The Final Calling Excerpt #2

I’d been keeping my eye open for another tidbit from The Final Calling to share with everyone while I’m getting the first half of the book finalized, and I finally found one! Granted, it’s not precisely the one I thought I’d be sharing, but I thought it might whet some people’s appetites lol[image error]
So what does a mage do when she finds out she’s a shameless demon’s mate? Talk to her friends who know about him, of course. And what do Isaac’s friends think of him, anyway?

“I can’t wait to hear about Mystikkar,” Charlotte mentioned. “Ulric’s told me some things, and it sounds impressive.”
“Yeah, impressive’s one way to put it, kinda like your home,” Edith grinned, looking the place over. “So when can I move in?”
Her friend laughed. “Don’t you want to check the inside first?”
“Don’t think I’ll need to,” she replied, her gaze anywhere but on her feet as Charlotte took her inside—and it was just as lavish as she’d suspected.
Knowing Charlotte as well as she did, it was easy to pick out which decorations were hers, and what had been Ulric’s idea. But though they had different tastes, the styles meshed extremely well, giving the home an inviting atmosphere while maintaining a sense of class.
During her brief tour, Edith mentioned, “This place is so badass. You guys have really put some work into it.”
“It’s still not finished, but it’s livable now,” Charlotte qualified, then gave a questioning look. “By the way, what took you so long? I thought you were just changing clothes or something.”
“Oh,” Edith sighed, hesitating over explaining what happened in her apartment, and Charlotte took notice.
“Is something wrong?”
They’d just adjourned to the game room where Edith was too distracted by the fact that her best friend had a bowling alley in her home to immediately respond. But she tore her attention away from it with a dejected sigh.
“I’m not sure, actually. It’s just … okay, after we hung up, I was attacked in my apartment.”
“Attacked? By who?”
Edith waved it away, promising, “I’ll explain that part in a minute, and don’t worry, I’m fine. Someone you know intervened before anything happened, and I’m not sure what to think of the things he said.” Or did.
Suspiciously, the confusion on Charlotte’s face turned to enlightenment. “Let me guess. Isaac.”
Edith quirked a brow. “That’s too accurate for a guess.”
“Okay, it wasn’t a guess,” Charlotte admitted, taking a seat at the bar. “What did he say?”
“He said I’m his mate, on top of other things.”
“Other things?”
“Uh huh,” Edith drew out blandly. “Let’s just say he’s been having erotic dreams about me, and wasn’t ashamed to admit it. In detail.”
As if such behavior was completely normal for the demon, Charlotte groaned and rubbed her eyes, leaving Edith wondering what, exactly, her friend might tell her about him. But their conversation was momentarily interrupted when Ulric entered the room.
“Hey, did I hear Edi—oh, guess I did.”
Charlotte grinned, leaning up to give him a kiss before she mentioned, “Yep, and guess who she just met.”
Looking between them curiously, Ulric drew out, “I see.”
Perturbed by his response, Edith asked without pause, “Okay, how bad is this guy? I mean really?”
Using Ulric’s nickname, Charlotte returned, “Ask Yules, he knows Isaac better than I do.”
Ulric shrugged. “Maybe you should explain everything that’s happened first.”
Without hesitation, Edith did just that, starting with the attack, and Ulric listened patiently. But by the time she reached the end of the story, he was pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Yeah, that’s Isaac.”
Edith had no idea what to think. “So should I be worried?”
“Not really,” he began, lifting his head to add, “Isaac would never hurt you, that I can promise. He’s just … tactless and impatient.”
“Crude,” Charlotte supplied.
“But loyal,” Ulric countered.
Charlotte conceded the point with a nod, and Edith groaned. None of their talk sounded completely promising, but just before she made up her mind to avoid the demon at all costs, a third voice qualified, “He’s also on his way here now.”
Edith looked to see her mentor standing in the doorway. “Chandra, why didn’t you tell me?”
“That you’re his mate? I thought to spare you as much heartache as I could for as long as possible.”
“Guess I should thank you, but a little warning would’ve been nice.”
“I told you a demon would be hounding you. But I’d like to speak in private if you don’t mind.”
Edith certainly didn’t, joining the sorceress in a study located down the hall to hear what she had to say.

