up the series at their blog. I’m using their shortened name for the series for now--God in Middle-Earth.

Why am I telling you all of this?

Owen Strachan has written a practical and provocative book on Gospel risk. Now you may thinking, “Ugh another book on radical Christian living?” Well in a way yes and also in some considerable ways no. Owen launches from Jesus’ parable in

Review: R. Michael Allen’s Justification and the Gospel

If you plan on purchasing Justification and the Gospel, consider supporting Grace for Sinners by purchasing from Amazon.

Author: R. Michael Allen
Publisher: Baker Academic

Introduction
Is justification by faith alone the articulus stantis et cadentis ecclesiae (the article by which the church stands or falls)? For as long as I can remember as a Christian, I’ve

A Household Gospel on NoiseTrade Books

NoiseTrade Books opened today. If you’re familiar with their set up for music, it’s more of the same for books. I for one think this is brilliant. Basically, they provide publishers and writers a landing page where people can download their books, samples, or audiobooks. Those people can choose to download it for free, but they can also leave a tip.

For someone like myself who published

Servants of Grace Guest Post: “God So Loved”

Today I’m contributing at Servants of Grace, a blog collective run by Dave Jenkins. SOG has a series on love running and I tackle God’s covenant love and its implications in a fallen world.

In December, my third daughter was born. The birth of a child is such a surreal experience. I’m amazed every time I witness the birth of one of my children. You would think it might become ordinary, but it

A Household Gospel for the Abused

Some may disagree with gender role distinctions, but it should at least be admitted that however much one disagrees with them there’s nothing intrinsically abusive about these roles when we tether them to Christ. You cannot sacrificially lead and abuse your family (verbally, spiritually, physically, or in any way). The biblical picture of headship is from God. He doesn’t abuse. Paul doesn’t

Review: John Piper’s Five Points

If you plan on purchasing Five Points, consider supporting Grace for Sinners by purchasing from Amazon.

Author: John Piper
Publisher: Christian Focus
Reading Level: Leisure

John Piper is no stranger to the scene of evangelical Christianity. He is a stalwart member of the Young, Restless, and Reformed. It shouldn’t be a surprise to see him write a book on a subject matter like Calvinism,
