This writing life has some real magic in it, and I look forward to attending this workshop throughout the year. We work hard, believe it or not.

To date I attribute two books to inspiration and confidence gained via the Women Reading Aloud Workshop in Alonissos. The latest is my first Non-Fiction, Nobody Told Me Love in the Time of Dementia.

For the past few years I've worked hard, and wrote long hours. There have been many all-night writes for the past few years. This year I'm moving at a slower pace. I'll continue to write, but I'm making time for book signings and book clubs, and family and friends if they still remember me.

That term makes me think we're talking about people who are thinking about writing, but haven't started yet--because if you're spending your time writing down your stories, you're a writer, published or not.

My advice would be to write--a lot--expect to sacrifice something in order to have writing time. You'll never "find" time to write. You have to take it, you have to steal it. I gave up television and a social life in order to spend the bulk of my time writing.

If you want to be published, you're embarking on a career, the writing world is a business like any endeavor. I'd recommend not worrying about that part if that reality overwhelms you. Just write. It takes time to find your voice and learn how to write your stories so that the reader gets the story. What I mean is what you have in your head must be translated onto the page in such a way that your reader is getting what you see. That takes time and trial and error. The way you get to that place is to write, write, write.

After you have a book written, or several, that you know are good--just jump right on into the writing world. You'll probably find many writers are more than willing to give you advice and information. We want to read more good stories! Give yourself time, and try to be patient, the process will take too long, but you CAN succeed as long as you NEVER give up, and NEVER stop writing.

Welcome. We've been waiting for you.

Sometimes dolphins follow the ferry.

In a bit more than two weeks I leave for my annual trip to Alonissos. Currently I'm annoying the stuffing out of my husband with it. Since I stay a month, everything that I won't be here to do must be done NOW. Right. Now.

When I return we're having much-needed work done on our house. That means getting all of that organized an... Read more of this blog post »

This is an easy read. It surprised me and I read and write so much that usually I can see how everything is going to unfold. At least I like to think so. I didn't see this coming.

I enjoyed the up-to-date technology, how Sarah stalked Eddie online. I

Meh. It's the play. Maybe that should be obvious, but I assumed the book would be a book. It's verbatim the play/movie which I've seen so many times I knew the whole thing by heart. Still, I stuck with it. For me the humor was obvious without actors ...more

The Mortal Storm by Phyllis Bottome
"Extraordinary on so many levels. When I started reading, the writing style lulled me into the belief that I was nosing into an old fashioned comfortable yarn. Far from it! Written by a British woman in 1938 it emphatically lays bare the myth that..." Read more of this review »

“10 Steps to Becoming a Better Writer

Write.
Write more.
Write even more.
Write even more than that.
Write when you don’t want to.
Write when you do.
Write when you have something to say.
Write when you don’t.
Write every day.
Keep writing.”
Brian Clark

“Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong.”
