The Gospel Mandate

When God creates Adam, he says man and woman are made in His image. They are children of God and sub-creators. They are commanded to have dominion and multiply.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.

A Household Gospel: Redemption and Consummation

An excerpt from A Household Gospel, “Mutuality in Marriage” (76-78)

Redemption
God doesn’t immediately reveal the mystery of the gospel in marriage. Humanity lives in the shadows until Jesus breaks into the story (Gal 3:28). I love how the angels proclaim His arrival, “‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’” (Lk 2:14). That singular

A Household Gospel Audiobook

Creating this audiobook has been tedious, I’m not gonna lie. I already spend all day talking on the phone at my day job so to come home and record this took its toll on my voice. Thank the Lord it’s done. I hope you can benefit from the effort.

I know a lot of people who just can’t find time to read and the only opportunity they have for free time may be driving in their car or during their

Social Media Ain’t a Covenant Community (or Why Social Media Shouldn’t be a Spectator’s Sports)

Count me as a friend of technology and social media. In fact, I recently wrote a piece for the CBMW Manual blog argue for the God glorifying benefits of technology and social media. God created all things and said, “This is good.” As Christians, we start there. He also gave us the command to create, work, and have dominion. The good includes these endeavors, and, therefore, includes our work

Review: Andrew Louth’s Introducing Eastern Orthodox Theology

Andrew Louth. Introducing Eastern Orthodox Theology. IVP Academic, 2013. 172 Pages. $15.87 Paperback.

There is possibly no tradition in Christianity that requires an introduction more stringently than Eastern Orthodoxy. With the heart of the tradition residing in Turkey, a history of painful separation from the western church and a complete lack of Augustinian thought in their theology,

Sexual Abuse and the Gospel

Many of you may not know my alma mater is Bob Jones University. I went to high school and college at what Al Jazeera network calls the “fortress of fundamentalism.” I was a born and bred fightin’ fundie. I don’t regularly keep up with what goes on at BJU. Most of the news I hear comes from friends and family who are still involved in one way or another with fundamentalism.

I’ve been

For The Men Who Will Hold Their Hearts by John Coakley, Jr.

The End of a Typical Day
As my daughters prepare for bed at night, one of the last things my family and I do together is pray. It is one of the sweetest moments of my day. One of which, admittedly, I’ve taken for granted more than once. Sometimes, I’m just not mentally there with them. My thoughts seem to linger back to the work from earlier in the days or to the homework waiting for me at my
