"... excellent reading"
"Whenever I come to the end of a good book, I find myself reading a little slower, feeling sad too that this pleasure is almost over. This is one of these books written by Nancy Young.
Thorough research, a keen sense of observation of places, combined with the deep understanding of people who live in these different parts of the world, make this book so very special. She describes the people of countries I have lived in part of my life. Reading this book was a wonderful experience for me. It brought me back into places, where I have lived and connected with wonderful people so many years ago.
I highly recommend this book. I know I shall read it again in the very near future.

***** A rich, human, spiritual, and magical tale of family, love, struggle, and redemption...
"Strum gives us a glimpse into a very personal American-European-Asian universe that reads like biography, historical fiction, romance, fairy tale, ghost-story, travel-guide, music appreciation text, and prayer all at once. It acclaims the inter-connectivity of everything, living and material, that weaves the tapestry of a life well-lived. It is an audacious and marvelous first novel and I look forward to Ms. Young's future work."

Another great review for Strum
Here is another recent review:
"I was enchanted. I am not a critic in any way but I must say that your research on the various regions you did was quite remarkable. I am a romantic and your novel was full of mystical marvels. A bit of fantasy I do always appreciate and your novel has a good amount of that. Congratulations on your first, quite successful novel, full of glamour, fascinating locations and the pepper of a bit of sex always good addition. Yes, I certainly believe it would make a great film." C.A. (Sept.16, 2013)Strum

Brené Brown interview
A man once told me, "My whole life, I never got too excited about anything. That way if things didn't work out, I wasn't devastated, and if they did, it was a pleasant surprise." And when this man was in his 60s, his wife of 40 years was killed in a car accident. He told me, "The second I realized she was gone, I knew I should have leaned harder into those moments of joy. Because not doing so did not protect me from what I feel now." It's like we're trying to dress-rehearse tragedy so we can beat vulnerability to the punch.

Strum: A Novel by Nancy Young
Here's the latest review of my book, Strum:
"I finished reading your book Sunday evening. First, I want to say, you are a very talented writer with an extraordinary command of the English language. Your descriptions of nature, emotions, and events are remarkable... At times, parts of the book took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes..."

Strum: A Novel by Nancy Young
Save the Date and come! I'm now in the Vroman's Bookstore Local Authors event on Oct. 26th @ 4 pm!
I might make Strum t-shirts to mark this occasion - working as a cashier and gift-wrapper @ Vroman's was one of my favorite jobs in high school/college. I see it as a "homecoming." Hoping my whole JMHS Class of '81 will come out!
Meanwhile, I'm on first this Sunday Aug 11 @ 4:30 pm @ Apostrophe Books in Long Beach. Did you know that Apostrophe was the bookstore filmed in the movie, "Knocked Up" when it was still in Pasadena at the Paseo? So, in a way it's also a homecoming...?!

The concert was held on July 30 @ 5:30 pm at Long Beach Main Library to an auditorium of parents and kids - set to the magical sounds of the Sound Effects Orchestra.
