Are you doing the GoodReads Challenge?

It’s January again, which means people are setting (and as it’s already half way through the month, have already set) goals for the coming year. One of the goals I always set is with GoodReads.

Their handy widget makes it easy to set down a goal for how many books you want to read, and if you’re a semi-constant user, it helps you keep track of where you are with it. This will be my sixth year

Out Today: Out of Light and Darkness, Skinner Luce, Eleanor, etc

Of Light and Darkness by Shayne Leighton –
Raised by a Vampire in a secret society of Witches, Shifters, and Elves, Charlotte finds that she is the freak in her world of magic and wonder. When she stands before an army of impossible obstacles, the likelihood of survival in this coming-of-age modern fairy tale is slim, resulting in a war between light and darkness.
Charlotte knows no

Back to the Grindstone

While I did get some work done this past week while on vacation, it was not nearly what I’d hoped to achieve. As such, I’ll be playing catch-up like crazy this week. (Wish me luck)

Since I’m on a hard-schedule, I thought I’d share two of the ways I keep myself on track (usually).

Calendar/Schedule
For Writing, most of the time, I only use a calendar set-up to keep track of what I’ve done. I’ve

What "Vacation" Is Like as an Author

I’m on “Vacation” this week.
That means I’m still writing and revising and dealing with the
business side of stuff… I just don’t have any of my day-job stuff going along
with it.

While on “Vacation,” I still need to get at least 1,000
words written a day on one project, at least 11 pages revised each day on
another, and I’ve got to make sure I get all the little things done that don’t
do

Don’t Publish a Book

Don’t Write a Book
It’s a tiresome process that will wear your fingers to
the bone. It will break your heart and screw up your mind. When you’re finished
it will leave you with a pile of words on pages crusted with the dried blood
from where they cut you. Revisions are worse. Look at that book you wrote, now
look at how everything inside it is wrong. Everything needs to be changed.
Rewrite it,

y
Susan Dennard –
On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with
a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.
In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of
magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all
too well.
Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie.
It’s a powerful magic that

How 2015 Actually Went

Reading –
57 Books

I set my
goal at Fifty books, and if we go by technicalities… I didn’t actually make it.
Nine of the books in that count are my own. I did read them, but somehow, it
feels a little like cheating.

The
longest book was Zero World by Jason M. Hough (I snagged an Arc at PHX Comicon)
and the shortest was a MoPO Short Story, Silver Linings by Pip Balantine and
Tee Morris.
