Fae & Witches – The Crucible Paranormal Romance Series

So, as promised, here’s the post for the Fae and Witches! [image error]

I had a lot of fun with developing this one! I’ve always loved the idea that there are these magical beings roaming the woods and other natural areas that protect it and even foster it. I like to imagine them as being both beautiful, and terrible if they’re threatened or otherwise provoked. The fae are all female–life givers–and there are various types with different abilities based on the landscape that engendered them. In the series to date, we’ve only encountered two types, the green fae and sun fae, but rest assured, we’ll be seeing more of them as time goes on! [image error]

One of my most favoritest (I know, not a word, but I BREAK RULES lol) supernatural beings are witches. I based a lot of the development on them in my series on actual occult and pagan practices utilized in the real world, but perhaps added a few “flourishes” here and there. There’s magic in nature, after all, whether you’d like to think of that magic as being something as physical as a sunrise, or more intangible such as one of nature’s many mysteries, and that’s where these practitioners draw their strength. For this reason, witches/warlocks aren’t actually a race of beings, so to speak. Some humans are born with an inherent connection to the energies of the world around them, but anyone can pick up the practice of “The Craft” and start casting spells.

The success of these spells simply depends on the practitioner’s knowledge and skill.

Lupines & Draconians – The Crucible Paranormal Romance Series

So, I decided to do some images featuring information that’s provided on on the races at the beginning of each of my stories in the preface. Then, I got silly, and decided to animate them. When I was done animating them, I thought, “Now what?”

Thankfully, the answer came pretty easily; share them here!

But more than that, I wanted to take the chance that sharing them would offer to talk more about my series and the supernatural beings featured in them. To date, we’ve seen Lupines, Draconians, Fae, Witches, Werewolves, Vampires, and with The Final Calling, Mages and Demons (or Perosian Demons anyway). I’ve taken the opportunity to expand on these beings with each book I’ve written, which has, so far, never featured the same type of being “starring” in a story twice. This doesn’t mean I haven’t planned from the beginning to go back and revisit characters from previous storylines, which I have, and will say now that, though The Final Calling hasn’t been released yet, the 6th book in my series promises to do that very thing.

Lupines were one of the first races I developed for my series. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I have a huge soft spot for werewolves (and “shifter” races in general), but I wanted to do something a little different with the Lupines in The Crucible Series. These are “mortal Werewolves” as the image states, though that’s not a very accurate description considering Lupines aren’t werewolves at all (Strange Brew really hammers this truth home). Unlike werewolves, Lupines are mortal, turn into actual wolves (though they’re a good bit bigger than the garden variety wolf), and can blend in with humans with very little trouble. Packs consider the city they dwell within to be their territory, and they typically live out their lives much like the humans they’re hidden amongst.

Draconians are also one of the first races I developed, and I have to admit, I feel like this animation is a little one-sided lol! Ulric explained in Light of Dawn that there are a total of five “Houses” (i.e., clans) that Draconians belong to, and each of these Houses were sired by one of the Great Dragons found in their home realm of Ithelyon. The reason I feel this image is kind of one-sided is that not all Draconians have abilities based on lightning. Some utilize fire, some ice, and others? Well, let’s just say it depends on which Great Dragon sired their House, and leave it at that for now[image error]

But I had to use lightning in this image because Ulric belongs to House Dra’Kai, Dra’Kai being the blue dragon who’s abilities pretty much encompass electricity, so it seemed fitting[image error]

One of the hardest things for me to decide on when developing this race was what the difference between their “normal forms” and their state of wrath was. I went through a number of descriptions before I finally settled on what we see in the books, but I knew from the start that I didn’t want them to be shifters or turn into some type of draconic creature. That kind of thing seemed overdone to me (though I do enjoy stories about “dragon people” so to speak XD), so I was hoping to keep that “fresh”.

So that does it for this post. Tune in next time when I talk about Fae, Witches/Warlocks, and the question of why I can never find what I need when I need it, but when I don’t, it’s always within reach. =|

Cheers!

The Final Calling is releasing on June 3rd, and is now available for preorder at the following retailers:
Nook

Kindle

iBooks

Excerpt #1

Excerpt #2

Synopsis: Prophecies, tyrants, assassins, and exiled royalty aren’t the things Edith Walsh thought she’d be dealing with when her training as a mage apprentice began. Her main focus is becoming an enchantress by completing the Final Calling—a grand scavenger hunt all apprentices undertake to gather items needed to craft their coveted staff and gain eternal life.