Fallen Hearts is now on Kobo

So, Fallen Hearts was published back in October, and in all that time, it had never been listed on Kobo despite the fact that I opted to distribute there. I had no idea why, and tried a few methods to fix the problem, but still no go.
It was starting to get irritating. =|
So last week, I decided to try once more before sending out an email explaining the problem, and opted out briefly, then opted back in. They said it’d take about 1-3 business days to see results after shipping, which meant Tuesday of this week. So when I realized today was Wednesday, I checked, and lo and behold, there it was![image error]
So, for anyone who’s a Kobo shopper and hadn’t found this book available on your preferred retailer’s website yet, here it is!
Thanks guys! The rest of the buy links are below!❤

The Final Calling Release Date
So, I’d mentioned in my voice blog that I’m shooting for a June 3rd release of The Final Calling, and thought I’d go ahead and share this even though that date may end up getting tweaked. [image error]

Voice Blog!
So! Here’s a very out-of-the-ordinary voice post! I’ve found it harder to actually write out blog updates recently, and thought this might be a faster way to get what I needed to say out there with possibly less fuss. THAT SAID! Yes, I have a southern accent, and I also think I sound kind of redundant at times. Perhaps I ramble/mumble? Either way, this is my first time doing this, so I was nervous, and I’m sorry!
Topics discussed here involve Blue Moon, my progress on The Final Calling, reviews, and my love of writing magic! WARNING: Some parts may involve minor spoilers for Light of Dawn! [image error]

Blue Moon- Angela Colsin
Blue Moon just got a great review from whatabookwants.com! Thanks sooooooooo much! And yes, just to let the cat, er, wolf out of the bag, I do intend to revisit Cade’s family in the future! [image error]
Last week I read Blue Moon, book one of the Crucible series, by Angela Colsin and I really enjoyed the introduction into this new world. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I’m looking forward to reading more! I was kind of expecting a quick and easy read where the main characters would meet, immediately fall in love, and live happily ever after (the story ends before it really begins) but there is more to it than that in Blue Moon.

I’ve written earlier about my struggles to get reviewed on Amazon. I definitely wasn’t going to pay for good reviews (Unethical!) and I decided to avoid asking friends and family to rev…

Mapping a World
I think a lot of people harbor under the misconception that writing a story, regardless of the content, only consists of, well, writing. Write the words down, that’s all it takes, right?
WRONG.
There’s a lot that goes into stories, even the most basic and shortest story you could read. Much of this revolves around research and fact checking, but some of it extends further, for example, map making :D
I’ll admit, I’ve always been fascinated by maps. I’m definitely an author by definition, but my day job involves studying maps and blah blah technical jargon goes here. In any case, maps are extremely interesting. I often look at them and wonder if a landmark might have been involved in some mysterious event that was never fully explained, or how a battle might have been waged when this river blocked the entrance to this valley, etc.. Simply put, maps hold stories for us to discover.
That said, anyone who’s read my books may recall Ulric mentioning in Light of Dawn that draconians hale from another realm entirely, called Ithelyon. There are also allusions to Mystikkar throughout my stories (a.k.a. the City of Magic) which also happens to be in Ithelyon–and we will finally be getting a chance to see some of it in The Final Calling. Yay!
Anyway, point being, worlds need maps, and I’d definitely had an idea in mind for Ithelyon for quite some time, just not extreme specifics. But with the way the story goes in The Final Calling, I’ve had to not only plan one, but two different realms. Actually, three if you count … wait, I’m not handing out spoilers here :D
But the most important is Ithelyon, and I wanted to put my thoughts down, not just in story form, but map form as well. So I started working on it (not at the expense of writing the story itself, however!) and I actually have a very nice work in progress to provide.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with the basic quality, though I’ll admit I don’t have every landmark down here (still not handing out spoilers lol). A friend asked if I was going to include this map as an insert in the book once it’s published, and I’m considering it, but I don’t want to clutter my story with a bunch of side notes and yadda yadda. But hey! That’s what blogs and websites and so on are for, right? :D
This map is a smaller piece of a much larger image, and the overall project is still in the works (it’s not easy building a world after all). But I thought I’d share just because I’m easily excited and all that :P
Cheers! :D

Fallen Hearts by Angela Colsin
So, Debra from geeksneakpeek.net just reviewed Fallen Hearts, and I’m floored, not to mention extremely grateful my series was enjoyable to read! And don’t worry guys, I’ll have Edith and Isaac’s book done soon! (I’m predicting a May/June release) :D
Fallen Hearts is Book 4 of The Crucible Series by Angela Colsin, an independent author I recently found.
As always, first the Blurb:
Most humans live in blissful ignorance of the supernatural, unable to see what they don’t believe exists. Such used to be the lot of Stephan Forrester, a normal mortal leading a regular life, at least until the day vampires abducted him. With his family murdered in the attack, Stephan finds himself alone and dying of an obscure, incurable illness contracted in the vampires’ lair.
Using what time he has left to seek justice, Stephan sets out to eliminate the offenders until only one remains. However, locating this final target means doing something he doesn’t think possible—actually working with a vampire.
Entombed against her will and forced to hibernate for seventy years, Maddox only awakens when a mortal with a vendetta frees her from the grave. He…