This challenge can prove lethal if care isn’t taken to watch one’s steps. But making matters worse, Edith has also been marked for death by the Steward of the Perosian Empire, a tyrant named Rothario, all because of a pesky prophecy made centuries before her birth foretelling his demise at her hands.

So what’s a mage to do? Simple; accept the assistance of a sexy Perosian who’s dealt with Rothario’s minions for as long as he can remember. Yet Isaac wants far more than Edith’s safety—she’s his mate, and his fiery gaze, wicked tongue, and shameless seductions inflame her more intensely than she’s ever known.

Convicted of murdering the imperial family of Perosia, Isaac’s spent centuries as a fugitive hunted by a homeland he doesn’t recall. But his ruthless talent for survival serves him well, and there’s nothing he won’t do to protect Edith from the forces threatening her life, even if it means sacrificing his own.

So, I’ve made the final edits on my newest manuscript and I’ve gotten it formatted and uploaded for release on June 3rd! I’ll have a list of links where you can preorder it in an “official” announcement post soon, but for now, I wanted to comment a little on the editing process.

My poor genius scenes! They had to be cut!

Paranormal Lit Club

Some of you may or may not know this, but I’ve been working on putting together a message board for fans of the paranormal genre (you know, romance, mystery, horror, fantasy, that type of thing), and the board is finally up and running (though still under construction)!

plc2

Still, I’ll bet you’re wondering what the point would be. Okay, maybe you’re not, but that’s what this post is about, so here goes.

I wanted to open this forum because of the opportunities it could offer to both readers and writers alike. The first good thing about this board is that there won’t be an overwhelming number of members posting a bajillion things at once, and even when the member count does increase? Posts will be easier to sort through than say those on a facebook group that are constantly getting bumped into oblivion, never to be seen or heard from again–much like the characters in some paranormal mysteries lol! Actually, I think we’re more likely to hear from some of those characters again than we are to see the aforementioned posts about the books they’re found in.

So there’s a better chance here to connect with people, chat about your favorite paranormal books, and just have a little fun. Naturally, this won’t get going unless people join, introduce themselves, and start chatting it up, but that’s one of the biggest pros about this. This forum is in its infancy, offering a lot of opportunity to network and meet people as long as they sign up, post, and share. [image error]

So if you’re a fan of paranormal books, please feel free to join and start chatting!

The Crucible Series Box Set Now on Kobo

3dboxset_500
So, it came to my attention this morning that Kobo has not only added Fallen Hearts to its catalogue, but also my box set containing the first three books of The Crucible Series! And that wasn’t actually the only surprise waiting for me.

Goodreads just added The Final Calling to my list of books! That was crazy fast. Someone seriously needs to give kudos to their staff/librarians lol! [image error]

So, I’ve edited the proper pages, including those on my blog, to get all of the links updated and ready for mass clicking. Or solo clicking. Whatever clicking you throw at them. I’m sure they’ll be able to handle it. Unless the website is down of course. But that’s not my fault. What was I talking about again? =|

In any case, feel free to click over to goodreads and add The Final Calling to your TBR list, or just look around and see if anything else strikes your fancy here. As a side note, I’ll continue to update as soon as I have links to provide, and nice, shiny news to offer! Cheers!

Updates R Us!

Man, do I have a lot of updates to throw at everyone. So watch your head or something, don’t wanna accidentally hit someone lol! [image error] In fact, I think I may do this in bullet point form, so here goes:

The Final Calling is already available for preorder from iBooks!

• My blog has a new banner wee (see below)!

• The Final Calling has also been listed on Smashwords!

• I’ve commissioned art of Chandra from Reellifejaneway!

• Website updates have been made accordingly!

blogbanner

So, everything’s going smoothly as far as getting the manuscript on The Final Calling finalized, I’m just waiting on more beta reader feedback before I go in and do any last edits to the story. As for that commission I mentioned above, it’s going to take some time to actually get the art done because the artist is facing a hard time right now, but I’ll be back along to report updates once I get them!

BUT SERIOUSLY. CHECK OUT HER WORK! She is totally freaking amazing and I can’t wait to see what she might come up with for Chandra! ❤❤❤

Thanks again everyone and I hope you're having a great day! I'll be sure to get a post up with preorder links for The Final Calling as soon as they're available!

Cheers!
